Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Tekken", the game that started it all! It was released on Sony's Playstation console in Japan in March 1995 and in the USA and Europe in November 1995, but when was it first released for the arcades?

Answer: December 9th, 1994

That was over 10 years ago! You can really see how the series has come along. I mean play a game of "Tekken" and then immediately play a game of "Tekken 5". Big difference no?

The series has seen many changes such as the addition of the sidestep in "Tekken 3" which made "Tekken" fully 3D.
2. Ever since the very first "Tekken" game, both of the Law's fighting style has been referred to as 'Martial Arts'. What is the correct name for their fighting style?

Answer: Jeet Kun Do

Jeet Kun Do is of course the fighting style created by the legend himself - Bruce Lee. Giving the laws the Jeet Kun Do style is very fitting considering that both of them are based off of Bruce Lee himself.

WATAAAAAAH!
3. The locations in the first "Tekken" game were different places from all over the world. there was a total of eleven stages in the game. They were King George Island, Stadium, Angkor Wat, Venezia, Acropolis, Monument Valley, Windermere, Chicago, Fiji and Kyoto. What was the last stage?

Answer: Szechwan

Each stage was very different. Who could forget the uber-creepy atmosphere of the Monument Valley or the excitement caused by the Chicago stage? Ya know I'm not really sure where the Stadium stage is set...
4. As you Kazuya fans out there might know, Kazuya sold his soul to the devil before the events of the very first King of Iron Fist Tournament in order to get his revenge against Heihachi. Devil Kazuya was a playable character in the Playstation version of "Tekken". How did you obtain him?

Answer: Beat eight stages in Galaga

If you did this correctly, then you would be able to play as Devil Kazuya! He was really just an alternate skin/costume for Kazuya. He had slightly longer hair, blue skin with black trunks, boots and gloves.

For the record, "Tekken 1" didn't even have a Survival mode! It only had Arcade mode, Versus mode and options mode.
5. As Marshall "powers up" in the intro to the first game, what color is the wall behind him?

Answer: Red

This part of the intro FMV was very Dragonball Z! Dragonball Z is my favorite anime by the way. The intro to "Tekken"'s 1 - 3 showed you all the main, non-unlockable characters. "Tekken Tag", "Tekken 4" and "Tekken 6" didn't show you all the characters, only a select few.

"Tekken 5" showed you two intro movies, played right after each other. The first one showed you Kazuya, Heihachi and Raven and the second one showed you all the other characters except Mokujin and Jin. Jin however was shown near the end of "Tekken Dark Resurrection"'s intro. Remember that the Jin shown in "Tekken 5"'s FMV was Devil Jin. Devil Jin and Jin Kazama are treated as two seperate characters in both games.

Older "Tekken" Jin fans will be/were happy to know that Devil Jin played almost exactly like "Tekken 3" and "Tekken Tag" Jin.
6. The next game in the series was the ever so popular "Tekken 2". The sequel had more characters, improved graphics and gameplay, more stages to fight in and an expanded soundtrack. It was released for the PSOne in Japan on March 29th 1996 and in the USA on August 25th 1996. In Europe it was released in 1996, but on which month?

Answer: October

"Tekken 2" was really well recieved by both critics and fans of the original "Tekken" alike. Did you know that it was the #1 American arcade game for a full 24 weeks? It also sold 250,000 copies on its first day of release which was a record at the time. It went on to sell 3,000,000 copies worldwide.

Well done that game!
7. What could you do to a character in "Tekken 2"?

Answer: Make them really big and fat

This was a laugh! You could turn your chosen character into a somewhat chibi-esque looking version of themselves if you pressed the [Select] button before a fight. You could also make them even bigger by pressing the [Select] button again before another fight! You should have seen the size of Yoshimitsu's sword (NO not in THAT sense!), it never damaged the opponent from far away though which was disappointing...
8. "Tekken 2" had an expanded number of characters including all the characters from the original "Tekken".

