Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Mass Effect", there was a place called Council Space. Its political hub was the Citadel, and it was a generally civilized and peaceful place. The opposite of Citadel Space were the lawless Terminus Systems, with Omega at the centre. Who was the self-appointed and undisputed leader of Omega?

Answer: Aria T'Loak

Aria T'Loak was a ruthless asari businesswoman and crime lord. Omega did not have any official laws, but everyone respected her rules. Those that did not, did not last long on Omega. Aria even let the gangs carve out territory for themselves, and run operations. Gang and turf wars were frequent on Omega, but they mostly served to keep the groups from becoming too strong to become a threat to Aria. Aria knew everything that was happening on "her station", and was the person to talk to for information.

Matriarch Benezia was a secondary antagonist in "Mass Effect", Liara T'Soni was her daughter, and one of Shepard's squadmembers. Samara was Shepard's token asari squadmember in "Mass Effect 2".
2. On the Collector Ship, Shepard had the option of getting new weapon training, or a new weapon of a type that Shepard was already trained in. What was the name of the very deadly assault rifle that Shepard could get on the Collector Cruiser?

Answer: Revenant

Shepard could receive weapon training in assault rifles, sniper rifles, or shotguns. If Shepard already had training in one of those areas, a strong weapon in that class became available. If Shepard already had assault rifle training (Soldier class only), then Shepard could pick up the deadly M-76 Revenant assault rifle. The Revenant had a large magazine and fire rate, but low accuracy. With accuracy modifications, and Shepard's powers, it could be used to great effect.

The M-98 Widow was the sniper rifle in the Collector cruiser (available to Soldiers and Infiltrators). The M-300 Claymore was the shotgun in the Collector cruiser (available to Soldiers and Vanguards). The M-22 Eviscerator was a shotgun made available in the "Cerberus Weapon and Armor" downloadable content pack.
3. After being blown up by the Collectors and dying, Shepard was rebuilt and employed by which shadowy organization?

Answer: Cerberus

Cerberus started off as a rogue splinter group from the Human Alliance's black ops division. They were known for their fiercely pro-human stance, and xenophobia. They wanted to secure humanity's role in galactic politics, often to the detriment of the other species. They also performed brutal and unethical experiments to achieve their ends. Cerberus was well funded through a large array of business fronts and secret financial backers.

Cerberus spent an enormous amount of money to bring Shepard back to life after the rest of the galaxy had written the Commander off as dead. Cerberus then sent Shepard to investigate human colonies that were disappearing in the Terminus systems. The Citadel Council and Human Alliance were not helping because the missing colonies were outside their jurisdiction, and they did not want to start a war. Cerberus was able to use the Alliance's inaction to gain popular support, and billed themselves as protectors of all of humanity.
4. The "Mass Effect" galaxy was filled with interesting life forms and civilizations that humans could interact with. Some were similar to humans, while others were truly alien. Which alien species looked like floating jellyfish?

Answer: Hanar

Most species in the "Mass Effect" series were bipedal, and similar to humans. Some, however, were more unique. The hanar looked like floating jellyfish with eight long tentacles. They came from an oceanic planet, and were used to swimming. When they wanted to interact with other species in drier environments, they used mass effect field generators to levitate themselves.

They communicated primarily through bio-luminescence, which most species could not understand, so their adopted speech patterns were a little different than most other species.

The hanar were known for being quite religious, and worshipped the Enkindlers. The Enkindlers were actually protheans, and the hanar became upset whenever the other species wanted to study prothean artifacts, rather than just admire them. All of these differences made it difficult, sometimes, for the other species to interact productively with the hanar, but they were mostly non-violent, and most disputes were settled diplomatically.
5. There were six different playable classes in "Mass Effect 2", with each one being either a specialist in one skill area, or a hybrid of two. Which class was the biotic specialist, and known for the Singularity power?

Answer: Adept

In the "Mass Effect" games, there were three skill areas: combat, biotics, and tech. Each of the six classes was either a specialist in one, or a hybrid of two. The Adept was the biotic specialist, and had access to a massive array of biotic powers. Adepts were known for Singularity, which would cause a small point of large gravity. Enemies that were near to point would be pulled towards it, and start to orbit it. These floating, helpless enemies were then easy targets for other powers or conventional firearms.

