Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you're really eager to fight Goblins, there's only one place you should go.

Answer: True

While Goblins do appear randomly out in the forest, you're about as likely to run into other kinds of monsters instead. However, the goblins have an area west of town where they've set up an ambush. You can go there every day to fight them, and they will increase in numbers every time you do.

It's great for training up your fighting skills, and you'll get lots of money from the goblins' dead corpses! They never learn!
2. The forest is a dangerous place to wander, especially when night falls. There are only a few places where one can sleep safely. Of the following choices, which is the LEAST safe place?

Answer: Outside the Healer's hut

If you're going to sleep anywhere near the castle, it had better be inside. Sleep outside and you'll get eaten during the night. The town streets aren't safe either, you'll get mugged but at least you'll stay alive. Sleep is very important in this game, and you'll want to sleep at least every other night, although you'll have many situations where you'll want to sleep every night to keep your health levels up.

The best place to sleep is at Erana's Peace. It's free, and it will restore your character to full health. Also, in the morning you can pick up a fruit for later. However, Erana's Peace is rather remote, and you might have to make it back there before sundown, or face the terrible creatures of the night on the way!
3. Which of these creatures never appears in the forest during the day?

Answer: Troll

For the first part of the game, you'll be advised not to travel around at night, to avoid meeting some of the nastier creatures. However, when you reach a certain level of experience, some will appear around-the-clock.

Trolls aren't really as tough as you may think, but they're pretty dangerous regardless. Their beards are also worth quite a bit because they're useful for making health potions. Make sure you collect them and give them to the healer.
4. What will you see if you visit the Ring of Mushrooms at night?

Answer: Fairies

The fairies will guard the magic ring with great zeal, and will kill you if you step inside. If you have enough agility you can dance for them, and be rewarded with fairy dust - a powerful magical ingredient.
5. Erana's Peace, a beautiful meadow at the north edge of the valley, hides some very valuable treasure. What kind of treasure is it?

Answer: A Magic Spell

Erana's Peace is a beautiful area, and also has beautiful music to accompany it. As mentioned earlier, you can get a great night's sleep here, and just one fruit from the tree in the center will keep you fed for a whole day. The flowers growing here are also valuable, and the healer will pay well for a bunch.

Most importantly, there is a magical spell scroll hidden in the garden. You'll have to use your magical skills (if you have any) to find and retrieve that scroll. If you manage to do so, you will learn the "Calm" spell, which enables you to avoid combat more easily. A great thing to have for magic-users, who are normally not very combat-worthy...
6. What is the name of the Brigand who loiters outside the town gate?

Answer: Bruno

The brigands have a strong presence in the valley. They didn't use to be much of a bother, until some time ago a Brigand Leader appeared who organized them into a strong fighting unit. They also have a mysterious warlock, and their fortress is extremely well defended.
7. There's an ogress witch living in the valley of Spielburg, named Baba Yaga. Her hut is located in the Northwestern corner of the woods. Aside from getting her fence door to open, you'll have to find some way to get into the hut itself. What is the proper verse you need to recite?

Answer: Hut of Brown, now sit down!

Baba Yaga's hut stands on two chicken legs. To get inside, you'll have to get the hut to sit down on the ground first. Just watch out not to be standing UNDERNEATH the hut as it sits down!
8. Some creatures have valuable "parts" that can be sold for money. Only one of the following creature parts can be collected - which one is it?

Answer: Troll's Beard

Troll's Beard is very valuable. Give it to the healer and be rewarded with two health potions, which are worth 4 gold pieces each. You can't sell them, but you'll definitely find a use for them.

Also, while there are no Cheetaur's Feet in the game, you can collect Cheetaur's Claws which are worth 5 silver pieces each. An average Cheetaur will have about three or four of these. Of course, they are very tough opponents...
9. Your stamina is running low. Which potion will you drink?

Answer: Vigor Potion

Vigor potions restore stamina (the others don't exist in the game). They are the cheapest potions, but they'll restore all your stamina, which can be very important during combat - every combat action costs stamina, and if you run out of points you'll start losing Health instead!

If you're not in combat, you could try resting. While resting does pass time (you might wake up in the middle of the night, in the middle of the forest...), it's certainly is cheaper than potions. In any case, try not to run out of stamina points, as it can get you killed really quickly.
10. The magic mirror that Erasmus is seeking was stolen by the Brigands.

Answer: True

You'll want to get that mirror if you wish to finish the game. This mirror is the last item you'll use in "Quest for Glory 1". Fail to use it at the right time, and you'll be dead.
11. If you lose your sword at any point in the game, you'll have only one chance to get another one, late in the game.

Answer: False

If you happen to drop or throw your sword, you'll never be able to get it back (at least, unless you import your character into the next game in the series). You can still find or buy a dagger somewhere. Magic Users and Thieves always fight with a dagger anyway, but fighters will become much less powerful if they ever lose their sword, or their shield. Fortunately, you won't lose the sword or shield if you simply don't drop them manually!
12. To free the Baronet Barnard von Spielburg, you'll need to kill his captor, a dangerous Kobold. The Kobold isn't an easy enemy, because he has a very powerful attribute - which is it?

Answer: He can cast spells

The Kobold fight is not as dangerous as it sounds, because there are many ways to even the odds, especially if you're a spell caster yourself. A fighter character might take a lot of damage fighting this creature though, because the Kobold can teleport all around his cave and you have to chase him while he hurls flame darts at you.
13. Besides the Kobold, there are three different creatures guarding his cave.

Answer: False

There are only two creatures guarding the Kobold's cave. One is a powerful ogre, one of the fiercest fighters in the game. The other is a bear, who will kill you when you approach. In fact, the bear is the Baron's son, shapeshifted and held captive in the cave. You can find the key to release him hidden on the Kobold. Thieves can try to steal this key without the Kobold ever noticing.
14. You'll be wanting to put together a Dispel Potion, but the ingredients are many and hard to find. Which of the following is one of them?

Answer: Flying Water

The Flying Waterfall is situated in the southwestern corner of the forest, next to the hermit's cave. Only water from this waterfall is considered a magical ingredient. This is the simplest ingredient to acquire, as all others require solving some quest.
15. An Antwerp is a cross between a dog, another dog, and a big blue ball of blubber. There's one guarding a strange rock formation in the southern part of the forest. Which of these is the only way to kill it?

Answer: You can't kill the Antwerp.

You can't kill an Antwerp, as it will only split into smaller "Baby antwerp". Watch out not to disturb it - the Antwerp can easily kill you. This is one of the funniest death scenes in the game.

If you don't disturb the Antwerp, you can simply go around it, and you might find what it is guarding. This information will be extremely valuable to you for finishing the game, assuming you're not strong enough to survive a direct assault on the Brigand Fortress...
