"Mario Party 8" for the Wii Trivia Quiz

The eighth "Mario Party" is a great addition to the series, especially due to the unique quality of motion-controlled minigames. This quiz contains spoilers. You do not need knowledge of any other "Mario Party" game.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Is Bowser a playable character in this game?

Answer: No

Though Bowser is not a playable character, he is still an integral part of the game. He appears whenever you land on his space, as well as playing a role in the end of the single-player game, and owning one of the boards.
2. What are the only two playable characters that are not unlocked right from the beginning?

Answer: Blooper and Hammer Bro

Both of these characters can be unlocked in the same way: simply playing through to the end of the single-player mode, "Star Battle". One of them will challenge you on the very last board.
3. In the "Star Battle" mode, what prize awaits the winner?

Answer: All of these

Initially, the prize is supposed to be a year's supply of candy. After the fifth board, however, MC Ballyhoo reveals the Star Rod as the more important achievement. Bowser of course wants it, but you use it against him in the final minigame after the final board.
4. The announcer's name is MC Ballyhoo, but what is the name of his hat?

Answer: Big Top

Both the announcer and his hat are two distinctly separate beings. However, since you normally only see the hat's eyes and the announcer's mouth, they look to share the same face. They will always greet you upon starting up the game, starting a board, and during the games.
5. Which of the following is not one of the six boards?

Answer: Buzzy Beetle's Underground Palace

The six boards are DK's Treetop Temple, Goomba's Booty Boardwalk, King Boo's Haunted Hideaway, Shy Guy's Perplex Express, Koopa's Tycoon Town, and Bowser's Warped Orbit. All of them are named after classic Mario enemies - yes, even DK was an enemy of Mario's at one time.
6. Where do you trade your Carnival Cards for extra minigames and other bonuses such as character voices?

Answer: Fun Bazaar

In the Fun Bazaar, there are five areas your character can check out: the Records Board, the Minigame Wagon, the Carnival Wagon, the Surprise Wagon, and the Carnival Calliope. Even after you've bought all the bonuses, you can still hit the Records Board to check your minigame records, and listen to music and voices at the Calliope.
7. If you've played enough Duel Battles, you should know there are three "Challenge" minigames for one player only. What are they?

Answer: Pour to Score, Stampede, Fruit Picker

In "Pour to Score", you tilt a bucket of sand onto a scale and try to aim for a specific weight. "Fruit Picker" is a simple memory game with five fruits arrayed in a circle. "Stampede" involves stamping your character's logo onto blank sheets of paper and avoiding the Bowser sheets.
8. Which of these is not a category of minigames?

Answer: 3-Vs.-3

Since only four players can play in a game, 3-Vs.-3 is strictly impossible. Duel is for two players, one vs. one. 4-Player is a free-for-all. 1-Vs.-3 is actually fairer than it may seem at first. In a Battle Royale, all the mode of minigames at the end of every turn is determined by who landed on what colour square.
9. What is the name of the baseball-themed minigame in which all players have to try to hit baseballs thrown by a Shy Guy?

Answer: Swing Kings

The Swing Kings minigame is available in Duel and 4-player. The Shy Guy will toss you and your opponents 20 balls, and you swing your Wii remote like a bat to try to hit as many of them as you can. Distance is not a factor, but be careful on your timing when the Shy Guy throws the baseballs at greatly different heights.
10. Miis (the Nintendo Wii's built-in animated avatars for players) make an appearance somewhere in "Mario Party 8".

Answer: True

In the "Extras Zone", you can play minigames that don't appear anywhere in the normal, board-related game. It contains ten minigames, and you can choose to play any one of them as either a Mii on your system (or remote), or a built-in "Mario Party 8" character.