In "Mass Effect", the hybrid classes were truly hybrids, with wide array of skills, but nothing special. In "Mass Effect 2", Bioware made each of the classes more unique, by giving each one at least one unique power.
6. Shepard got to travel all across the galaxy in "Mass Effect 2", and had the opportunity to explore many worlds. One world was the asari planet called Illium, on the border with the Terminus Systems. What as the name of the port city that the Normandy docked at?

Answer: Nos Astra

Nos Astra was a central spaceport on Illium. Illium was an asari world, still in Council space, but it was on the border of the Terminus Systems. A large amount of trade went through the port, most of it ethically grey, which allowed the city to flourish.

Port Hanshan was where the Normandy docked on the planet Noveria in "Mass Effect". Similarly, Zhu's Hope was where the Normandy set down on Feros, also in "Mass Effect". Afterlife was the name of the nightclub on Omega where Aria could be found.
7. The Normandy SR2 was an advanced spaceship, and it needed a crew to run smoothly. What was the name of the engineer who worked down by the Normandy's drive core, beside Kenneth Donnelly?

Answer: Gabriella Daniels

Engineers Gabriella Daniels and Kenneth Donnelly worked as a team, keeping the Normandy's systems balanced. They both were trained by the Alliance, and were very supportive of Shepard's warning about the Reapers. When the Alliance tried to distance themselves from Shepard, and downplay the Reapers, they left for an organization that took the Reapers seriously. The Illusive Man hired them to work about the new Normandy.

Miranda was the leader of the Lazarus Cerberus cell, and Shepard's de facto second-in-command. Joker was the Normandy's pilot, and spent most of his time in the cockpit. Rupert Gardner was the Normandy's mess officer and custodian.
8. Artificial intelligence played an important role in the "Mass Effect" story, and the distinction between an artificial intelligence and a virtual intelligence was an important one. Controversially, the new Normandy was outfitted with its own true AI. What was its name?

Answer: EDI

EDI (Ee-dee) stood for Enhanced Defense Intelligence. She was responsible for the Normandy's electronic warfare and cyber warfare systems. She could prevent enemies from infecting the Normandy's systems with a virus, or resist enemy control. She could also attempt to break through enemy firewalls, and assume control of their systems, such as artificial gravity, oxygen levels, or airlocks. She was initially shackled to prevent her from gaining too much power and becoming a threat to organic beings. During the attack on the Normandy, she was released. She was a sentient being, and considered herself a part of the crew, so the crew never had to worry about being betrayed by a rogue AI.

Avina was the Citadel's virtual guide. Mira was the VI of the Peak 15 research facility on Noveria in "Mass Effect". Glyph was Liara's VI assistant in "Mass Effect 3".
9. One of the most interesting developments in "Mass Effect 2" was the nature of the geth. Shepard even got a geth on board the Normandy. What name did this geth platform call itself?

Answer: Legion

The nature of the geth meant they had a different sense of individuality from most organic species. The geth platform Shepard recovered housed 1183 individual geth, and the idea of addressing them as a single being was foreign. To be compatible with the rest of the crew, the platform needed a single, unique name it could be addressed as. EDI offered "Legion", from the biblical verse, "My name is Legion, for we are many (Mark 5:9)."

Vigil and Hannibal were both virtual intelligences from "Mass Effect". Mouse was the name of one of Thanes' contacts on the Citadel.
10. Use the first letter of the nine previous answers to spell the codename of a character found in the "Mass Effect" universe.

Answer: Archangel

Archangel was the codename given to Garrus by the gangs and populace of Omega. After Shepard died, he made his way to Omega to stop some of its corruption, and protect the innocent beings living there. He put together his own crew, similar to Shepard's. Garrus managed to irritate Omega's three largest gangs enough to make them form a temporary alliance against him.

A traitor on his team cost the rest of them their lives. He was holed up in an apartment, alone, with all three gangs about to launch a coordinated assault, when Shepard came back and saved him. Garrus was severely wounded in the battle, but still joined Shepard's new team to help fight the Collectors.
