Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Baba Yaga wants to eat you, which will make you wonder why you ever wanted to get into her hut. But seeing as you're a hero, you might be able to convince her to let you perform some task for her. Which alchemical ingredient will she want delivered in exchange for your life?

Answer: Mandrake root

Mandrake is a distant relative of tomatoes and potatoes. It is mentioned as early as the book of Genesis (in the Bible), and was considered to be a remedy for infertility. It has hallucinogenic properties. Curiously, it is also related to the nightshade, another important ingredient in alchemy and medieval witchcraft.
2. You'll need to visit the graveyard at night, but it is haunted by ghosts who can easily suck the life right out of you. To get past them you will need an Undead ________.

Answer: Unguent

Unguent means "ointment", something smeared on the body for medicinal purposes. In this case, the illness is "undead sucking the life out of you". If you go to the graveyard at night, protected by the unguent, you can get the Mandrake Root required by Baba Yaga.
3. What kind of creature is lurking in the tunnels near the Brigand Fortress?

Answer: Troll

There's a troll down there. Despite this, the tunnels may be your best bet, because the only other way into the Brigand Fortress is through an ambush area where you'll be shot full of arrows, not to mention a minotaur guarding the fortress gate. Both are harder to overcome than a single troll, despite its strength. Also, the troll hoards a lot of treasure!
4. Where is the minotaur hoarding his treasure?

Answer: In his flail

The minotaur guards the main gate of the Brigand Fortress, which is the only way inside. It is the toughest enemy in the game - he hits hard and often, and can take a lot of beating before he goes down. Non-fighter characters can usually find a way to bypass the minotaur, but fighters will probably have to take him on. You have to be pretty good by the time you assault the fortress, otherwise expect to die promptly.
5. What is the correct order of the ordeals you must go through to reach the Brigand Leader's chamber?

Answer: None of these is correct

The traps area comes first - you'll have to negotiate an obstacle course with many traps that can kill you, while brigands shoot arrows at you from various directions.

After this, you'll reach the mess hall, where brigands try to come through from various doors, and you'll need to figure out a way to block each door before they enter through it.

Eventually you'll reach the warlock's maze, where there are many doors leading in all different directions. And you have to finish the maze while the warlock throws everything but the kitchen sink at you... that is, unless you can figure out who the warlock is and try to convince him not to attack you!
6. What is the Warlock's true name?

Answer: Yorick

Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him well. He was the court jester at the Baron's castle, until the Baron's daughter was kidnapped. He vowed to bring her back, and found her living with the Brigands, her memories magically erased. He joined the Brigands to protect her, and still works for them under the guise of a powerful magic user. Once you tell him that you've come to rescue her, he will stop attacking you and you'll be able to cross the maze with far fewer distractions.
7. In the mess hall, you'll meet three comedians who are making a cameo appearance in this game, in brigand uniforms! They are very famous characters from 50's slapstick movies. What is their screen name?

Answer: The Three Stooges

Larry, Curly and Moe will be the last brigands to enter the mess hall, and you'll have to be smart about how to deal with them. They're much more harmful than the actual three stooges ever were (imagine that!), so don't let them catch you. Once you defeat them, you can escape into the warlock's maze.
8. Who's the owner of the rug you'll find in the Brigand Leader's chamber?

Answer: Abdulla

Shameen and Shema are two creatures from the cat-like "Katta" race, hailing from the desert lands of Shapeir. They run the Adventurer's Inn in Spielburg, but are longing to go back home to their city. Abdulla Doo is a merchant from Shapeir who was on his way to pick up Shameen and Shema, but he was waylaid by Brigands and his magic carpet and all belongings were stolen. Now all three are stranded in Spielburg, unless of course you can pick up that rug! If you do, they'll take you with them when they leave Spielburg, heading off to your next adventure in "Quest for Glory 2: Trial by Fire".
9. What is the earliest day on which you can finish the game?

Answer: There's no minimum

The events in "Quest for Glory 1" are not time-based, but rather they are skill-based. Meaning, if you're not skilled enough, you may not be able to overcome some of the challenges required to finish the game. If you train up quickly and efficiently, and do everything without wasting time, you might be ready to face the final challenges very soon. On your first game however, you might spend over a month (of game-time) to work up the skills you'll need, and collect all the items.

But there is certainly no lower or upper limit, and unless you're in a hurry to finish the game, you can spend many days improving your character's attributes to 100 points each.

This is very useful, because you can later import your character into the next game in the series, allowing you to keep all of the hard work you've put into maximizing your skills.

This is true for EVERY "Quest for Glory" game, although the second game is a bit more rigid when it comes to the timing of specific events...
10. When you've finished the game, you can save your character, and can then import it into the next game in the series, allowing you to keep all your hard-earned stats. The question is: What is the extension of this saved file?

Answer: .SAV

I still have all my old .SAV files stored. They're great to have whenever I want to play the series again from the middle, although I usually play the whole thing through. "Quest for Glory" is comprised of five different games, and all but the last one are pretty terrific. I truly recommend all of them to anyone who's ever enjoyed an adventure game.
