Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When you first enter the Temple of Lightning, you are faced with three retractable lightning rods. In which order must you activate/deactivate them if you are to continue into the temple, and reach the Sorceror's Ring change point?

Answer: Right, Middle, Right, Left

The lightning always strikes the highest point, and the lightning rods are staggered, with the rightmost being the highest. You cannot approach the middle rod to turn it off, because it is activated, and will electrocute you. You must activate the right rod, so that the lightning hits that instead, then deactivate the middle rod. Once this has been done, you can deactivate the right rod, and activate the left, which is the lowest point.

When the thunder strikes the left rod, it will destroy a block, allowing you to change the function of the sorceror's ring.
2. How many of the chests in the Temple of Lightning contain EX Gems?

Answer: 3

You can dislodge a chest with an EX Gem Lv3 from the balcony where you shoot the blue blocks. A second chest containing an Ex Gem Lv2 can also be dislodged in the same area. Finally, a second EX Gem Lv3 can be found near the entrance to the Temple, if you destroy the red blocks.
3. One of the enemies you will encounter in the Temple of Lightning is the Lamia. Which of the following elements is the Lamia NOT weak against?

Answer: Fire

Lamiae are weak against water because they are a thunder based creature. Similarly, ice can cause considerable damage to thunder creatures. The Lamiae are also undead creatures, and therefore have an affinity with darkness, making them weak against light.

In many other RPGs, the "Final Fantasy" series for example, undead creatures are weak against fire, but this is not the case in "Tales Of Symphonia".
4. Which is the first colour of lightning you can create with the Sorceror's Ring, once you have changed its function?

Answer: Blue

You eventually gain the ability to shoot yellow lightning, then red lightning, but blue is the first colour you obtain. The blue blocks in the temple can only be detroyed with blue lightning, yellow blocks with yellow lightning, and red blocks with red lightning. The blocks conceal treasure, block your path, and keep Volt sealed in.
5. Near the entrance to the Temple, in the same area as the three lightning rods, there are three areas blocked off by the coloured blocks - one by red blocks, one by yellow, and one by blue. What treasure do you obtain if you destroy the yellow blocks?

Answer: Shining Star

The Silver Guard was concealed behind the blue blocks, the Ex Gem Lv3 is behind the red blocks, and the Thunder Sceptre is in one of the chests that are dislodged when you shoot the hanging blue blocks. The Shining Star is a kendama for Genis.
6. One of the rooms in the Temple has a series of yellow blocks in various patterns along the back wall. These blocks need to be destroyed in the correct order, so that a path can be made for the electricity to flow. How many possible paths are there?

Answer: 4

If you begin by destroying the first two blocks on the fourth row, then start the electricity, you can make a chest fall, which contains a Battle Cloak. The chest cannot be reached until the bridge is destroyed. This is not a particularly challenging puzzle; there are only a few blocks which can be destroyed, and even if you use trial and error, it should only take two or three attempts to get one of the correct paths.
7. In the same room, how is the bridge destroyed?

Answer: A boulder falls and crushes it

When you create the correct path for the electricity to flow, you allow a boulder to be released from high up in the room, which falls onto the bridge knocking it down. The bridge then becomes a ramp which allows you to enter the lower floor, and collect the chest, if you managed to make it fall.
8. When you finally unleash Volt, you have to do battle in order for Sheena to gain his allegiance. How much HP does Volt have (on normal difficulty)?

Answer: 24000

In my opinion, Volt was the toughest of the Summon Spirit battles (closely followed by Undine), partly because he has a high number of HP. Volt uses powerful lightning attacks, which can hit your whole party if you're not careful. He has no elemental weaknesses, not even to water, and takes only a tiny amount of damage from lightning.
9. Volt does not have a voice as such, and communicates with one member of the group, who then relays his message to the others. Who can understand Volt?

Answer: Raine

As Raine and Genis are half-elves, they are sensitive to mana levels. Volt communicated using the mana, and Raine could understand him and translated for the rest of the group. It is not clear whether or not Genis could also understand, as he declines to comment on the matter, but it may be safe to guess that Raine can understand better either because she is an adult, or because she is so intelligent.
10. Where in the Temple of Lightning do you have to return to in order to obtain Sheena's unique costume, and the title "Successor"?

Answer: Boss Arena - where you fought Volt

Chief Igaguri had been in a coma since Sheena failed to subdue Volt all those years ago. She returns to the area where she found Volt, and discovers a ghostly version of her grandfather, who has become accustomed to the insubstantial way of life. When Sheena convinces him to return, and returns herself, she is made new chief of Mizuho.
