New to the series, liberation missions are where you lead a team of Navis and control each one in battle. The missions are attempts to "liberate" areas of the Internet that Nebula has taken over. There are nine in total, with six in the main portion of the game.

Baryl is an Official Netbattler from Netopia. He has come to Electopia to lead the team of Navis that will be freeing the Internet from Nebula. Scilab has graciously allowed him to use one of their hi-tech rooms as the team's headquarters.

Each Navi has special skills for use in liberations. The defensive Navis (Magnetman in "Team Protoman" and Knightman in "Team Colonel") protect teammates from taking damage during the Darkloid's turn. The mobile Navis (Gyroman in "Team Protoman" and Shadowman in "Team Colonel") cross over dark panels as if they were normal panels. Offence Navis (Napalmman in "Team Protoman" and Tomahawkman in "Team Colonel") can liberate large amounts of dark panels at once. Brain Navis (Searchman in "Team Protoman" and Numberman in "Team Colonel") can recover items and disable traps over a large range. Support Navis (Meddy in "Team Protoman" and Toadman in "Team Colonel") assist teammates in liberating a long string of dark panels at once.

Early on in the game, Lan's father invites Lan, Dex, Yai, and Maylu to Scilab to show them something. In Dad's lab, Lan can jack Megaman into the computer, where the BugFix H and a RegUp2 await. However, the chip is inside purple data, so you will need to come back later with an Unlocker Sub Chip later to get it.

Once completing a liberation mission for the first time, you can replay the mission to get more zennies, battle chips, and bugfrags. Near the entrance of the area that was liberated is a golden Mr. Prog, which will recreate the mission if you ask it to.

After his friends fall through the hole, Lan enters the mine and takes an old elevator to the second level. His way forward is blocked by a door with an electronic lock. Megaman must then find a Navi located in Oran Net 1 with the key.

Tesla Magnus ("Team Protoman") is mining for Magnometal to help build her corporation's products. She keeps making a big deal about how she is 29 and her stress level is causing rapid aging. Princess Pride ("Team Colonel") is also mining for Magnometal, to help with her country's technology.

The drill's computers have gone haywire, and Megaman must shut down the programs to stop the drill. However, rocks of different colors and durability ratings block his way. Dark rocks are the toughest of all rocks, and must usually be passed instead of broken, thanks to the movement of the conveyor belts.

The bonus panels can give you invincibility, hit points, order points, battle chips, or damage the closet enemy. Each mission has four available chips that bonus panels may give up. The Quake2 B chip does 150 damage. The TimeBom1 T chip does 100 damage. The Snake Z chip does 30 damage. The Navi+20 * chip does 0 damage, but instead powers up the next Navi chip used by 20 points.

Mr. Famous is a scientist that continuously appears in the "Battle Network" series, with a new Navi each time. In "Battle Network 2", he had Gateman, who used attacks based around the ancient Japanese art of Kendo. In "Battle Network 3", he had Punk, who used wheel-like attacks.

In "Battle Network 4", he had Kendoman, who attacked from behind a gate he used as a shield. In "Battle Network 5", Mr. Famous uses Gridman, who uses football-based attacks.

An old man by the entrance to the docks sells you the DarkSwrd Z chip for 500 zennies. Mr. Quiz is waiting by the vending machines, and gives you the DarkThnd M chip if you can answer all his questions correctly. These chips may be powerful, but permanently lower HP and cause other bugs as well when used.

Once Lan finishes his impromptu mission on Oran Isle, Higsby's Showcase gets a BblWrap Y chip for retail. Completing the following two liberation missions will add another new chip to the showcase for each mission completed. Django D and then NumbrBl N will become available.

Lan's next mission is to board the Queen Bohemia and stop Nebula from stealing the Booster System, a new program used to power up Navis that is being unveiled at a party onboard. Until the party starts, Lan must occupy himself, and finds out that the ship is sponsoring net battling and stamp collecting contests onboard. Since the net battling event is already full, Lan must resort to finding stamps that have been placed all around the ship.

The ship's main computer has three areas that must be navigated in order to reach the culprit. In the first area, there are two gates that each require one key to get through. The second area has one gate that requires three keys to open. The last area has one gate that requires one key to open.

Larkman is a speed-based navi with good damage ratings as well. His Lark Cutter is a swift boomerang-like projectile that can turn diagonally and must be dodged twice. His Air Dive is a lunge across an entire row that destroys any waiting battle chips you may have. His Lark Dive is another lunging attack, but this one covers a large area of the battlefield.

The castle contains many displays that show off samurai gear and traditions, some of which have items. The Katana Comp has an HPMemeory, the Armor Comp contains an HP+100 Yellow Customizer Program, the Helmet Comp contains a RegUp2, and the Windgod Comp contains an AirSpin2 B battle chip.

Answer: NebulaID

After Cosmoman falls, Nebula's influence on the Net dwindles greatly, and you can purchase the NebulaID from an agent that wants to leave the organization. This ID gets you through the online gates with a skull on them. With this item, you can now acquire an HPMemory, HP+200 Yellow Customizer Program, Magnum V Chip, AirShoes Yellow Customizer Program, and the DarkPlus * Dark Chip.

After defeating the original version of your team Navis, an upgraded alpha version appears in a set position on the Net. Beat this and a beta version appears in a set position, albeit this version is not out in the open. Beat this and the omega version becomes a random encounter enemy in the same area the beta version was in.

Although an S ranking for a buster level guarantees you get an SP chip, you can also get one with a ranking of 9 or 10.

Because of a Nebula uprising, your present headquarters at Scilab is no longer safe. Lan is instructed to find a new headquarters, which ends up being the back room at Higsby's Chip Shop. The customizer program you can get from the Mr. Prog in the PC speeds up the cleansing of Megaman's soul from dark influences if you have been using dark chips regularly.

Shortly after Megaman is freed from the dark powers, your leader Navi is taken and corrupted. Once you defeat Dark Protoman/Dark Colonel in the sixth liberation mission, your support Navi (Meddy in "Team Protoman" and Toadman in "Team Colonel") uses their special healing ability to free the team leader from the dark forces.

Although the attacks behave exactly like the dark chips, the damage they inflict is less than the actual chips. Nebula Gray's Dark Thunder does 80 damage, while Dark Sword, Dark Meteor, and Dark Lance do 100 damage each.

There are seven of these marks that you can get on the title screen; your leader Navi's face appears when you defeat Nebula Gray. If you have been a diligent player, you could have also gotten the "Dark Compl" mark for collecting all the dark chips.

In Nebula Area 6, the deepest part of the Internet, the Dark Soul Navis wait behind gates. Each gate will only open if you got an S ranking against the omega version of the team Navi whose Dark Soul version waits behind the gate.

You can use a Game Boy Advance link cable to connect "MegaMan Battle Network 5" with "Boktai 2" to play a crossover battle. Once this happens, a special chip trader (the Zoktai Trader) becomes available in Oran Area 2. You can use the points gained from crossover battles to get chips from this trader. Each secret chip (Otenko O and GunDelEX G) costs 50 points, and must be drawn from a pool of chips that are available when using 50 points.
