Question 1 of 10
1. Link... youthful, courageous, dedicated Link... we know you like the color green, OK? It's not a sin to change up your wardrobe once or twice a decade. Which of the following games gives us a break and doesn't force that tacky green tunic on us before we even know we have to save the world? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Princess, sweetheart, we get the feeling you can't defend yourself alone very well. But for the love of cuccos you sure can beat the snot off of Ganon when Link is around... in which game do you not assist the hero in delaying the evil king's plans during the "final" showdown? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Poor Ganondorf, he has it very hard. Being the only male Gerudo born every so many decades must really take a toll on him. As if being the alpha male without any opposition weren't enough for him, of course he needs to take over the world. But even evil kings need a break from time to time... so he took a few. For which of the following games was Ganon/Ganondorf NOT absent as a character? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. What's this, Link will have a companion on his journey? Oh wow that's so cool-- oh wait... this has happened more times than you can shake a Deku Stick at. In which of the following games does he actually perform solo? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. What in the name of Hyrule would we do without the legendary blade of evil's bane, what with its "effective" evil-banishing powers and whatnot. Give us a blade that can actually finish the job, once and for all, please! Which of the following games doesn't need the Master Sword to vanquish the arch enemy and silence him for good? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Gosh it'd be handy if in real life we had treasure chests scattered around containing money. We get teased more than enough in these games! Which of the following games righteously do not contain any treasure chests whatsoever? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. The divine, untouchable, holier-than-thou goddesses that made all of this possible... for such noble parts of the storyline, you'd think they could leave their mark on the world in such a way that it couldn't empower evil hands in the first place. What game snubs them altogether and doesn't even mention their names? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Oh, what was that sound? The one that just went off as I tripped that switch? What could it be? Yes, we get it, we clearly solved a piece of some puzzle or mystery, hence the infamous "Zelda" jingle. We get more than our fair share of this tune in every "Legend of Zelda" game except for which of the following? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. It's certainly been ingrained in our minds that music serves a very important function for the series. There's always some music involved in teleportation or making giant blocks disappear or changing the day into night... and all sorts of instruments have been used to serve this sort of purpose! Which game stands out and doesn't offer us any interactive musical magic? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Every time we begin our adventure, we start with minimal life energy. We slave and toil getting to the end with maximum heart containers by defeating bosses and collecting pieces of heart. Over and over, again and again, we know all too well the process of powering up over time. Which game made things a little more interesting and didn't feature hearts as measures of life power? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Link... youthful, courageous, dedicated Link... we know you like the color green, OK? It's not a sin to change up your wardrobe once or twice a decade. Which of the following games gives us a break and doesn't force that tacky green tunic on us before we even know we have to save the world?

Answer: Wind Waker

OK, so it did take just about a decade, but "Wind Waker" (GCN) starts Link off with common island clothing. Leave it to dear old grandma to make this appearance short and sweet - Link gets the old green clothes before ever setting sail. Seriously - the clothes are REALLY old. Grandma points out that they belonged to a "hero" ages ago. Care to venture a guess as to this hero's name?
2. Princess, sweetheart, we get the feeling you can't defend yourself alone very well. But for the love of cuccos you sure can beat the snot off of Ganon when Link is around... in which game do you not assist the hero in delaying the evil king's plans during the "final" showdown?

Answer: A Link to the Past

You OBVIOUSLY had some important royal stuff to do during this showdown! Princess Zelda is not present for the "final" battle Link has against Ganondorf in "A Link to the Past" (Super Nintendo Entertainment System/SNES).
But my what an incredible shot you are with the bow, Princess. In "Wind Waker" (GCN) and "Twilight Princess" (Wii), Princess Zelda stuns Ganondorf with light arrows. In "Ocarina of Time" (N64), she uses her magic power to keep Ganon down while Link delivers the coup de grace.
You know, being royalty and all, of course no one's going to ask but... any help you could provide the skinny green guy as he faces an evil-infused beast would be much appreciated.
And we can bet on experiencing that deja-vu moment again, too.

Answer: Oracle of Seasons/Ages

It took him a while - specifically until he was revived by Twinrova, but Ganon was right on time for another beating in "Oracle of Seasons" and "Oracle of Ages" (Gameboy Advance). After Link defeats Veran in "Oracle of Ages" and Onox in "Oracle of Seasons" in a linked game, he then goes on to face the puppeteers Koume and Kotake. After taking them down, they sacrifice themselves to revive the evil king and the rest we already know so well.
Meanwhile, Ganon was occupied either plotting his return or regrouping for "The Adventure of Link" (Nintendo Entertainment System/NES), "Phantom Hourglass" (DS), and "Spirit Tracks" (DS).
Despite his repeated failures, he's made it perfectly clear over the years that he's not the type to -just give up already-.
4. What's this, Link will have a companion on his journey? Oh wow that's so cool-- oh wait... this has happened more times than you can shake a Deku Stick at. In which of the following games does he actually perform solo?

