Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When you reach Bill's, he's having a little trouble. What's wrong?

Answer: He switched bodies with a Pokémon

Bill is a scientist, and invented the PC system for transporting and storing Pokémon. He conducted an experiment in which he ended up in the body of a Pokémon, and was unable to reverse the process in his new form. He asked you for help to get him back to normal, and in return gave you a ticket for the S.S. Anne. In the anime series, Bill was only trapped inside a Pokémon suit.
2. What does Bill give you for helping him?

Answer: S.S. Anne Ticket

The S.S. Anne is a large cruise ship that only Pokémon trainers are allowed to travel on. This is also where you'll get your first HM, which will help you in a lot of places on your adventure.
3. In the north-eastern part of Cerulean City is a house that has been demolished by Diglett. The officer out side will let you pass through the house in order for you to continue your adventure (the only way to get to Route 5 is through the back yard). In the back yard you find the Team Rocket member that caused all the trouble. After defeating him, which TM will he give you?

Answer: TM 28 (Dig)

Dig is a nice, powerful Ground attack. It's only draw back is that it takes two turns to complete. The first turn is taken by digging underground, and the second involves coming back up to deliver a nice blow to your opponent.
4. Where is the large cruise ship moored when you find it?

Answer: Vermilion City

There's plenty to do in Vermilion City. You can get the Bike Voucher, a Farfetch'd, the Old Rod (which can only catch Magikarp), and your third Gym Badge.
5. While on the S.S. Anne, you can battle many trainers including your rival, acquire a horde of items, and get HM01. What move does HM01 contain?

Answer: Cut

Cut is used to cut down those small shrub things that seem only to be placed in your way. Once you have it, you'll be able to open up so many more places, including the Vermillion Gym. All this and it's a decent normal move.
6. How many switches do you have to flip to open the doors to Lt. Surge's room?

Answer: Two

To get the Lt. Surge's room, you need to find two switches in the garbage cans. They're always beside each other, but the catch is that once you find one of them you have to find the other without looking in a single other empty can. If you do screw up, the switches will be reset and you'll have to find them all over again.
7. What is Lt. Surge's strongest Pokémon?

Answer: Raichu

This is the evolved form of Pikachu. It's big, beefy, and its Electric-type moves are unrivaled at this point in the game. The only sure way to beat this Pokémon is to have a Ground-type Pokémon with a solid Ground-type attack (remember you just acquired TM 28?).

The other way is to just be plain faster than that monster Pokémon; fast enough to take it down before it can get off a single burst of electricity at you.
8. What is the name of the cave that connects Route 11 and Route 2?

Answer: Diglett's Cave

Diglett's Cave will take you to a part of Route 2 that you couldn't access the first time 'round. Now, with Cut, you'll be able to get to all of it, but you'll want to be looking at the large building just east of where Viridian Forest should be.
9. On Route 2 you can get your second HM (although it's not necessary). You get it from Professor Oak's Aid, who will only give it to you if you've caught a certain number of Pokémon. How many Pokémon do you have to have owned at least once to get Flash?

Answer: Ten

Flash doesn't enter the game many times, but it is quite helpful when you can be used. There are some caves (like the one you'll be going through in a moment) that are pitch black. You don't need Flash, but they're a lot easier to navigate when you can see all the walls, floors, and trainers.
10. What is the name of the first pitch black tunnel you have to go through?

Answer: Rock Tunnel

This tunnel is dark, and you'll need Flash if you want the lighting to become normal. You don't need Flash, though. Rock Tunnel only has two levels, but there's a lot of going between the two. If you can navigate your way through the gloomy tunnels and fifteen trainers (you can avoid some, and some are necessary), you'll wind up on Route 10, which is directly north of Lavender Town.
