Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first song in the game is entitled "Slow Ride." Does the song have a guitar solo in it?

Answer: Yes

"Slow Ride" was released in 1975 by the English rock group Foghat. The "Guitar Hero" version goes for just under 4 minutes and contains a short guitar solo.

Interestingly, the original song goes for over 8 minutes and had to be cut down into a more conventional 3 minutes and 56 seconds for release as a single.
2. Tier 3 has the player shooting a music video in a film studio. Which of the following songs can NOT be found in Tier 3?

Answer: Kool Thing

Tier 3, titled "Making the Video", contains the songs "Miss Murder", "When you Were Young", "The Seeker" and "Lay Down". Those that completed enough of the songs in this tier were also given the opportunity to play an encore song, "Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones.

For an experienced player, Tier 3 comprises of some of the easiest songs in the game to play with 100% accuracy.
3. A band that is widely considered as the pioneer musical group for the punk rock genre, the Sex Pistols, have a song featured in tier 4: "European Invasion." Did the Sex Pistols re-record their featured song "Anarchy in the U.K." for the game?

Answer: Yes

Sex Pistols vocalist John Lydon, or "Johnny Rotten" as he was commonly known, wrote the song "Anarchy in the U.K." as an act of rebellion. This can be furthered by manager Malcolm McLaren who considered the song "a call to arms to the kids who believe that rock and roll was taken away from them. It's a statement of self rule, of ultimate independence."

In 2007, the members of the band who were still alive got together and re-recorded the song for the "Guitar Hero" game, due to the fact that the master recordings had been lost. A small documentary about the Sex Pistols can be unlocked in-game.
4. Tom Morello is the first "boss" you face off against in a one-on-one rock showdown.

Answer: True

Tom Morello was the guitarist for 70's rock band Rage Against the Machine. Morello was known for his unique sounds and an incredible level of talent on his guitar.

Morello features in "Guitar Hero III" as the first boss and an unlockable character. The boss battle occurs as an event following the player performing an encore piece "Bulls on Parade" by Rage Against the Machine in Tier 2.
5. Player iamchris4life was notably the first "Guitar Hero III" player to complete which Dragonforce song without a single mistake?

Answer: Through the Fire and Flames

The first "FC" or Full-combo of the song "Through the Fire and Flames" was achieved by player iamchris4life on June 4th 2008. Chris' outstanding achievement is commonly referred to and the video has reached mild internet fame, with his outcry of "That just [redacted] happened" becoming used as a common phrase in internet discussions.

"Through the Fire and Flames" was commonly recognized as the hardest song in "Guitar Hero" history. This, however, proved unlikely due to the sheer difficulty of certain songs in future games.
6. In "Guitar Hero III" there are two separate campaign modes for Single Player and Co-operative. The Single Player mode has 7 encore songs (one for each of the first 7 tiers) How many Co-operative exclusive songs are featured in the Co-operative game mode as Encores?

Answer: Six

In the co-operative mode, players can unlock 6 separate songs exclusive to that mode. These songs are generally songs less suited to the Single Player campaign. These include "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys and "Helicopter" by Bloc Party.
7. Players can purchase bonus songs in-game to play at any time they like. One such song is entitled "Impulse" Who wrote the song "Impulse?"

Answer: An Endless Sporadic

An Endless Sporadic is a band comprised of Zach Kamins and Andy Gentile. They describe themselves as art rock or progressive Rock and have written two songs featured in "Guitar Hero" games, one of which was "Impulse".

Andy Gentile works for Neversoft, the company that produced "Guitar Hero III".
8. American rock band Queens of the Stone Age had a song featured in "Guitar Hero III". The song is known for its odd strumming pattern and catchy rhythm. What is the song's name?

Answer: 3's & 7's

"3's & 7's" is the second song from Queens of the Stone Age's fourth studio album. The band describe both the song and album as "hard rock with elements of blues and grunge."

The song has also been featured in rival series "Rock Band" as downloadable content.
9. The final boss is a demon named Lou. Which familiar character is Lou?

Answer: Your band manager

Your band manager, Lou, turns out to be the devil in disguise, having tricked you by making you sign away your soul for a music contract. You confront him in a rock showdown playing the song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." This song is well known for also having a musical showdown between the devil and an underdog fiddle player.

The band manager disguise is done in mockery of the music scene, joking about how some musicians have to "sign away their souls" to obtain a contract.
10. How many four note chords are there in "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock"?

Answer: Zero

No four note chords are featured in "Guitar Hero III", as they only appeared with the release of "Guitar Hero: World Tour".

However, due to an appeal by the players, when the song "Raining Blood" was featured in the follow-up game "Guitar Hero: Smash Hits", the final note was a chord comprising of all five frets.
