Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A British archaeologist, a woman, I might add, Searching for some treasure that is sure to make her glad. She sometimes wields weapons, and might seem a bit unholy, But she shares some similarities with Angelina Jolie. Which video game character have I just described?

Answer: lara croft

Ah, Lara Croft, the pistol-wielding tough-girl who has long been the object of fantasies of teenage boys. Lara is the star of the "Tomb Raider" series of games. Lara is a British archaeologist who goes in search of treasure and lost artifacts hidden in the world.

The series has spawned a few feature films, starring the lovely Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft herself. That was probably the major giveaway clue in the rhyme.
2. A well-known adversary of a man in red and blue, Kidnapping a woman - a thing he shouldn't do! The fights against this bad guy are often large in scale, But the key to beating him is knowing his weakness is his tail! Which popular bad guy am I talking about?

Answer: Bowser

Yes, it's Bowser, the evil Koopa who constantly kidnaps Princess Peach, and Mario constantly rescues her from his evil clutches. But ol' Bowser hasn't always been a bad guy - he joins forces with Mario in several games, such as "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" and "Super Paper Mario".

His weakness is his tail, which is the key to defeating him in "Super Mario 64" and "Super Mario Galaxy". In the former, Mario must grab hold of his tail, swing him around, and throw him into an explosive, whereas in the latter, Mario must use his spin attack on Bowser's tail when it is on fire. I won't go into the specifics of it - I'll leave that for you to find out!
3. If you are like me, in that you are easily scared, Then if you play F.E.A.R, you really should be prepared. She could appear at any time, and give you a big fright. My advice is that you do not play this game at night. Which hauntingly frightful character have I described?

Answer: alma

I'll admit it - I'm a wuss. A huge wuss. So when I went to my mate's place, and found out he bought "F.E.A.R" and wanted to play it, well, you can imagine the lengths I went to try and persuade him not to play this game while I was there. Needless to say, he played it. I, however, kept my eyes locked on an object that was located somewhere other than the television screen. Ugh, I'm just shivering thinking about it. Anyway, "F.E.A.R" is a horror-theme FPS game that sees you controlling Point Man, an new induction into the First Encounter Assault Recon, who is investigating the Armacham Technology Corporation after reports of strange happenings, which seem to be centered around a malevolent force in the form of a little girl called Alma.

She haunts the facility, appearing at random points in the game: sometimes she might be just round a corner, looking at you, or she might suddenly appear on screen, and be burned into the back of your eyeballs so you see her every time you blink.

This is definitely the scariest game that I've come across.
4. Now we reach a nasty hag who's evil as can be, She longs to be young and pretty by kidnapping Tooty. She speaks in rhyme, like I do now, and doesn't really care, She's safe and sound (for now, at least) at the top of her lair. Who am I describing this time?

Answer: Gruntilda

This quiz isn't just about baddies, but I couldn't leave out Gruntilda Winkybunion, the sour old hag who serves as the primary antagonist in the "Banjo-Kazooie" series. She speaks in rhyme for the entire first game, but her sisters tell her not to in "Banjo-Tooie", but by "Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts", she's back to rhyming.

As I described above, Tooty, young and pretty, is Banjo's sister, and Grunty is old and ugly. Grunty kidnaps Tooty in the hopes of becoming young again and making Tooty ugly. Banjo and Kazooie thwart her, and she falls to her death in Spiral Mountain.
5. In a place where evil roams the world, a hero stands alone, Sometimes as a child, or sometimes fully grown. He uses bow and arrows; has his sword held in his hand, For this hero's journey will not end until he saves the land. Who might I be describing this time?

Answer: link

Yes, my fellow Hyruleans, it is Link, master of the sword, adept of the bow, and saviour of the land. Link serves as the protagonist in every "Legend of Zelda" adventure, and must overthrow the evil Ganondorf, the primary antagonist for most of the series. Each game is set in a specific point in time, and each incarnation of Link is not necessarily the same Link.

For example, in "Ocarina of Time", Link is a child (who later turns into an adult), whereas in "Twilight Princess", Link is a teenager.
6. He's blue and fast, racing past, collecting all those rings, His friends may help him on the way to complete other things. With slopes and ramps and lots of hills, he really is quite eager, But best of all, his spiky face is the mascot of Sega. Think you know who I'm describing now?

Answer: Sonic

Sonic the Hedgehog is the star of the video game series of the same name, and is also the mascot of Sega, the company that develops the games. Sonic is a blue hedgehog who can travel very fast, hence his name, by rolling in a ball. Sonic collects rings in each level.

The hedgehog has appeared in other games, particularly in the Nintendo Wii game "Super Smash Brothers Brawl", alongside Nintendo's unofficial mascot, Mario.
7. A little yellow creature that's as friendly as can be, But when fighting other creatures, it can be very deadly. A shocking mix of lightning speed and electricity, You'll be beating trainers left and right oh so easily. Which famous video game character have I described?

Answer: Pikachu

Pika-CHUUUU! Of course, this cry was made famous by the anime series, but Pikachu was featured in the "Pokemon" games from the very beginning. Pikachu is an Electric Pokemon, who can learn moves like Thunderbolt, and moves to increase Speed, which I alluded to in the rhyme. Pichu is the first evolution, Pikachu is the second, and Raichu is the third.

In the anime, Pikachu was featured as Ash Ketchum's faithful friend, choosing to travel by Ash's side, rather than inside a Pokeball.
8. A theoretical physicist who was thrust into the fray, Aliens and creatures roaming round all night and every day. With gun in hand, and gang in tow, he hasn't got much time, To rid the city of the threat, the menacing Combine. Which video game protagonist have I described?

Answer: Gordon Freeman

Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist for the Black Mesa corporation, is the main character in Valve's "Half-Life" series. Much like characters created by Nintendo, Freeman talks very little, which Valve say allows players to create their own perceptions of the character.

At points throughout the games, Freeman is visited by the mysterious G-Man whilst in an unconscious-like state. G-Man appears to help Freeman, but his true intentions are unclear, which adds to the mystery and complexity of the character.
9. There's no denying that this little fellow likes to eat, The length of his red tongue is something like two feet! He hatches from an egg when his block is hit from below, And he'll come to the aid of the man called Mario. Which popular character am I describing?

Answer: yoshi

Yoshi is a dinosaur who is almost as popular as the man who rides him. Different coloured Yoshis can be found in levels containing him, though traditionally the first Yoshi is green. His long red tongue can suck up fruit and enemies from a distance. Yoshi has featured in a number of games, like the "Mario Kart" and "Super Smash Bros." series, and also has his own games, like "Yoshi's Story".
10. The final character in this quiz appears quite a lot, But that depends mainly on the console you have got. It could be a boy or girl or black or white or short or tall, You decide what it looks like on a Wii channel. I think it's clear by now that you know who this person is, So please type in its name below to finish off this quiz! What is the name of the character I described?

Answer: mii

Miis are avatars of players created in the Mii Channel on the Wii console. The Miis are primarily used in save files for various games, but can feature as cameos in games too. For example, in "Mario Kart Wii", you may see Miis stored on your console driving cars in the parking lot of the Coconut Mall track. Miis can be created to look like practically anyone, using a wide variety of facial features and hair. You can also choose the size, birthday, favourite colour and name of the Mii too.
