Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After creating a new save file, who is the first major character (of these) seen in the game?

Answer: Luigi

Although Parakerry is the first character of the story to appear, he delivers a letter to the Mario house and Luigi is the one to check the mailbox for it. Giving the letter to Mario, they discover that Princess Peach has invited them to her castle for a party.

The duo decides to head directly to the castle to attend and when they arrive, they discover that people from all across the Mushroom Kingdom are attending. Mario is informed that Princess Peach is at the top of the castle and he can meet her there when he is ready.
2. Bowser appears at Princess Peach's Castle for a fight. What item does he have in his possession?

Answer: Star Rod

When Mario reaches the top floor of the castle he comes across Princess Peach. The two barely have a moment of peace before the ground begins to quake and the castle is lifted into the sky by Bowser's Lair. Bowser breaks through the window before commencing a fight with Mario. Though the two of them simply trade blows for a bit, Bowser unleashes the power of the Star Rod to make himself invincible and he knocks Mario out of castle after breathing fire at him and depleting his health. Mario is tossed out the castle window and Bowser takes off with the Princess in his clutches.
3. How many Star Spirits appear when Mario is unconscious after falling out of Peach's Castle?

Answer: Seven

Fluttering to the ground, the title card for the game appears on a scrap of paper. Mario soon hits the ground (but doesn't feel any pain for it- he is paper. While Mario is still unconscious, he is visited by the ghostly apparitions of seven Star Spirits who use their last ounces of power to energize Mario and help him begin his quest.

He is soon found by a friendly Goomba passing through the woods near their house.
4. Eldstar is responsible for waking Mario in what location to tell him his objective?

Answer: The inn

Mario is taken to a nearby inn to recover. Said inn, in a small village occupied by a single Toad and a family of Goombas, is a single room and before Mario awakens he is visited by the apparition of Eldstar, one of the seven Star Spirits who tells him to make his way to the Shooting Star Summit to begin his quest.

After Mario awakens, he can speak with the people in this small village, make his first game save, or shake some bushes around to find hidden coins.
5. Which Goomba is responsible for destroying the veranda on the back of the Goomba house?

Answer: Goompa

Mario can't head out from Goomba Village so quickly though. The garden gate out of town is jammed because of the earthquake at Princess Peach's Castle and to fix it Mario needs to bring Goompapa a hammer. It turns out that the hammer was last seen in Goompa's possession while he was working on the veranda behind the Goomba family house.

When Mario checks out back for him, it turns out that the veranda had broken clean off the house and fallen down a cliff. Mario figures this out too late and suffers the same fate. luckily, since he's made of paper, he just floats down calmly.
6. Where does Mario find the hammer?

Answer: Behind a bush

With Goompa in tow, Mario goes searching for the hammer he needs to move along in his quest as it had been lost when the veranda was destroyed. Heading into a clearing, Mario can search the bushes on the ground for one containing the all-important hammer weapon which can be used in and out of battle.

The first hammer of the game (found here) can be used to break any yellow blocks found throughout the Mushroom Kingdom. Although the Goomba family owned this hammer, they give it to Mario for free. You can use it right off the bat on the trees and blocks in the clearing to uncover a Princess Peach doll.
7. Other than Bowser, who is the first enemy Mario fights in the game?

Answer: Jr. Troopa

As soon as Mario decides to exit the forest clearing with his brand-new hammer, Jr. Troopa will appear for a fight. Goompa explains that Jr. Troopa is the leader of a local gang before you go into battle. Jr. Troopa is hardly a big deal. Unless you screw something up majorly, Jr. Troopa will be felled in about five hits before he scurries off.

Unfortunately, this will not be the only time Jr. Troopa makes an appearance in the game- every time he returns (which is often) he will have a different upgrade designed to throw Mario for a loop.
8. Who permanently joins Mario's party in this part of the game?

Answer: Goombario

Goombario, the eldest sibling of the Goomba family, is a big Mario fan. When Mario and Goompa arrive in Goomba Village with the hammer, Goombario is elated to learn that he shall be accompanying the mustached man on his journey through the Mushroom Kingdom to Toad Town and beyond. Goombario is quite the informative Goomba.

While he always comments on his muscles and strengths, pressing C-down outside of battle will result in Goombario making a comment about the environment. Off the bat, Goombario will use Headbonk and Tattle in fights, neither of which utilize FP.
9. Along with the Goomba King, Mario must fight which two henchmen on his way to Toad Town?

Answer: Red and Blue Goomba

Coming to the end of the road to Toad Town, Mario and Goombario will come across two enemies, the Red and Blue Goombas, who will attack at once to prevent Mario's success. Upon beating these two, Mario will discover a castle in his path occupied by none other than the Goomba King.

This battle won't take too long. Having already weakened the Red and Blue Goombas, Mario can make quick work of them by striking a Goomnut Tree in battle causing a Goomnut to damage all three opponents. After the battle, Mario can continue onwards across a bridge to Toad Town. Kammy Koopa, watching from afar, will rely the result of this battle to Bowser so that he can prepare forces across the Kingdom.
10. Shooting Star Summit is found where Princess Peach's Castle once stood.

Answer: True

To reach Shooting Star Summit, Mario simply needs to head north through Toad Town through the gate near Merlon's house. Heading here, the Castle will be no more- a single Toad searches through the wreckage here. As you progress through the area where the Castle once stood, you'll find that it has many stars and the sky and environment will be as dark as twilight.

When Mario ascends to the top of the summit, he'll speak with the apparitions of the missing Star Spirits who will send him on his way for the quest to follow. Princess Peach, meanwhile, is trapped in the castle in the sky.

A Star Kid (named Twink) visits her in her room to help and she gives him a Lucky Star to give to Mario.
