Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What do you learn from the books in the thieves' guild?

Answer: Disarming traps

Disarming traps is very easy in "Quest For Glory 4". It's A LOT harder in "Quest For Glory 5".

You also learn some new thief marks, but by this point you've already seen all the thief marks you're going to see. You can also learn thief marks in the hero journal that came with the game.
2. Where is the thieves' guild?

Answer: In the Adventurers' Guild

There's a square above the bookcase in the adventurer's guild. That is the entrance to the thieves' guild. If you click on the square, John Rhys-Davies will say something that hints that it's a secret passage no matter your character class. However, only if you have thief skills will you be able to do anything with it.
3. How do you get in the thieves' guild?

Answer: Turn the coat hooks a certain way

If you're a thief and you practice climbing in the adventurer's guild, the hero will notice a thief mark telling him to look under the desk. Looking under the desk will tell you how to turn the coat hooks.
4. What does this game have that no other "Quest For Glory" game has?

Answer: Thief marks

You can read about the thief marks in the book that game with the game (this is the only "Quest For Glory" game that came with documentation other than the manual). The hero reads about them in the thieves' guild after seeing a few marks in the adventurer's guild and one in the cave.

The other choices also appear, or only appear, in "Quest For Glory 5".
5. The first thing you can do in the thieves' guild is look at a poster. What's significant about the poster?

Answer: It has a keycard

Attached to the poster is a keycard that you can use to explore more of the thieves' guild. The game never tells you who the poster is of, but it's clearly not the chief thief.
6. What is the name of the safe?

Answer: Filch

For me, between the coat hooks and this safe, the thieves' guild was the hardest part of all of "Quest For Glory 4." There was nothing the other character classes had to deal with that gave me as much challenge as the thieves' guild.

For this puzzle, you have to spell out the word "Filch." Of course, if you've played this game as a thief, you know that's not as easy as it sounds. Some of the letters are missing from the safe. You have to turn the dial in between letter at times. For example, if there's no "F," you have to turn the dial between the "E" and the "G." The letters that are and aren't there vary each time you play the game as a thief. Even with all the hints John Rhys-Davies gives you, I couldn't do this without help from the internet.
7. Where is the dial for the large safe?

Answer: Under a grate

The hero is somehow able to stick his hand through a grate and get this dial. There are also hints for where this dial is, but you are likely to find the dial before you find the hints.
8. What is in the big safe?

Answer: 5 daggers and a lock pick

The big safe (the Filch safe) has already been mostly robbed by thieves who have cracked it before. But you do get the only lock pick you will ever have in this game, and without a lock pick it's kind of hard to be a thief.

The Healing potion and the Poison Cure Pill are in the smaller traps.
9. Aside from the hero, how many members does the thieves guild have?

Answer: One

When the hero first finds the thieves' guild, it appears to be deserted. That's not surprising. The adventurer's guild is deserted and the thieves' guild is in the adventurer's guild. However, as you start cracking all the traps and finding all of the secrets, you will find a secret passage. Behind that secret passage is a poisonous cockroach who is also the Chief Thief.

The Chief Thief is the only thief remaining, because the swamp has prevented any new thieves from getting in Mordavia, and all thieves stuck their necks out too far and got themselves killed.
10. What happened to the Chief Thief?

Answer: He got turned into an insect

The chief thief broke into the monastery. He found the secret passage to the basement, and he tried to steal a small statue. When he touched the statue, in turned him into a poisonous cockroach. This, along with the swamp, is one of the main reasons the thieves guild fell apart. The remaining members of the guild either mocked him (and he killed them), or they left the guild because they were uncomfortable around him.

If YOU touch the statue, you turn into a banana slug and choke to death on your on slime. If it's any consolation though, this is the funniest death and death message in the game.
11. When you help the Chief, how does he reward you?

Answer: He tells you about the secret passage to the castle

The chief thief is the most useless character in the game. You set him free from behind the wall, then you help him finally return his human form. What does he give you in return? Nothing that you can't get elsewhere. Other characters in the game can tell you about the secret passage to the castle. Anyway, you probably already knew about the secret passage before you even met the Chief Thief, because your first ever playthrough of any "Quest For Glory" game shouldn't be as a thief. The Chief Thief should give you something no other character can give you. But he doesn't. Maybe he can't, but then he is a thief so he doesn't like helping people very much.

He'll tell you the places you can and can't steal from even before you help him. He CAN'T fence anything and he doesn't even know about the rituals.
12. How many characters in this game do you get points for making the thief sign to?

Answer: None

As far as solving puzzles and learning about thief stuff, the thief sign is completely useless in this game. The only person who will recognize it is the chief, and you have to be in the thieves' guild to meet him so by the time you meet him, it'll be obvious that you're a thief, and he'll say such (although interestingly, in "Quest For Glory 5", if you make the thief sign to Arestes in the guild and not the Dead Parrot, he'll say something similar but you'll still get points).

The only purpose the thief sign has in this game is for jokes. Show it around to certain characters, particularly Dr. Cranium and the Rusalka, and you'll get some funny messages.
13. How many break-ins in this game are unique to the thief?

Answer: None

The wizard can do all the break-ins the thief can do (The "Open" spell will do the trick) and any character class can break into Nikolai's house. Worse yet, the thieves guild can't fence anything, and you don't really need the loose cash because if you searched all the bodies in the cave at the beginning of the game, you'll have all the cash you need for the entire game.

I LOVE "Quest For Glory 4", but it and "Quest For Glory 3" may be disappointing games for those who love playing as a thief.
14. All character classes need to help the gypsy and Igor. However, the thief is the only character class who gets points for setting the gypsy free from jail before helping Igor.

Answer: True

It is much more convenient to go straight to the graveyard and free Igor. Most character classes can do this and still get the full 500 points. Not the thief. If you're a thief and you want the full 500 points, you have to wait until night on day 5, break into the Burgomeister's house, free the gypsy, and THEN free Igor.

It's annoying because it slows down gameplay by a day, but that's what you're expected to do.
15. In the cave, there is one chamber where the thief can get killed, but no other character class can get killed. Which chamber is this?

Answer: Bone

After reading the bone ritual, a set of bones will grow and surround you. The non-thieves, are smart duck so that the bones don't penetrate and kill you. The thief, however, need to use his acrobatics to get out of the cage before it closes. If you don't act in time, the bones will kill you.

It's a timed thing, and it can catch you by surprise the first time you play this game as a thief, especially if it's not your first time playing this game overall.
