Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Your reservations have been made and you notice that there is a piece of equipment included with your itinerary. What is this device included with the "Wii Sports Resort"?

Answer: Wii MotionPlus

The Wii MotionPlus, which attaches to the bottom of your Wii remote controller, provides more sensitivity than the Wii-mote and translates your movements more precisely to the game. This means that when you play games like bowling or table tennis, you can add spin to the ball. You do periodically have to pause to calibrate the controller, but it takes only a moment and the accuracy is well worth the time.
2. A plane delivers you to your island destination, but instead of landing, you're invited to skydive (at least you don't have to carry your luggage with you). What is the name of the island where the "Wii Sports Resort" is located?

Answer: Wuhu Island

Yes, when you first begin to play, you're encouraged to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. But that's OK, it'll prepare you for later. Island Flyover in Air Sports affords you an excellent view of Wuhu Island and allows you to see where the various events are held. You can also see points of interest, such as Summerstone Castle, the Pirate's Eye and Wind Orchard (where turbines provide clean power for the island).

The golf courses are located on the nearby Wedge Island, but the other smaller islands are uninhabited.
3. You are introduced to the twelve activities available to you at the "Wii Sports Resort". Which of these is NOT one of them?

Answer: Boxing

In addition to Wakeboarding, Frisbee and Bowling, your activities also consist of Swordplay, Canoeing, Power Cruising, Golf, Archery, Air Sports, Basketball, Cycling and Table Tennis. In each sport there are various modes or skill levels, and you can also earn stamps for different achievements. But where are the colorful drinks with the little umbrellas?
4. After a little one-on-one in the Duel mode of Swordplay, you feel you're ready to take on multiple foes. What do you need to accomplish to unlock the Showdown mode?

Answer: Play in Speed Slice mode once

When you first start, Duel mode is the only one unlocked. To unlock Speed Slice mode, you need to play Duel once. In Speed Slice mode, a sensei tosses various objects in the air which land in front of you and your opponent. Whichever one of you slices your object first (in the direction indicated by an arrow on the object) wins the point.

These objects are all giant sized and include things like bread, cake, candles, sushi rolls and melons. Playing in this mode once will unlock Showdown mode, where you have to face teams of opponents.
5. You want to do some sightseeing, so you use Island Flyover mode, under Air Sports. You're not quite used to flying your own plane, and end up crashing. What happens when you crash your plane?

Answer: Your Mii ejects safely with a parachute, and then your flying resumes.

Island Flyover seems like it would be boring, but is actually quite interesting. You control your Mii's plane by holding the Wii-mote like a paper airplane. During Island Flyover, your goal is to collect 'i' points (points of interest) in order to unlock other features, and to earn a stamp.

While hitting most any object at full speed will cause your plane to crash, you can also bring your plane down by using the B button to cut your engine. Your Mii will eject and his/her parachute will deploy, then your flying will resume at about the same place you were before you crashed. Air Sports also has Skydiving and Dogfight.
6. Since it's hot out, you decide to stay in and enjoy some Bowling. You do really well and reach the Pro level, allowing you to obtain a different bowling ball. What does this ball have on it?

Answer: Stripes

The three modes in Bowling are Standard Game, 100-Pin Bowling and Spin Control. Once you reach Pro level in any mode (1000 points), you can use the ball with stars on it in that mode, or any mode where you've obtained Pro level. Standard is a ten-pin game, 100-Pin actually uses 100 pins in each frame, and with Spin Control, you have to maneuver your ball around obstacles. You can change the color of your bowling ball without having to reach Pro level.
7. Having mastered the Beginner level in Archery, you decide to try the Intermediate level. What difficulty is added between the Beginner and Intermediate levels?

Answer: You shoot at a moving target.

Each difficulty level has four stages. Beginner distances are ten, fifteen, twenty-five and thirty-five yards with a stable target, during the day. When you switch to Intermediate, the distances are each five yards greater than Beginner, the targets move from side to side, and you're playing at sunset. Expert level again increases the distances by five yards each, some of the targets have obstacles which they pass behind, and you're playing at night. Don't forget to look for the hidden targets in each stage of each level of Archery.
8. It's a quiet morning and you're Canoeing in Free Practice mode on the lake. Although you're relaxing, you can also earn a stamp here. What do you need to accomplish to receive the stamp?

Answer: Collect ducklings and return them to their mother.

There are ten stray ducklings in the practice area. All you have to do once you find them is paddle close to them and they will follow you. Deliver them to their mother, complete the speed challenge and you will earn the Ducks in a Row stamp.
9. You're on fire in Table Tennis (not literally), and the Return Challenge mode is unlocked. Your goal in Return Challenge is to simply return serves. After ten successful returns, items begin to appear on the other side of the table, offering you more points if you hit them. What are these items?

Answer: Soda pop cans

In Match mode, you can play either a six-point or an eleven-point game. In Return Challenge, you merely have to continue returning serves as long as you can. After ten consecutive returned balls, a soda can will appear on the table. If you hit the can, knocking it off of the table, you receive an extra three points.
10. During a race in Cycling, your stamina meter is displayed as three hearts on the screen. What happens if you lose all three stamina hearts during a race?

Answer: Your Mii has to stop and drink fluid to re-energize.

Maintaining a speed which will help you gain on the competitors, yet not tire out your Mii, is tricky in Cycling. If you pedal too fast for too long, your Mii begins sweating and you're warned that you're running out of breath. If you do deplete all three hearts, your Mii will need to stop for a moment and drink some fluid before the hearts come back up and he can continue.
