The guilty party was Manfred von Karma, but Yanni Yogi, who was the defendant, pleaded temporary insanity and got off with the case. The other reason was because she didn't want to fight with Maya over who would control their clan, since family fighting has shown up in the family records over the past few decades.

Mia was hit in the back of the head with a heavy object and died because of it. Maya, her sister, was set up and Phoenix defended her.
