Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On which block can't redstone be placed?

Answer: Glass

You can separate "Minecraft" blocks into solid blocks and non-solid blocks.
The solid blocks can be separated into 2 other groups: redstone solid and non-redstone solid. A redstone solid block can have redstone on it. There is one huge exception though, which is glowstone. Redstone dust only can be placed on glowstone.
2. How many water bottles does it take to completely fill a cauldron?

Answer: Three

However, a cauldron can be instantly filled with only one bucket of water. People still consider a cauldron as a bit useless and more as decoration.
3. How many buckets of water do you need to use to create an infinite water source (assuming there is no natural water around the place where you create the infinite water source)?

Answer: Two

Making an infinite water source is one of the many things a player has to learn.

There are two ways of making an infinite water source with just two buckets of water.

1. You can make a 3x1 (height = 1) hole in the ground and fill both ends with a bucket of water. Then you can simply take water out of the middle and it will refill everytime. You cannot take water from one of the ends, because those won't refill with a water source block.

2. The best way to do it is to make a 2x2 (height = 1) hole in the ground and fill the opposite corners with water. Now you can take water from any place and it will automatically refill.
4. Which of these is the odd one out with regards to sound?

Answer: Fence

Glass, glass pane and glowstone all sound the same when breaking it (sounds like glass). Breaking a fence sounds like breaking normal wood.
5. Which of these is the odd one out with regards to shears?

Answer: Melon

Leaves can be broken faster (and you can retrieve the block) when using shears. You obtain grass when using shears. The easiest way to obtain wool includes shears. A melon has nothing to do with shears.
6. Which block has the ID "2"?

Answer: Grass Block

IDs can be important when using commands like /give [player] [item] [amount].
At [item] you need to put in the ID and therefore it can be useful to know them all by heart. 0 is air, 1 is stone, 2 is grass block, 3 is dirt, 4 is cobblestone.
7. How much coal do you need to put in a furnace if you want to smelt 21 iron ore all at once in one furnace?

Answer: Three

One coal (or charcoal) in a furnace can smelt exactly 8 items. So when smelting 21 items, you need 3 coal (and you can smelt an additional 3 items).

A bucket of lava is the best fuel because it can smelt 100 items, however you won't get the bucket back and you can't stack buckets of lava.
8. If you need to create twenty fences, how many wood logs do you need?

Answer: Eight

One wood log equals four wooden planks. Two wooden planks equals four sticks. Therefore, one wood log equals eight sticks.

Six sticks equals two fences. Therefore one wood log makes two fences plus a third of another two fences. Twenty fences require eight wood logs.
9. Imagine you can't break blocks, but there is a crafting table you can use and ALL AGGRESSIVE mobs (not passive or neutral) are being spawned everywhere. How many different solid blocks (blocks you can't walk trough) can you obtain in your inventory (without making use of creeper explosions)?

Answer: Twelve

Obtainable items:

-Cauldron, zombies drop iron ingots which can be turned into a cauldron.
-Iron door, zombies drop iron ingots which can be turned into an iron door.
-Iron block, zombies drop iron ingots which can be turned into an iron block.
-Anvil, zombies drop iron ingots which can be turned into iron blocks, iron blocks and iron ingots make an anvil.
-Wool, spiders or cave spiders drop string which can be turned into wool.
-Fence, witches drop sticks which can be turned into fences.
-Ladder, witches drop sticks which can be turned into ladders (ladders are solid blocks because you can't walk trough them).
-Glowstone, witches drop glowstone dust which can be turned into glowstone.
-Redstone lamp, witches drop glowstone dust and redstone, glowstone dust can be turned into glowstone, redstone and glowstone can be turned into redstone lamps.
-Redstone blocks, witches drop redstone which can be turned into redstone blocks.
-Coal blocks, wither skeletons drop coal which can be turned into coal blocks.
-Wither skull, wither skeletons drop wither skulls, which is considered a solid block.
10. You connect a lever to a block of TNT using 2 redstone repeaters that have maximum delay. How long does it take for the TNT to explode after hitting the lever?

Answer: 4.8 seconds

Activated TNT explodes after 4.0 seconds. A repeater with maximum delay delays 4 ticks (0.4 seconds), so it will take 4.8 seconds for the TNT to explode. TNT activated by other exploding TNT has a detonation time of less than 4 seconds.
