Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In this custom game, there are two sides facing off against one another, with up to five players per side controlling heroes, units that gain experience and levels, have special skills, and can be augmented with items. Which two factions are fighting one another?

Answer: The Sentinel and the Scourge

The Sentinel are red, and their base is located in the lower left corner of the map, while the Scourge are green, and reside in the upper right. Hero colours for the sentinel are bright (yellow, purple, etc.), while Scourge colours are a little less vibrant (dark green, grey, etc.). The Sentinel are trying to protect the World Tree which sits at the back of their base, while the Scourge are defending the Frozen Throne. As of version 6.55, there are 93 unique heroes to choose from, and more are being added with newer versions.

The Alliance and Horde are the standard factions seen in the first two "Warcraft" titles, as well as "World of Warcraft". The UNSC is the human faction in the "Halo" serious, while the Covenant is the collection of aliens bent on the destruction of human kind. The Republic is the good side in the prequel "Star Wars" trilogy, who fight he CIS.
2. Apart from heroes, the two factions also send weaker units at each other at regular time intervals. What are these units called?

Answer: Creeps

Creeps are units that are sent along the lanes towards each other along the three lanes connecting the bases. For the Sentinel, the creeps are treant (melee), and the druid of the talon (ranged), while the Scourge have ghouls (melee), and necromancers (ranged). A new wave spawns every thirty seconds. At certain intervals, a siege creep will spawn with the wave, either a glaive thrower or a meat wagon, depending on the faction. Siege creeps are extremely effective at destroying buildings.

Creeps are generally the main source of gold and experience for heroes, especially in the early game when hero kills are not as common. It is possible to deny creeps, which involves killing creeps with low health to prevent enemies from receiving gold, and reducing the amount of experience gained by the kill. Towers can also be denied, but must be below 10% health. Towers provide a large sum of money when destroyed, and denying is always preferable.
3. Combat in "DotA" generally occurs along the lanes connecting the two bases. When in game, players use three letter shortened names for lane designation. Give one of these.

Answer: top

For short messages that allow faster communication, generally the terms "top", "mid" (middle), and "bot" (bottom) are used to indicate lane. When super creeps are turned on, a message will appear saying which lane the creep has spawned in, using "west", "middle", and "east".

The top lane is along the left side of the map, and along the top, while bottom goes along the bottom and along the right. Middle cuts through the middle, as its name implies, and is the shortest lane. When creeps spawn, they will meet at the half way point in a lane. In the case of top and bot, that is at the corner of the map. On top lane, the first Scourge tower is extremely close to the corner, and can provide an excellent advantage if the Sentinel wave pushes too far. The opposite is true for bot.
4. Heroes have three main attributes that points are put into when leveling up. Which of the following is not an attribute?

Answer: Vitality

All three attributes are important, and have different effects. Each level these stats are increased by a certain amount; the amount it is increased by can be seen by hovering your cursor over the image of the hero before selecting him/her. One skill shared by every hero is Attribute Bonus, which increases each attribute by 2 for every skill point spent on it. Various items increase one or more of these stats as well as adding other effects.
5. There are many items that can be purchased for your hero, and many more can be made by combining specific items. Where can you find a Demon Edge?

Answer: Leragas The Vile (Secret Shop)

There are four shops in the base where you can buy basic items, as well as the "secret shop" which is merely a shop outside of the base. There are two secret shops, one on the Sentinel side, and one on the Scourge side, though anyone can purchase items from either one.

There are also five recipe shops which sell recipe scrolls. These can combine basic items into more advanced items that only take up one slot in your inventory (you have six slots, total). Some items do not need the recipe scroll, and will automatically form once you have the prerequisites (i.e. Perseverance).
6. In the game, as a hero, you can pick up runes which will give you a temporary boost in some aspect or another (movement speed, invisibility, etc.). Where can you find these runes?

Answer: In the river

With the two bases being located in the lower left and upper right of the map, the map is essentially bisected into two halves. One Sentinel, with healthy trees and light colours, and one Scourge, with dead trees and dull colours. These two sides are separated by a river that runs from the upper right corner of the map down to the lower left, and is the fastest way to move between lanes. Creeps do not patrol these areas (unless they are chasing a hero), and there are no towers. Half way between the top lane, and the middle lane is one rune location, where a rune will periodically appear. There is another location half way between the middle lane and the bottom lane.

Green dots on the map represent neutral creeps, which can be killed for less gold/experience than enemy creeps, without the hassle of enemy heroes (unless they find you).

Off the top and bottom lanes, in the tress is a shop that does not sell unique items, but can be useful if you don't have to/want to travel back to your base.
7. While all heroes have points in each of the three attributes, one of them is the "primary attribute" for each hero. What is special about the primary attribute?

Answer: Your damage goes up for every point in it

All attributes are the same for each hero, but the primary attribute has the added effect of increasing your damage by one for every point it has. This means it is generally a good idea to buy items that increase your primary attribute, due to the added value.
8. Which of the following is NOT one of the effects of the Agility attribute?

Answer: Movement Speed

Each attribute has two effects. Strength increases your hit points and hit point regeneration. Agility increases your attack speed, and increases your armor by 1 for every seven points. Intelligence increases your mana stores, and your mana regeneration rate. Movement speed can only be affected by items, specifically Boots of Speed or one of its three superior forms (you can only use one of these), as well as Yasha (which can be upgraded into Sange and Yasha), and Eul's Scepter of Divinity.
9. At level six, every hero can put a skill point into a particularly powerful/useful spell or ability. What is the name of this level 6 spell?

Answer: Ultimate

Each hero gets three normal skills, an ultimate, and attribute bonus. You can put up to four skill points into each of the normal spells, three into your ultimate, and ten into the attribute bonus.

Ultimate spells are generally much more powerful/useful spells with long cooldowns, and are usually reserved for killing heroes (as opposed to creeps). There are exceptions to this, such as Bone Fletcher, who uses his ultimate to regenerate personal hit points instead of damaging enemies.

Critials are given by certain items and abilities, and provide a percent chance to do a "critical attack" which is a normal attack with a multiplier. For example, Mortred's ultimate, Coup de Grace, at level 3, grants a 15% chance to do 4 times normal damage.
10. On the minimap, there is a large red dot that corresponds to a particularly large, neutral creature. What is the name of this guy?

Answer: Roshan

Roshan is a large stone golem who, like all golems in "Warcraft III", is immune to spells. He has a lot of hit points (which regenerate fairly quickly), can deal impressive amounts of damage, and has a spell that can stun enemies for a few seconds. When defeated, everyone on the map is notified, and each player on the team of the person that defeated Roshan gets extra gold. Roshan also drops an item that cannot be created with a recipe, Aegis of the Immortal, which cannot be dropped once picked up. If the hero with Aegis is brought to 0 hit points, instead of dying and giving enemies gold/experience, he/she is reincarnated, and the Aegis disappears.

The incorrect answers are names of playable heroes.
