Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who designed this game?

Answer: Daryl Gates

After "Police Quest 3", Jim Walls left Sierra. Sierra wanted the "Police Quest" series to continue, so they hired another former police officer to take his place. That Police Officer's name was Daryl Gates. That is probably why this game is completely different from the ones that preceded it.

It is called "Police Quest 4", but it is not a true sequel to "Police Quest 3" due to the fact that none of the characters from the previous three games appear in this game nor does this game take place in the same place.
2. Where does this game take place?

Answer: Los Angeles

"Police Quest 4" takes place in the real California city of Los Angeles rather than the fictional California town of Lytton. This is probably because Daryl Gates was the chief officer of the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department).
3. Who is the main character of this game?

Answer: John Carey

A different designer meant different characters. Instead of playing as Officer Sonny Bonds, you are now playing as detective John Carey. It's possible that if Jim Walls had stayed with Sierra and continued making "Police Quest" games, there may eventually have been one where you play as Marie. As it is, that doesn't happen.
4. Although the person usually credited for designing this game is a man, much of the work on this game was done by a woman. Who is the lady that did this work?

Answer: Tammy Dargan

Tammy Dargan is credited as the director, producer, designer, and writer of this game. Hence, even though Daryl Gates is usually credited is the one who made this game, it is possible that that this is truly Tammy Dargan's game. She is credited as the sole designer of the last two SWAT games, after Daryl Gates left the picture.

If you answered Jane Jensen, it was "Police Quest 3" that she co-designed, not "Police Quest 4".

Some of the greatest games of all time have been designed by women. In fact, I would say the three wrong answers to this question are the three greatest adventure game designers of all time, or at least in Lori's case the three greatest designers of games with adventure game elements. However, Tammy Dargan doesn't help my argument. Her games are unpopular among fans of the first three "Police Quest" games, and with good reason.
5. Who gets murdered at the start of this game?

Answer: Bob Hickman

The victim of the first known murder of the game is John Carey's former partner and best friend, Bob Hickman. The game begins in an alley in Los Angeles at the scene of the crime.
6. Who else is found murdered at the beginning of the game?

Answer: Bobby Washington

In the alley where Hickman is found dead, Carey also founds a body of a young boy in a dumpster with many bullet wounds. This boy is soon identified as Bobby Washington. His family is soon notified
7. Are the two murders in the alley related?

Answer: No

The only thing the murders of Hickman and Washington have in common is that their bodies were found in the same place. Beyond that it becomes clear that their murders are unrelated. Washington's bodies has bullet wounds all over it. Hickman has no bullet wounds. He has different kinds of wounds on his body and unlike Washington, Hickman has a rare substance in his body.
8. What is found near the first adult victim's body?

Answer: Cigarette

Hickman has a bunch of cigarette burns on his body and there is a cigarette near him. The cigarette wasn't actually the cause of death. It seems the killer enjoys seeing his victims suffer before they die.
9. What was found on the wall of the building near the dumpster?

Answer: Gang graffiti

There are many gangs in Los Angeles (this is probably true in real life as well as in the game). One gang in particular has left an image of their logo on the wall of a building near the dumpster where Washington's body is found.
10. What is found on the first adult victim's eyes?

Answer: Glue

Hickman's eyes were glued shut before he died. The killer always glued something shut when he killed someone.
11. Who is the SID criminologist?

Answer: Julie Chester

Julie Chester resides at the bottom of the police station. Carey must give evidence to her and speak with her at the beginning of each day to learn what she found out. Carey can also touch her breasts. If he does this five times, the game ends. Unfortunately, the game does not actually show Carey touching any woman's breasts, you only know it happens by the reaction of the woman. I do not know if touching any other woman's breasts ends the game.
12. Who is the receptionist at the morgue?

Answer: Sherry Moore

Every time you enter the morgue, the narrator says "entering the morgue always gives you a sense of anticipation"(this game is truly over-narrated). This is followed by a little bit of theme music and then a middle-aged woman named Sherry Moore waving and saying "Hi detective Carey." You must say "hi" to her every time because she likes conversation and she makes Carey show her his badge every time even though she knows him.

She is known to flirt with men.
13. Who is the coroner?

Answer: Sam Nobles

Carey must speak with Sam many times throughout the game. He has a lot of information that will prove useful to him on his investigation.
14. Who is Carey's partner for this investigation?

Answer: Hal Bottoms

Carey is "damn lucky" to have Hal Bottoms as a partner, or at least that's what he wants you to believe. Carey is "damn lucky" about a lot of things according to Hal.
15. What does Carey learn from the first adult victim's daughter?

Answer: He or she had been taking drugs

Valerie does Carey that her father always took pills home, which he kept in the closet. Carey found those pills and began to wonder if Hickman had overdosed. In reality, it's pretty clear that the pills had nothing to do with his death.
