Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the first Crystal Star?

Answer: Diamond Star

The Diamond Star is found inside Hooktail Castle. The special move that comes with it is called Earth Tremor, and none of the Crystal Stars are peridot, aquamarine or lapis-lazuli. However, the final Crystal Star's image on the map does not resemble the actual star so much that I mistook the gem for lapis-lazuli at first.
2. What special move is unlocked after finding the second Crystal Star, the Emerald Star?

Answer: Clock Out

Clock Out costs two units of Star Power, and is used to immobilize enemies as if they were literally clocked out. Art Attack costs four units of Star Power, and is very flexible as you get a decent amount of time to do as much damage as possible to the enemies you want. Supernova is very simple - just tap A rapidly to do as much as 15 damage to ALL enemies.

Unfortunately, it costs a whopping six units of Star Power. You get Special Moves from all Crystal Stars, and are given a simple Special Move on your first trip to the Thousand-Year Door.
3. Does the Gold Star give you the Special Move known as Power Boost?

Answer: No

It's actually called Power Lift. It creates a little lift in attack and defense power.
4. After defeating Mr. Five Question Marks (I know that isn't his name, but you know what I mean) in Chapter 4, do you simply get the Ruby Star?

Answer: No, your body and identity are stolen, and you must get them back

I was stumped when you first defeated him. You left, but the camera just wouldn't come off the shadow he turned into. Move the Control Stick to find that Mr. Five Question Marks stole your body and left you with just your shadow. Your partners are none the wiser, and you must get a new one to beat the chapter.

The body thief's real name is Doopliss. But the letter "p" is somehow stolen from your vocabulary, so you must find the letter "p" to complete the chapter.
5. What is the name of the fifth Crystal Star?

Answer: Sapphire Star

The Sapphire Star gives you the Special Move Sweet Feast. This is more effective than Sweet Treat, hence the names. Turquoise and pearl aren't gems that any of the Crystal Stars are made of, and as for the Garnet Star... check Question 6 for details. :P
6. What does the Special Move from the sixth Crystal Star do?

Answer: Gives you a chance to instantly defeat minor enemies

The sixth Crystal Star is the Garnet Star, and the Special Move it provides is called Showstopper. This is an easy move to pull off, and the more you manage to get right, the higher your chance to defeat enemies. Low-level enemies will always succumb to a perfect six rounds, but some higher-level enemies may not be affected even by a perfectly executed Showstopper. You have a zero percent chance of even scaring bosses with this, from the mini bosses to the big ones, so don't waste your two units of Star Power. If there was any chance of you succeeding with this, that would make chapters seven and eight too easy, wouldn't it?
7. Where do you find the final Crystal Star?

Answer: The Moon

Yes, the final Crystal Star, strangely enough "the" Crystal Star is on the Moon at the X-Naut base. The X-Nauts had it, so you had to get it off of them. They found it in Rogueport and you found the Garnet Star in Poshley Heights.
8. Does Mario have a total of seven Special Moves by the time that he has obtained all of the Crystal Stars?

Answer: No

He actually has eight. Note that Mario has Sweet Treat available for use quite early in the game.
9. In Chapter 6, the Shadow Sirens steal the Garnet Star. What is it really?

Answer: A red herring

They steal the red herring in the first room of Poshley Sanctum. You must find a way to get to another "mini-world" to find the real one. Gotta love those plot twists... :)
10. In the Pit of 100 Trials, which of these Crystal Stars form the best strategy to get through the pit without much trouble?

Answer: Emerald Star

Since the Crystal Star and the Ruby Star give Special Moves revolving around raw attack power, and they cost a lot of Star Power, these aren't the Special Moves you could keep up for long. However, the Emerald Star's Clock Out immobilizes most enemies for only two units of Star Power, so it is very easy to keep up. Plus, since you won't be taking much damage, you don't need to heal much to be ready for Bonetail on Level 100 of the pit. I suggest being roughly Level 35 at the least, and you should have no less than eight units of Star Power so you have enough to keep up with your Clock Outs.

But even like this, the Pit of 100 Trials is still tough, so you'll find yourself using Clock Out from levels 60-99 abundantly.
