Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which gym leader uses an Onix in all three games?

Answer: Brock

Brock is the first gym leader in the game and he specializes in rock/ground-type Pokémon. In "Pokémon Red and Blue", you're able to choose between three starter Pokémon; two of which are super effective against Brock. In "Pokémon Yellow" on the other hand, you start with Pikachu, and his lightning-attacks don't affect these Pokémon at all.

After the battle, you'll be given the Boulderbadge and TM 28 which contains Bide.
2. Which Pokémon can only be added to your collection (excluding through trades) in Saffron City?

Answer: Lapras

Lapras is a water/ice-type Pokémon that can only be given to you when you're on the seventh floor of Silph Co. in Saffron City. Lapras always has high HP, and it's always a stronger Pokémon with moves like Body Slam and Hydro Pump. Eevee is only found in Celadon City, Lickitung can be caught in "Pokémon Yellow", but can only be traded for in "Pokémon Red and Blue". Omanyte is found in Mount Moon, but it becomes part of your collection on Cinnabar Island.
3. Which Pokémon is only acquired through trading?

Answer: Alakazam

Alakazam is a strong Psychic-type Pokémon that is evolved from Kadabra. Only four Pokémon are evolved through trading in these three games. Kadabra will evolve into Alakazam, Graveler becomes the Rock-type Golem, Haunter will become Gengar, a ghost-type, and Machoke will evolve into Machamp, the fighting-type.

In order to get these Pokémon, you'll need a copy of "Pokémon Stadium" and a transfer pak, or you'll need to trade with a friend who has a link cable. Once the Pokémon has been evolved, it will still learn attacks at the same rate as it would in its second stage.
4. What is HM03?

Answer: Surf

HM03, Surf, is one of five Hidden Machines obtained in the game. The others are Cut, Fly, Strength, and Flash. In order to obtain HM03, you must watch your step counter in the Safari Zone and make your way to the house on the far end of the area. Once you teach Surf to one of your water-type Pokémon, it will be able to take you across the sea to Seafoam Islands and Cinnabar Island.
5. Which object is given to you in Pallet Town?

Answer: Town Map

If you visit your rival's house shortly after beginning your journey, then their sister will hand you their Town Map. This item, which can't be thrown away or overused, will list all of the towns and Routes in the game as well as significant areas such as the Power Plant and Mount Moon. It is also possible to find unobtainable Town Maps in houses throughout Kanto.
6. What item is given to you by the Fishing Guru?

Answer: Old Rod

The Old Rod is the weakest type of rod found in the game, and you can obtain it for free by talking to the Fishing Guru in Vermilion City. Along the way through the game, you can also pick up the Good Rod and Super Rod from some of the Fishing Guru's relatives (check Fuchsia City for one ;) ).

The Old Rod is notorious for only catching Magikarps, and you can buy them anyways for $500 outside Mount Moon. They evolve into the powerful Pokémon, Gyarados.
7. Where do you fight the Elite Four?

Answer: Indigo Plateau

The Elite Four will be the penultimate challenge for you and your Pokémon during the game. Once you fight through Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha, and Lance, your journey will not be over though. Before the end of the game, you must fight your rival one final time. Once you reach the Indigo Plateau, you can fly to it like any city.

Indigo Plateau features a Pokémart and Pokécenter which are useful before the final battles.
8. Which Pokémon is found in "Pokémon Blue", but not "Pokémon Red"?

Answer: Sandshrew

Although Sandshrew is only found in "Pokémon Blue (and Yellow)", Ekans is only found in "Pokémon Red (and Yellow)". Gengar can be found in any game although you must trade to get one. Voltorb on the other hand, is found in all three games. Sandshrew can be found as early as Route 3, and it's a ground/poison-type Pokémon.

Although it doesn't learn powerful fighting-type moves, it can use its Fury Swipes ability in order to defeat others.
9. Which Pokémon has not been evolved?

Answer: Eevee

Eevee can be found in Celadon City, and it's quite unique. Using one of three evolution stones, Eevee can evolve into Flareon, the fire-type, Vaporeon, the water-type, and Jolteon, the electric-type. When in these different evolutions, Eevee will learn different moves from the others. Like any other evolved Pokémon, they will not return to their unevolved form, so make sure that you pick the one you want! You can always get another Eevee from "Pokémon Stadium" or another "Pokémon" game though.

In future "Pokémon" games, Eevee can evolve into yet more forms.
10. What "Pokémon-themed" word can be spelled with the first letter of the previous nine correct answers?

Answer: Blastoise

Blastoise is the final evolution of the starter Pokémon, Squirtle. As soon as Wartortle reaches level 36, it tends to evolve. You can always prevent evolution though, and when this is done, you can usually learn attacks at a faster rate. Although Blastoise is great for fighting the first gym leader, Brock, it's usually not effective against the following gym leaders, Misty, Lt. Surge, and Erika.
