Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To reach the next destination heading out of Toad Town, Mario must ride which of these?

Answer: Train

Heading to the southernmost end of Toad Town, you'll find the railroad which chugs along to the southeast area of the Mushroom Kingdom. There's a problem though- the railroad is blocked by a massive boulder brought down by the earthquake. To destroy it, simply point it out to Bombette and blast it to smithereens.

It's free to ride the train. Avid "Mario" players may recognize this locomotive from the tracks in "Mario Kart 64".
2. What party member joins Mario in Mt. Rugged?

Answer: Parakarry

Parakarry, the Paratroopa mailman of the Mushroom Kingdom, has come across Mt. Rugged in his travels but there's a problem. When Mario comes across him near the train station, Parakarry has lost some mail. Before Parakarry officially joins the group, Mario needs to locate all of the lost letters along the mountain. With Parakarry by Mario's side, pressing C-down allows him to lift Mario and carry him over small gaps.

In battle, Parakarry can use Sky Dive and Shell Shot right off the bat.
3. How many letters must Mario find on Mt. Rugged?

Answer: Three

In the search, Mario must find three letters for Parakarry on Mt. Rugged's slopes. Once they're collected, Parakarry will join the group, but the neat perk is that you'll have the opportunity to deliver said letters. If Parakarry is your active party member, he can continue to do his job as you cross the Mushroom Kingdom. What this means is that if more letters are found throughout the world, you can return them, occasionally for a prize. Delivering all of the letters in the game will result in the Lucky Day badge.
4. Buzzar is a boss found on Mt. Rugged. Who can you claim to be in order to prevent fighting him?

Answer: Luigi

When you pass by Buzzar's roost on Mt. Rugged, he'll swoop down to ask who you are. Having been asked by Bowser to keep an eye out for Mario, you'll be given three choices: 'Mario', 'Luigi', or 'Princess Peach'. Really, only Luigi will be the correct answer to give if you want to flee as he's looking out for Mario himself and because Princess Peach should be locked up in the castle.

The fight with Buzzar isn't too difficult unless you get carried away. Buzzar can throw his feathers for a quick attack, he can blow you and your partner out of the air (leaving your partner temporarily incapacitated), and he can lift you into the air and drop you. If you beat Buzzar, he disappears from the game, but you can go on answering the Luigi answer indefinitely and never actually fight this one.
5. Whose encampment is found in Dry Dry Desert?

Answer: Kolorado

Professor Kolorado is a character much idolized by Kooper, a party member acquired in Chapter 1. The first time you come across Kolorado is in the Dry Dry desert as he has a tent and group of people looking for Dry Dry Ruins, the second dungeon of the game. Professor Kolorado should also be one of the recipients of the letters found on Mt. Rugged, so Parakarry has the opportunity to perform his duty to receive a Star Piece.

After leaving Dry Dry Ruins, Mario can hand over an Artifact found inside to Kolorado. We'll see more of him in later chapters...
6. By what name is Moustafa known in Dry Dry Outpost?

Answer: Sheek

Sheek is first met on the far side of Dry Dry Outpost and eventually, Mario will come to learn that his favourite treat is Lemon. To come into possession of one of these, Mario can find a desert oasis by heading south from the entrance to Dry Dry Outpost (there are also Limes there). Handing one of these over to Sheek, Mario will be told to purchase a Dried Shroom and then a Dusty Hammer from the town shop and he will come to learn that Sheek is, in fact, Moustafa, who he had originally come to meet. Moustafa will hand over a Pulse Stone in order to get into the Ruins when Mario speaks to him in his house atop the bazaar.
7. Which of these is found in a chest in Dry Dry Ruins?

Answer: Hammer

As Mario progresses through Dry Dry Ruins, it is apparent that the puzzles and fights must lead somewhere. The first matter to contend with is the Super Hammer found in a chest deep in a large room. This Hammer can break down stone blocks throughout the game and it boosts Mario's attack power.

After this, Mario needs to collect a Pyramid Stone, a Diamond Stone, and a Crescent Stone to place in different pedestals to access the boss chamber of the dungeon.
8. Tutankoopa, the boss of Dry Dry Ruins, keeps which of these as his pets?

Answer: Chain Chomps

Reaching the final chamber of Dry Dry Ruins, Mario will come face-to-face with Tutankoopa, obviously a reference to Ancient Egypt. This boss, while magical in many ways, uses Chain Chomps during battle (and many of these can be seen throughout the Ruins).

Although Tutankoopa makes himself seem daunting by shouting through the Ruins when Mario accomplishes something that makes him unhappy, he's not that difficult for players who have been leveling up. A single attack, the ability to summon Chomps, and a magic spell that hurts you and your partner are all you need to worry about.

After the battle, Tutankoopa will be chased out of the room by his own Chomp.
9. What is the name of the Star Spirit received after Mario defeats Tutankoopa?

Answer: Mamar

Mamar is the second of seven Star Spirits found within the game. Like Eldstar (found in the Koopa Bros. Fortress) she gives Mario a special Star Power to be used in battle as well as another bar of Star Power on his meter. Her special skill, 'Lullaby', has the same capabilities as the Sleepy Sheep item Mario can find throughout his quests (or buy in certain shops). Lullaby will not always work in every single battle- it's actually quite unreliable in retrospect. Nonetheless, weaker enemies will pass into dreamland quite quickly if used.
10. By this point in the journey, you've surely gone through a portion of the Toad Town Sewers. After defeating Tutankoopa, how many blue pipes can you access?

Answer: Three

The Toad Town Sewers can be found south of Tayce T.'s house in Toad Town if you descend through the green pipe. After the completion of every chapter, this area of the game will open up new and exciting portions for you to explore. You may have visited this area after Chapter 1 and fought Blooper.

This time around, Electro Blooper is available to fight and he guards three blue pipes. These pipes lead to Goomba Village, Koopa Village, and Dry Dry Outpost respectively. This means that traveling through the Mushroom Kingdom can be a breeze- especially if you're delivering mail or running a Koopa Koot errand. Princess Peach and Twink, meanwhile, discover that the next boss guarding a Star Spirit may very well be 'invincible'. We'll see about that...
