Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First, I knew that some of the level design consisted of a kind of 3D object that might be called a 3D circle. Mario has the ability to walk all around them. What kind of object am I talking about?

Answer: Sphere

Mario finds himself running and jumping all around all sorts of planets, including spheres. Some planets get very interesting. One is a capsule with alternating gravity on the inside! Mario will have to get accustomed to this if he wants to take down Bowser!
2. What are the names of the star-like beings that speak to Mario and can transform?

Answer: Lumas

Lumas come in different colors and play different roles. Some are "Hungry Lumas" that will reward Mario for feeding them. Some are Lumas that can transform for Mario if he can do a favor or complete a task for them. They are in just about every corner of the game and will come in quite handy if you have enough Star Bits!
3. What is the name of the central hub of the game? Rather, where does Mario go to access every level?

Answer: The Comet Observatory

The Comet Observatory is where Mario can travel to every level. To power it, he needs to collect Power Stars and Grand Stars. Rosalina (watcher of the stars) tells him that if he can power the observatory so that it may move again, he can save Princess Peach.

She has once again been abducted by Bowser. Bowser's final battle takes place at the center of the universe, which Mario can access once the Comet Observatory has enough star power.
4. What is the first galaxy Mario can travel to via the main hub?

Answer: Good Egg Galaxy

The Good Egg Galaxy is a scattered galaxy with several different floating planetoids that tend to be aimed more at teaching Mario the basics of different situations. The first Power Star that Mario is challenged with is actually a boss fight against the Dino Piranha.

He experiences some strange gravity inside the pill shaped capsule that he reaches via a launch star. In some zones of the capsule he gravitates towards the ceiling!
5. Which of these will Mario gravitate to if the player grabs it with the Wii Remote?

Answer: Pull Star

Pull stars are blue and have a major position in gameplay. Firstly, in the level portals, Mario must first go to a Pull Star to get to the point where he can choose his galaxy. Secondly, once in a level, Pull Stars can do things like move Mario across stretches of space to pulling him close enough to a Launch Star to activate it. Some Lumas can turn into these. They are certainly useful!
6. The first star Mario collects is a Grand Star.

Answer: True

It's true, a Grand Star is the first star he collects. Mario proceeds through some basic planetoids near the beginning of the game until he reaches an area where a Grand Star is protected from him by a machine. Mario must work his way through an obstacle course until he deactivates the machine. Once he collects this Grand Star, it leads him to the Comet Observatory, and the first level is opened with the power of said star.
7. How does Mario learn his new spin move?

Answer: A Luma enables him

At the beginning of the game, Mario is tasked with finding and catching three rabbits that are actually well disguised Lumas. After he catches all three, he is given a Luma to live inside of him that gives him abilities such as the spin move. A brief cameo after Power Stars are collected shows Mario removing his cap. Upon removing it, the Luma exits his body as if to take a breath of fresh air.
8. Which of these will cause Mario to lose his bee suit?

Answer: All three of these

The bee suit is very useful where it is found. It gives Mario the ability to fly and cling to honeycomb. Mario gets the bee suit by collecting a mushroom with a striped bee-colored pattern. He can fly around shortly to reach necessary heights. The fact that water removes the bee suit can hinder Mario's ability in one boss fight.

In the fight, Mario must use the bee suit to fly over a malicious beetle, at which point he will ground pound it. Unfortunately, there is a disproportionately large puddle in the arena that Mario must do his best to avoid. Nintendo was generous enough to provide a bee suit mushroom in the arena, though.
9. If Mario enters the Loopdeeloop Galaxy via the Terrace Dome, he will find himself surfing on what?

Answer: Manta Ray

This Power Star challenge is titled "Surfing 101", and it is the only Star in the Loopdeeloop Galaxy. The penguins at the galaxy love to surf on rays, so they teach Mario how. With the help of Wii Remote motion capabilities, Mario surfs down a tricky course while the penguins cheer him on. If he gets a good enough time, he will receive a Power Star for his efforts.
10. How can one play as Luigi through the whole game?

Answer: Get all 120 stars and defeat Bowser again

After two Mario games ("Super Mario 64" and "Super Mario Sunshine") without Luigi as a playable character, Nintendo finally put Luigi back in. Luigi is rescued by Mario at some point in the game, but this does not allow the player to use him to play through the whole game. Mario must collect all 120 stars and ask Rosalina to let him battle Bowser again. If he defeats him, the player may play as Luigi.