Answer: False

It may look like "Tekken 2" contained all the first game's characters but it in fact didn't! Jack was in "Tekken", but was replaced by Jack-2 in the sequel. The only Jack that made it to "Tekken 2" was Prototype Jack or P-Jack.
9. What famous Great Bell housed within the Tower can be seen in Prototype Jack's stage?

Answer: Big Ben

Prototype Jack's stage was titled the London Ruins and it looked like something from "Planet of the Apes" or something! In the background, buried under the ground, was Big Ben itself.
10. What was the name of Kazuya Mishima's mother?

Answer: Kazume Mishima

Kazume Mishima, sadly, died during childbirth. Interestingly enough, Kazume has only actually been seen in the "Tekken" anime movie. You can see her holding baby Kazuya in a picture contained within a locket.

Also, thats a major difference of the movie. She died while giving birth to Kazuya in the games, but can be seen alive, holding Kazuya in the locket's picture.
11. "Tekken 3" had an existing character in it as a playable character. This was of course the little orange dinosaur known as Gon. What was the name of the manga that Gon came from?

Answer: Gon

Gon was originally from a manga of the same name created by Masashi Tanaka. He said that he would never put words into "Gon" because he thought it would be very strange to have a little dinosaur talking. Masashi wanted to draw something that was more interesting than anything you could say in words.

Also, did you know that Gon only took 1 point of damage from True Ogre's fire breath attack?

Gon only appeared in "Tekken 3". It is unknown if his appearance was canonical or not.
12. "Tekken Dark Resurrection" gave each character what?

Answer: All of these

Yup, all the characters, sans Lili and Dragunov, gained more things. Their customization item lists were expanded giving you much more creative freedom to alter their appearance. For example, one of Lei's new items was the Beijing Festival Mask for his face.

Everyone got a few moves changed in their movesets, for example, Law's 'Dragon Storm' move (performed by pressing b+1, 2, 1) now knocked the opponent back instead of launching them into the air.

Lastly, everyone had the colors of their "Tekken 5" clothing altered. For example, Xiaoyu's costume was mainly pink, but in "Dark Resurrection" it was changed to orange.
13. During Hworang's ending in "Tekken 4", Jin and Hwoarang's fight is interupted by the Korean military. Jin knocks 2 guards away. Impressed, Hwoarang whistles. As he is whistling, what can we see on the sign behind him?

Answer: B1

Hwoarang's ending took place in the underground parking lot stage of the game. This ending was one of the more unique ones as it had a playable fight inserted into it. About halfway through, you fight Jin Kazama as Hwoarang. This was one of the few story modes that didn't have you fighting Heihachi Mishima at the final stage.
14. What room was Nina in during her "Tekken 4" ending?

Answer: 402

You can see this straight after Lei busts in and yells "FUREEEZE!" You see she was under contract to kill Steve Fox, but couldn't go through with it as she had just found out that Mr. Fox was her son. Its interesting to note that Steve's, Nina's and Lei's ending are all connected. Roughly the same ending plays out, but focusing on a different character each time. Also, all three endings have a different turnout.
15. "Tekken Advance" was the first and only "Tekken" game released on Nintendo's Game Boy Advance handheld console. Which of these characters was not featured in the game?

Answer: Lei Wulong

This was quite disappointing for me and Lei fans everywhere. Eddy Gordo was also left out of the game. Had these two characters been added you would have been able to play as all ten starting characters from "Tekken 3". Gun Jack and Heihachi Mishima took their places. To unlock Heihachi, you had to beat the game with all ten starting characters.
16. I'm playing "Tekken Dark Resurrection" and the character I'm using is Asuka Kazama. I hit my opponent by pressing the Triangle button. I can now juggle them.

Answer: True

This simple move is listed as the 'Rising Palm' in Asuka's move list. It is a quick upwards chop that launches the opponent upwards. From here I will be able to do a juggling combo.

Asuka is my favorite of the three new characters introduced in "Tekken 5". She's cute and is an excellent fighter.
17. How many characters did you start out with in "Tekken Tag" and who was the first character you unlocked?

