"Snoopy vs. The Red Baron": General Knowledge Quiz

This quiz is based on PC version of the 2006 video game "Snoopy vs. The Red Baron." Personally, it's a must for fans of Snoopy's alternate personality, the WWI Flying Ace. And quite possibly a must for any 'Peanuts' fans.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these is not one of the weapons Snoopy can use during the game?

Answer: The Biscuit Missile

With all the crazy weapons Snoopy uses during the game, you'd almost expect a dog bone-shaped biscuit being used as a missile. Biscuits do, in fact, make an appearance in the game. However, rather than being used as missiles, they appear as a part of the rank you might get for completing a mission. I've seen two biscuits in a dog bowl for corporal and three in a dog bowl for sergeant.
2. When you first start playing the game under a particular profile, you don't have full access to all playable characters in Dog Fight Mode. Which of these is not a character that needs to be unlocked for use in Dog Fight Mode?

Answer: Charlie Brown

The only way to unlock more playable characters for Dog Fight Mode is to collect the letters of their names in the various worlds of Campaign Mode. Then you need to purchase them at Pigpen's shop, and Pigpen will seriously charge you for opening playable characters. The good news is that you can replay any level in any world to get more paw coins to pay with.
3. Besides running the shop, what other job does the instruction manual claim Pigpen has?

Answer: Snoopy's mechanic

Well, anyone who has seen "A Charlie Brown Christmas" will remember that Pigpen was given the role of the inn keeper in the gang's Christmas play. It could be said that he's a dust wrangler from the perpetual cloud of dust that surrounds him. It could also be claimed he's had a career as a Vacuum Cleaner Salesman as Regina used him as a spokes character in some of their commercials in the '90s.

However, the game manual describes him as a mechanic who tinkers with Snoopy's Sopwith Camel all the time.
4. What is so unusual about the plane Marcie flies in Dog Fight Mode?

Answer: It's an autogyro

Most of the gang are flying bi-planes or mono-planes. An exception being Woodstock who appears to fly a wind up glider. The autogyro looks kind of like a cross between a helicopter and a mono-plane that was invented in 1919 and first flew in 1923.
5. Besides Snoopy, who is the only playable character in Campaign Mode?

Answer: Woodstock

There are two ways you can play as Woodstock. The first is the Woodstock missile. The second is during some of the boss missions. In these Woodstock's glider is being towed by Snoopy as Woodstock mans the glider's gun turret to take out the boss.
6. Among Snoopy's early arsenal in the game is something called the Woodstock missile. Exactly what is the Woodstock Missile?

Answer: A guided missile

When Snoopy fires the Woodstock missile, play switches from Snoopy's Sopwith Camel to Woodstock riding atop a missile. You control the Woodstock Missile just like you control the Camel. Though it may seem like a suicide mission for Snoopy's faithful bird friend, Woodstock abandons the missile just before it explodes and returns to Snoopy.

In addition to the Woodstock Missile and the tail gunner in some boss missions, Woodstock also helps Snoopy operate some of his other secondary weapons.
7. What does Schroeder do in Campaign Mode?

Answer: He sails a gunboat

Schroeder is one of the few characters not seen flying during Campaign Mode. He assists Snoopy by sailing a gunboat in one level of the game, the only level he appears in. However, in Dog Fight Mode he flies a plane clearly inspired by the planes of the Wright Brothers. Schroeder's insignia is a musical note in a blue circle.
8. Of the characters seen flying in campaign mode, only one is not in control of what their flying in/on. Who is it?

Answer: Charlie Brown

Captured by the Baron early in the game's Campaign Mode, poor Charlie Brown isn't seen flying until the final mission of the game. And then he's seen strapped to the Baron's ultimate weapon, the Doodlebug! Looks like the Baron's trying to use him as a shield to keep Snoopy from destroying the Doodlebug.
9. In the Woods of Montsec cut scene, who does Linus task with briefing the allies as to what is happening in this world?

Answer: Sally

The instruction manual calls Sally the gang's spy. Exactly how good a spy she is seems to be a bit of a question as she treats the briefing as if it were just a report she's giving in school. After a minute or so Linus is forced to shove her aside so as to end the briefing.
10. Anyone familiar with the 'Peanuts' comic strip will know all about Snoopy's infamous Sopwith Camel. What is the Sopwith Camel in the game?

Answer: A Sopwith Camel

In the comics Snoopy always imagines his dog house is the famed British Sopwith Camel bi-plane from WWI. And while the game does start out in Campaign Mode letting you fly his dog house, you soon purchase a Sopwith Camel for actual use in the game.
11. What is the last secondary weapon Snoopy can buy?

Answer: 10 Gauge Pumpkin

The 10 Gauge Pumpkin is an awesome weapon for Snoopy to have. Though the manual says you're firing a burst of pumpkin seeds at the enemy, it looks more like five or six small pumpkins. The great thing is that the 10 Gauge Pumpkin can deal a lot of damage to an enemy, even being able to take out some of the tougher ones with a single shot.

The bad thing is that it's range is extremely limited, as is the ammo count.
12. Not counting the Baron, what is the toughest enemy fighter Snoopy has to deal with?

Answer: Purple Fighter

While the bombers that serve in the Baron's forces might actually be the toughest planes after the Red Baron, the purple fighters are actually the toughest fighters after the Baron. They look more like twin-engine bombers from WWI rather than fighters, but the game uses them as fighters.

As such their fast and highly maneuverable, with a lot of firepower and the ability to absorb a ton of damage before they're taken down.
13. The Baron's ultimate weapon is the Doodlebug. What is the Doodlebug?

Answer: A super missile

While it's interesting to note that the game uses the same name for the super missile Snoopy must take out at the end of the game as one of the nicknames the British gave to the German V1 of WWII, that's about the only thing these two missiles have in common.

The Doodlebug has three rocket boosters that must be taken out just to slow it down. Then as Snoopy continues his attack the missile defends itself with an array of rotating guns.
14. Does Snoopy ever have to worry about his altitude?

Answer: Yes

In at least a couple of missions Snoopy literally has to fly under enemy radar or risk getting blown out of the sky. For these missions you're equipped with an altitude meter that lets you know whether your too high or not.
15. One of my favorite lines of the whole game is "How can intelligence be quantified if it can only be determined by ignorance?" It's a rather philosophical line, fitting for the character to say as it's well within their personality. Who says the line?

Answer: Linus

Linus tends to be the most philosophical member of the 'Peanuts' gang in the comics, so it's only fitting that he be given such a line. What makes it all the more funny is that immediately before he says it Lucy tells him "You're the Intelligence Officer. Say something intelligent." Yes Linus is the gang's Intelligence Officer, and bossy Lucy fits as the gang's commanding officer/general.
