Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Right from the start, we find that the main character has a friend that will periodically check in on him/her. If the main character is a girl, her friend is a boy named Ethan. If your character is a boy, what is the name of the female friend?

Answer: Lyra

Lyra is the friend of the male main character in "HeartGold/SoulSilver", and she always walks with a Marill following her. Bianca is a friend of the main character in "Pokemon Black/White", May is a friend of the main character in "Ruby/Sapphire", and Dawn is a friend of the main character in "Diamond/Pearl/Platinum".
2. The Safari Zone, first introduced in "Red/Blue/Yellow", was notably absent in "Gold/Silver". However, it was included in the remakes. Where is the Safari Zone located in "HeartGold/SoulSilver"?

Answer: Beyond Cianwood City

The first location for the Safari Zone was Fuchsia City, in "Red/Blue/Yellow". It was omitted in "Gold/Silver" because there was not enough memory to include it.
3. In "Gold/Silver", Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Mewtwo could not be caught. However, all were able to be caught in the remakes. These Pokemon were found in their original locations from "Red/Blue/Yellow", with the exception of Moltres. Where can Moltres be found in "HeartGold/SoulSilver"?

Answer: Mt. Silver

Moltres was originally found in Victory Road. Articuno can be found in the Seafoam Islands, Zapdos is outside the Power Plant, and Mewtwo is in the Cerulean Cave, formerly called the Unknown Dungeon.
4. The Pokeathlon Dome is a completely new addition, unique to "HeartGold/SoulSilver" at the time of release. Pokemon there can participate in sporting events, earning points which can be redeemed for rare items. Where is the Pokeathlon Dome located?

Answer: Adjacent to the National Park

The Pokeathlon Dome is home to unique events such as relay races and endurance events. Each Pokemon has its own strengths and weaknesses when participating in the events, which can be seen by accessing the Pokemon's information.
5. The Game Corners in Goldenrod and Cerulean City were also changed in the remakes. Previously, two games could be played, slots and a card-flipping game. However, only one game can be played in the remakes. Which game is this?

Answer: Card-flipping game

The card-flipping game, known as "Voltorb Flip" is much different from games in previous game corners. The game involves mainly logic and is free to play. The previous card-flipping game involves mainly luck and some strategy.
6. The Kimono Girls play a much larger role than they did in "Gold/Silver". They appear periodically throughout the game, and then summon either Ho-oh or Lugia, depending on whether you are playing "HeartGold" or "SoulSilver". At what point during the game can you battle the Girls, and follow them to cause one of the legendaries to appear?

Answer: After obtaining badges from all eight gyms in Johto

In "Gold/Silver", the player only had to battle and defeat the Kimono Girls to obtain the Surf HM. However, after defeating all eight gyms and visiting Prof. Elm, the Kimono Girls will battle the player and then go to either the Bell Tower to summon Ho-oh, or the Whirl Islands to summon Lugia.

The Girls are much tougher to defeat than in the original games. The player can visit Ho-oh or Lugia in "Gold/Silver" after defeating Team Rocket.
7. In "Gold/Silver", the only facility of note in Fuchsia City was the gym. However, in the remakes, one major addition was included. Which facility was added?

Answer: Pal Park

Pal Park, introduced in "Diamond/Pearl/Platinum", can be used to import Pokemon from games in the third generation, "Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald" and "Fire Red/Leaf Green". To use the facility, you must insert one of these Game Boy Advance cartridges in the dual slot of the DS console.
8. After defeating all of the gym leaders in Johto and Kanto, you can contact them with your Pokegear for rematches. Once you get their phone numbers and contact them on the right day and time, where can you find them, ready to battle you?

Answer: Fighting Dojo in Saffron City

After getting all sixteen badges, you can re-match all of the gym leaders. However, you must get their phone numbers first and them contact them on the right day and at the right time. Each of the gym leaders are located at a different place on a different day and time, at which you can get their numbers. Each will have a new and tougher lineup than they did the first time you battled them.

In addition, all will have six Pokemon.
9. Which of these locations in "HeartGold/SoulSilver" was completely absent in the original games?

Answer: Battle Frontier

The Battle Tower was introduced in "Crystal", the sequel to "Gold/Silver". The Battle Tower is now just one of five facilities at the Battle Frontier. Bell Tower was originally called Tin Tower in "Gold/Silver".
10. In "Gold/Silver", the legendary Suicune could be found roaming the routes of Johto. However, Suicune could be found in a different manner in "HeartGold/SoulSilver". After being sighted in various locations in the game, where can you finally battle and catch him?

Answer: Route 25, northeast of Cerulean City

In "Gold/Silver", Suicune would roam the routes of Johto, much like Raikou and Entei. While the latter two are still roaming, you can battle Suicune much like in "Crystal", where it can't escape. Suicune was found at the Tin Tower in "Crystal".
11. In "Gold/Silver", once a legendary Pokemon was knocked out, it was gone for good, never to be battled again. However, in "HeartGold/SoulSilver", once a certain task was completed the legendaries would appear in the same location with full health. What is the task that needs to be completed to revive the legendary Pokemon?

Answer: Defeat the Elite Four and Champion in a rematch

Once the Elite Four and Champion are beaten again, the legendaries will reappear, revived, at their original locations. In order to rematch the Elite Four, the player must first obtain all 16 badges. The Elite Four and Champion will have tougher and higher-level Pokemon than they did originally, and each will carry six Pokemon. Roaming Pokemon such as Raikou and Entei, as well as Suicune, will reappear in the Burned Tower.

However, it is a good idea to save the game before battling the legendary Pokemon anyway.
12. A welcome addition to "HeartGold/SoulSilver" is the pair of Running Shoes, which are given to you shortly after you begin the game. They will hold you over until you get a bicycle. Who gives you your running shoes?

Answer: Guide Gent in Cherrygrove City

The running shoes were introduced in "Ruby/Sapphire". They are activated by pressing the B button while moving.
13. In Kanto there are many more trainers than in "Gold/Silver". Which of these areas of Kanto are trainers present (besides your rival) in "HeartGold/SoulSilver" that were not present in the original games?

Answer: Viridian Forest

Viridian Forest was included in "HeartGold/SoulSilver", with trainers having bug Pokemon. There was no separate area that was considered to be Viridian Forest in "Gold/Silver". Mt. Moon and Victory Road have only your rival, and Route 28 has no trainers at all.
14. The game's final and toughest opponent is Red at Mt. Silver. His Pokemon are all incredibly high-leveled, including a Pikachu that set a record for the highest-ever level out of any opponent's Pokemon. What level is this Pikachu?

Answer: Level 88

Despite being level 88, Pikachu's defense is so low that one powerful physical attack could knock it out. A good strategy is to lead off with a quick Pokemon that can use Earthquake, which Pikachu is especially vulnerable to. Red's other Pokemon, Lapras, Blastoise, Venusaur, Charizard, and Snorlax all have levels in the '80s.
15. After defeating Red at Mt. Silver, you can visit Prof. Oak, and he will give you something special. What can you obtain?

Answer: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle

You can obtain any one of the three starters from "Red/Blue/Yellow" after defeating Red at Mt. Silver. You can also obtain any of the three starters from "Ruby/Sapphire" at the Silph Co. building in Saffron City. The Sevii Islands from "Fire Red/Leaf Green" are not featured in "HeartGold/SoulSilver".