Answer: 20, Kunimitsu

You started out with a whopping twenty characters! Kunimitsu was the very first character you unlocked, you unlocked more characters by completing the game's Arcade mode. Kunimitsu was of course a member of Yoshimitsu's Manji Clan, but she was kicked out by Yoshimitsu because she was stealing for herself.

She entered the 2nd King of Iron Fist Tournament to try and steal Yoshimitsu's powerful sword. Her last playable appearance was in "Tekken Tag". She also gained an extra outfit in this game that was not seen in any other "Tekken" game. It was a tight purple bodysuit with a golden mask that revealed her mouth and chin.
18. When was Marshall Law's first appearance in the series?

Answer: "Tekken"

In Yoshimitsu's ending, he rides on a horse past several poor people and gives them money. Marshall can be seen along with his wife and the three-year-old Forrest! Little Forrest was practicing with a small staff. This was also Mrs. Law's only appearance in a "Tekken" game. She was mentioned in Marshall's "Tekken 5" and "Tekken Dark Resurrection" prologue.

Also in Yoshimitsu's ending... take a look at the first guy's face (the one that runs across the screen). Isn't that just the scariest thing you've ever seen??
19. In the European demo of "Tekken 4", only two characters were available for you to play as. One of these characters was Christie Monteiro. Who was the other character?

Answer: Paul Phoenix

Quite disappointing really. Only two characters. You'd think they would have given you at least four. The demo also contained about four fights total before it reset and it had a small handful of stages from the game too.
20. In the popular British movie "Shaun of the Dead", Pete reminds Shaun of the "Time when we stayed up all night drinking apple schnapps and playing..." which Tekken game?

Answer: "Tekken 2"

Good lord, "Tekken" references are everywhere!

You don't actually see the trio playing the game, it is only mentioned by Pete. "Shaun of the Dead" went on to become one of the most successful British made movies of all time and its two stars (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost) have both starred in more films and TV shows together ever since.
21. How many markings are on Jin's body, not counting his arms, when he starts to go all devil in "Tekken 4"?

Answer: Eight

You can see this in his "Tekken 4" ending. Sadly however, the devil gene fully took over young Jin and now he is running the 6th King of Iron Fist Tournament.

Will he be saved...?

Also, notice how most of the cast has entered the 6th King of Iron Fist Tournament to either capture or kill Jin?
22. A common theme on most of Jin Kazama's outfits is a ____________ design. What is the missing word?

Answer: Flame

Look on all of Jin's outfits from his first appearence in "Tekken 3" and you will notice that most of them have a flame design on them. One such example is his primary outfit in "Tekken 3". It was black pants with a flame design on the right leg. This outfit (albeit with minor changes) returns in "Tekken 6".
23. Yoshimitsu has been playable in all "Tekken" games, as have Heihachi, Paul and Nina. This includes every game based off of "Tekken" as well.

Answer: False

Nina Williams had her own game called "Death by Degrees". Heihachi, Paul and Yoshimitsu were not playable in that game. However, you could use Yoshimitsu's sword (or a replica) so I'm told. Anna Williams, Nina's sister, was also playable in "Death by Degrees".

This makes Nina the only playable character in every single "Tekken" game and the game based off of "Tekken".

"Death by Degrees" was set before the very first King of Iron Fist Tournament.
24. What did they take away from the Law movelist in "Tekken 4", but bring back for "Tekken 5"?

Answer: The Triple Kick (3, 3, 3)

This felt so weird the first time and actually took me by surprise. I nearly lost the darn match because of it! Luckily however, this move was returned to Law's move list for "Tekken 5" and "Tekken Dark Resurrection".
25. Lemme just go to say... "Tekken 4"'s practice mode. I'll pick Marshall Law vs King. I'm just gonna leave the controller idle for a few minutes. What's gonna happen in a few minutes time?

Answer: Marshall will end up with his back facing King

I came across this whilst just leaving the controller idle whilst typing something up on the computer. Law's fighting stance made it so that he moved around quite a lot. Thought bubbles only appeared in "Tekken 2". The characters do not have special in game taunts each.

Thanks for taking the quiz fellow Tekkenite!
