Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In this relatively different game, players simulate various tasks related to cooking and culinary arts. Its subtitle is "Cook Off", but what series is it from?

Answer: Cooking Mama

"Cooking Mama: Cook Off" was released March 20, 2007 in North America. Following the success and awards garnered by the first title in this unique series (simply known as "Cooking Mama"), Nintendo brought the title to the Wii, allowing players to implement the Wii Remote's wireless technology in creating various dishes from around the world.

Although less recipes are featured in "Cook Off", the combinations of ingredients and the tasks performed make up for the lost ground. As well, players are able to make recipes for various characters from around the world and win different decorations for their kitchens as a result. Due to the popularity of both games, "Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends" was released on the Nintendo DS.
2. In the game "Kororinpa", what object do players control?

Answer: Marbles

"Kororinpa: Marble Mania" was released in March 2007, and while it wasn't a very popular game, it had its charms. The players controlled marbles which were movable when a Wii Remote tilted the playing field. In order to progress through the game, levels had to be completed in stages, and had to be unlocked in somewhat chronological order.

In each level, players could unlock new marbles to use, each with their own pros and cons. For example, a gas tank marble could be fast, but it won't bounce very high when you flick the Wii Remote. Marbles vary between animals (cats, penguins, etc.) to fruits (watermelons) to inanimate objects and real marbles.

There are forty-five individual levels, but the number doubles when you unlock all of them, and unlock Mirror Mode.
3. This flight simulator game (the first for the system along with "Blazing Angels") was released by Hudson Soft in March 2007. What is its title?

Answer: Wing Island

Although the game wasn't popular in the eyes of the critics, it was one of the few games released earlier in the system's run that took players into the cockpit. On the same day, March 20, 2007, "Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII" was released by Ubisoft. "Wing Island", however, is not a war flight-sim.

Instead of shooting down enemy planes, the player pops balloons or delivers packages around the island. As well, the plane can't crash. This obscure concept contributed to its unpopularity, although the fact that it was easy to play was a plus.
4. This "Medal of Honor" game, released in late March '07, was the tenth installment in the series, and the first to appear on the Wii. Which one is it?

Answer: Vanguard

Taking players into World War II, once again, "Vanguard" was released after "Call of Duty 4" on the Wii. Although it wasn't as popular as other games, "Medal of Honor" stood as one of the early war games of the system, and the point-and-shoot idea created by the Wii remote allowed it to be authentic on more levels than on other systems. "Vanguard" was the tenth title in the long-running series, but it wouldn't end there. "Medal of Honor: Heroes 2" was released in November of the same year, and it was somewhat of an exclusive (with another version on the handheld PSP system). "Heroes 2" garnered a higher overall score, though. "Vanguard" also appeared on the PS2.
5. The first "Prince of Persia" game for the Wii, "Rival Swords", was a re-release of which earlier title?

Answer: "The Two Thrones"

Described as a blend between the lighter "Sands of Time" and the darker "Warrior Within", "Rival Swords" and "Two Thrones" took the "Prince of Persia" to the third of its "Sands of Time" series, in which the Prince has altered the future by affecting the past.

He must now retread his ground to stop the Vizier, who has gained new power. This game in the series was released on Wii in April 2007, though it arrived on the shelves for PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and PC in December 2005. The "Prince of Persia" series began on the NES and SNES (among other systems) in 1989.
6. What third game in the "Paper Mario" series was released on the Wii in April 2007?

Answer: Super Paper Mario

"Super Paper Mario" was a slight departure from the earlier "Paper Mario" games ("64" and "Thousand Year Door"), which were prominently turn-based RPGs. This game, on the other hand, followed more of an adventure, taking the player through levels, stages, and worlds similar to the original Mario games.

Although the game still follows a storyline, makes use of sidekicks, and has numerous moves, the battle system has changed to mimic earlier platforming titles. The game was one of the more popular titles in early 2007, and gained positive reviews all around. Shortly after its release, "Paper Mario (N64)" was made available on the Wii Shop Channel.
7. Blooper became a playable character for the first time in this Mario title, the first in the series to be released on the Wii. Which game is it?

Answer: Mario Party 8

Although it's normally a manageable enemy in platformer "Mario" games, Blooper switched sides to fight for the super star in "Mario Party 8", the first Wii "Mario Party" title, released in May 2007. The new game also allowed for Bowser and Hammer Bros. to be added to the roster while Donkey Kong continues to be absent from the playable characters list along with Koopa Kid. Because of the freedom created by the Wii Remote, the minigames featured are different from previous installments.

These are similar to the mini-games featured in "Warioware: Smooth Moves".

It took another three months before the release of the game ended in the UK (due to a recall).
8. What "Mortal Kombat" game was released on the Wii in May 2007?

Answer: Armageddon

This "Mortal Kombat" game, the first on the Wii, had the largest roster to date with sixty-two combatants and one unlockable character, found exclusively in the Wii copy of the game (Khameleon). The game was praised for its Konquest mode, which allowed players to unlock features and characters.

The game's popularity led it to win the award for 'Best Fighting Game' in 2006 from Spike TV. The game was also met with more praise than its predecessor, "Mortal Komabat: Deception", which appeared on Gamecube (along with other systems) despite the fact that it featured many similar options in terms of gameplay.
9. What is the North American name of the game known in Japan as "Tamagotchi's Sparkling President"?

Answer: Tamagotchi: Party On!

"Tamagotchi: Party On!" was released early in Japan's Wii game roster, but didn't get sent to North America for over half a year after its initial launch. Similarly to "Mario Party", "Party On!" consists of various mini-games that make use of the Wii Remote and its motion sensitivity. Coincidentally, "Tamagotchi: Corner Shop" games have been appearing on Nintendo systems since 2006, and a "Tamagotchi" game was released for the Game Boy at the same time as the first "Tamagotchi" release in 1996. "Party On!" was released around the same time as "Tamagotchi Connection v. 4.5", though there is little connection between them.
10. Taking the 'Wii Degree', what gaming series first arrived on Wii in June 2007?

Answer: Big Brain Academy

"Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree" was well-received, selling two million copies in 2007. The earlier-released DS game, "Big Brain Academy", on the other hand, had sold 4.5 million copies by that point in time, and had been release a year earlier. The game was designed to test mental functions, and features plenty of games (single and multiplayer) to get the brain working.

The game uses Miis heavily, and connects to players around the world "My Word Coach" and "Geometry Wars" later had versions released on the Wii, but neither were as popular as "Big Brain Academy".
