Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mission 1: Ambush at Mos Eisley. The Rogues were out for an early morning patrol on Tatooine, where the Empire did not have much influence. During their flight, though, they saw moisture farmer homesteads being attacked by what?

Answer: Probe Droids

Probe Droids were first seen in 1980, in "The Empire Strikes Back". The Empire used them to search for signs of the Rebel Alliance. One landed on Hoth, and saw the Rebel's shield generator before Han Solo destroyed it. They were black, floating droids, loaded with sensors and dangling manipulator arms.

In "Rogue Squadron", they were weakly armoured and armed enemies, taking only one shot to destroy. They often came in large groups, though, and could sometimes be difficult to shoot.
2. Mission 1: Ambush at Mos Eisley. After the Rogues saved all the homesteads, what did the Empire use to attack the city of Mos Eisley?

Answer: TIE Bombers

TIE Bombers were similar to TIE Fighters. Their solar panel wings were curved, and they had a second section between them. One pod was for the pilot, while the other carried large amounts of ordnance. TIE Bombers were rarely a threat to the Rogues themselves, but could level a city or friendly ground targets very quickly, if not dealt with.

TIE Bombers were seen in "The Empire Strikes Back" when the Empire was searching for the Millennium Falcon in the asteroid field.
3. Mission 2: Rendezvous on Barkhesh. After flying around Tatooine, the Rogues were sent to meet a Rebel cell on the planet Barhesh. What was the Rogues' job on Barkhesh?

Answer: Escort a convoy

The Rogues were frequently called upon to defend friendly units from the Empire's forces. On Barkhesh, a Rebel convoy of supplies was travelling through a canyon to a rendezvous with a shuttle. The Rogues had to fend off TIE Bombers and AT-STs to ensure the convoy would survive.
4. Mission 2: Rendezvous on Barkhesh. The AT-ST was a staple of the Empire's oppression machine, and thus, a common sight for the Rogues. They were used in many combat situations by the Empire. What did "AT-ST" stand for?

Answer: All Terrain Scout Transport

AT-STs were first seen in 1983, in "The Return of the Jedi". They were two-legged Imperial walkers seen during the final battle on Endor.

In Rogue Squadron, The AT-ST could be a formidable enemy. They could take more hits than any flying enemy, and most ground enemies (the exception being the colossal AT-AT). Attacking from behind an AT-ST was usually pretty safe, but they could easily shoot down ships that flew in a straight line in front of them. AT-STs appeared in more than half of the campaign missions in "Rogue Squadron".
5. Mission 3: The Search for the Nonnah. Usually the Rogues flew X-wings, which were nice, balanced ships. However, during the search for the crashed Nonnah, the Rogues needed speed more than anything else. What ships did the Rogues use when searching for the Nonnah?

Answer: A-wings

A-wings were almost entirely giant engines, with a cockpit and some weak lasers strapped on. They were very fast and manoeuvrable, and could deliver a moderate punch with their concussion missiles. On the other hand, they had weak shields, and no R2 unit to help the pilot. A-wings were used as scouts and as interceptors to take down enemy fighters.

They were not very effective against more armoured targets.
6. Mission 3: The Search for the Nonnah. The Imperials were also interested in finding the Nonnah, and destroying the data that its crew had stolen. The Imperials deployed their own high-speed fighter to search for and destroy the Nonnah. What was it called?

Answer: TIE Interceptor

The TIE Interceptor was the Imperial response to the Rebels' A-wing. It was also very fast, and had no sheilds. Like the X-wing, the TIE Interceptor had four laser cannons, and would take out enemy fighters in a hail of laser bolts. TIE Interceptors were difficult to hit when not flying in a straight line. Fast, weak, homing concussion missiles were often an effective weapon against them (which the A-wing carried).
7. Mission 4: Defection at Corellia. The Rebel Alliance often made use of Imperial defectors. Which high-ranking Imperial officer was attempting to defect to the Rebel Alliance at Corellia?

Answer: Crix Maidine

Crix Maidine was an Imperial officer. After defecting to the Rebels, he led many commando raids on Imperial buildings. The Rogues would fly cover for Maidine and his commandos multiple times during "Rogue Squadron". Crix Maidine was played by Dermot Crowley in "The Return of the Jedi".

Carlist Rieeken was an older, high-ranking Rebel officer, and often coordinated the missions that the Rogues flew in. His homeworld was Alderaan, which was destroyed in "A New Hope". He was played by Bruce Boa in "The Empire Strikes Back".

Tycho Celchu was a character created for the "X-wing: Rogue Squadron" comics and the "X-wing" novels. He later appeared in "Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike". Baron Fel appeared in the "X-wing: Rogue Squadron" comics and some "Star Wars" novels set in the Expanded Universe.
8. Mission 4: Defection at Corellia. The Rogues were having some trouble keeping all the Imperial forces from destroying the capital city, Corell. Which friendly face showed up to help out the Rogues?

Answer: Han Solo

Han Solo was a Corellian, and even served in the armed forces. He did have some love for his homeplanet, and did not care for the Empire. When the Imperials started bombing the capital city, he flew in to help the Rogues fight off the bombers, and evacuate the city.
9. Mission 5: Liberation of Gerrard V. The people of the planet Gerrard V were ready to leave the Empire and join the Rebel Alliance. What was the Imperial governor of Gerrard V trying to do in response?

Answer: Escape with the planet's wealth

The Imperial governer knew that his hold on the planet was at an end, so he confiscated as much of the planet's wealth as he could, and loaded it onto yachts to escape. Rebel Y-wings were armed with ion cannons, and able to disable the yachts before they could leave the planet. The Rogues were tasked with defending Y-wings from turrets, AT-PTs, and later, TIE Interceptors.
10. Mission 5: Liberation of Gerrard V. During the battle on Gerrad V, Rogue Squadron flew against the infamous 128 TIE Interceptor squadron. After the battle, which Imperial pilot offered to defect?

Answer: Kasan Moor

The 128 TIE Interceptor squadron was home to some of the best pilots the Empire had to offer. After disabling all the yachts on Gerrard V, the Y-wings helped the Rogues clean up the remaining Imperials. One TIE Interceptor that was disabled was flown by Kasan Moor.

Despite just flying against the Rogues, she was becoming disillusioned with her employer, and offered to share what she knew with the Rebels. The Rebels did not fully trust the Imperial defector right away, but gave her opportunities to prove her loyalty.

She ended up becoming one of the best known pilots in Rogue Squadron.
