Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What very rare non-legendary Pokémon can only be found on the route that is home to the Weather Institute and several hard-to-find Secret Bases?

Answer: Feebas

Feebas is in fact one of the rarest non-legendary Pokémon in the game. It is found while fishing on Route 119 with a Super Rod, but its appearance is sporadic and unpredictable.
2. In "Pokémon Emerald", the Contest Halls previously located in Verdanturf Town, Fallarbor Town, and Slateport City were replaced with what facility?

Answer: Battle Tent

In "Emerald", the Contest Hall in Lilycove City became the only one in the region, hosting all four Contest levels. Each Battle Tent has slightly different rules.
3. In what location(s) can the player procure a Master Ball?

Answer: Lilycove Department Store and Aqua/Magma Hideout

The Department Store in Lilycove City holds a lottery drawing every day. If the drawn number is identical to the ID number of one or more of the player's Pokémon, the player wins a Master Ball. There is also a Master Ball hidden alongside a Nugget and two Electrode in Team Aqua's hideout ("Sapphire" and "Emerald") or Team Magma's hideout ("Ruby").
4. The Petalburg City Gym Leader, Norman (who is also the player's father) owns three Pokémon. Two of them have the ability Truant. What is the third Pokémon?

Answer: Vigoroth

Norman owns a Slaking, a Vigoroth, and another Slaking, all of which are evolved forms of Slakoth. Slakoth also has the ability Truant, which causes the Pokémon to only attack once every other turn. Vigoroth's ability is Vital Spirit, which means it can never be put to sleep.
5. While the player is conversing with Norman in Petalburg City, an aspiring Pokémon Trainer named Wally interrupts and asks for help catching his own Pokémon. To help Wally, what Pokémon does Norman temporarily lend Wally?

Answer: Zigzagoon

After lending Wally a Zigzagoon, Norman asks the player to accompany Wally and help him if need be. Wally then proceeds to Route 102 and captures a Ralts, which becomes his prized partner and eventually evolves into a Gardevoir.
6. On Route 111, just north of Mauville City, there is a house near a little pond. This house is the home of the Winstrate family. How many family members actually reside in the house during the game?

Answer: Four

There are actually five members of the Winstrate family total. The father, mother, daughter, and grandmother live in the house and battle the player consecutively when challenged. The fifth Winstrate is revealed in the anime to be named Vito, and there is a Trainer named Vito in the games on Victory Road who comments on being better at battling than the rest of his family.

However, it is never proven in the games that he is the Winstrate son.
7. If the player talks to a certain man looking out of a window in Pacifidlog Town, the man will say that he either can or cannot see Mirage Island. The appearance of Mirage Island is extremely unlikely, but if it appears, there is a certain Berry that can be found on the island. What is this Berry?

Answer: Liechi Berry

Mirage Island is the only place in Hoenn where a Liechi Berry can be found. When blended in the Berry Blender(s) in Contest Halls, they will produce high-level Gold Pokéblocks. Kelpsy, Bluk, and Watmel Berries are found elsewhere and have no use except as Pokéblock ingredients.
8. In "Ruby" and "Sapphire", the Pokémon Champion is Steven Stone. How many Steel-type Pokémon does he use in battle against the player?

Answer: Three

Steven uses six Pokémon: Skarmory, Cradily, Armaldo, Claydol, Metagross, and Aggron. Of these, only Skarmory, Metagross, and Aggron are part Steel-type. Claydol is Ground/Psychic, Armaldo is Bug/Rock, and Cradily is Grass/Rock.
9. In "Ruby" and "Sapphire", which of these moves is NOT required to find and capture Regirock, Regice, and/or Registeel?

Answer: Flash

Dig is required to open one of the walls inside the Secret Chamber on Route 134. To find Regirock, the player must use Strength at a specific location inside the Desert Ruins. Similarly, the player must use Fly in a particular spot within the Ancient Tomb to find Registeel. The requirements in "Emerald" are different; in this game, the use of Flash is required.
10. The resident Pokémon Professor of Hoenn is named Professor Birch, who lives in Littleroot Town with the player. Where in Littleroot Town does he live?

Answer: It depends on the player's gender

The male character always lives in the house on the left, while the female character always lives in the house on the right. The other house has a sign outside that identifies it as Professor Birch's residence.