Answer: Link's Awakening

Yes indeed, our hero does not have a traveling companion in "Link's Awakening" (Gameboy). This doesn't necessarily mean he's strong enough to carry on without an ally in the future, it just means his subconscious is very generous with regard to his capabilities.
Link was assisted by Ezlo in "Minish Cap" (GBA), by Tatl in "Majora's Mask" (N64), and by the King of Red Lions in "Wind Waker".
And these aren't the only ones in which he's had a travel buddy, either!
Why not throw us a curveball and surprise us with something more original, for goodness sakes...

Answer: Majora's Mask

No thanks, O legendary Master Sword, we can use something else to take care of the skull kid. Assuming you've collected all of the masks in "Majora's Mask", you can receive the bonus Fierce Deity mask. With this mask, Link becomes much more powerful and changes form into that of an adult (much like Adult Link from "Ocarina of Time").

The sword that the Fierce Deity mask endows upon you makes short work of the final boss, making it a fun and easy finish to an otherwise challenging game. Not only that, but have you seen the evil within Majora's Mask return since? Maybe the Master Sword isn't all it's cut out to be when Ganondorf ALWAYS returns. Just maybe.
6. Gosh it'd be handy if in real life we had treasure chests scattered around containing money. We get teased more than enough in these games! Which of the following games righteously do not contain any treasure chests whatsoever?

Answer: Legend of Zelda (NES)

Believe it or not, the one that started it all didn't start the treasure chest theme. "Legend of Zelda" (NES) was so primitive that it in fact did not feature any such chests, and instead you'd either be given an item by the old wise man or you'd need to buy items in a shop. Dungeons that contained items had them hiding inside an underground room on a ledge as opposed to having items hidden in a large treasure chest. Incidentally, "The Adventure of Link" also did not have treasure chests.

But beginning with number three "A Link to the Past", treasure chests were introduced and never went away... and probably never will.
7. The divine, untouchable, holier-than-thou goddesses that made all of this possible... for such noble parts of the storyline, you'd think they could leave their mark on the world in such a way that it couldn't empower evil hands in the first place. What game snubs them altogether and doesn't even mention their names?

Answer: Twilight Princess

Indeed, these three girls (Din, Nayru, and Farore) created the land, life on the land, and the laws of nature. That was very nice of them. And then as they departed for the sky, they left their special insignia which could ultimately destroy everything if the wrong person comes across it. Not so wise of you, ladies.
We know all about the Triforce and its appeal and its shiny colors. But honestly, that thing is better off tossed in a volcano than left sitting somewhere waiting to be snatched. And so, "Twilight Princess" realizes this great inconvenience and doesn't mention the goddesses at all.
"Ocarina of Time" explicitly talks about them when unraveling the storyline, and "Wind Waker" contains three special pearls that are named after the goddesses. The goddesses seem to make a live special appearance in "Minish Cap" when they move into the castle town market!

Answer: The Adventure of Link (NES)

This tune is played upon the accomplishment of countless different tasks which typically assist Link in advancing further through a dungeon or temple. As if it were the only possible tune that could ever be such an indication... yet "The Adventure of Link" originally released for the NES never played the tune.

It is the sole "Legend of Zelda" game that makes this distinction against all of the others.

Answer: Phantom Hourglass

"Phantom Hourglass" gives us a break from the expected and does not feature any interactive musical instrument. Did anyone really notice it was missing while almost all of the other "Legend of Zelda" games feature them in some capacity?
However, it's apparent the list of new innovative instruments is getting sparse. They've used flutes, drums, ocarinas, guitars, and more in order to keep it fresh. And while we still know to count on musical instruments being featured in the future, at least we have the mystery of what's going to come next.

Answer: The Adventure of Link

It is true that "The Adventure of Link" offered a bar life meter that could be increased with power-ups instead of the traditional hearts. While this is indeed a breath of fresh air from the "same ol' same ol'" style of sustenance, it is also the general consensus that this game was the worst received of them all. But regardless it provides some much needed diversity for a series that loves to cling to its safety zone.
All other "Legend of Zelda" games utilize hearts as a life gauge.
