Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these zones does not contain a portal to the Blasted Lands?

Answer: Tanaris

Portals to the Blasted Lands can be found all over the Azeroth map with several in every continent. All you really need to do is head to the nearest large city of any faction and find the mage and portal trainers. Here, players will be able to jump into a portal to appear directly in front of the Dark Portal to Outlands.

In order to teleport yourself, you'll need to be level 58, otherwise you'll need to take a long walk there from your closest city (Darkshire for Alliance and Stonard for Horde).
2. Only one town can be found in this zone (and it's for Alliance players). What is its name?

Answer: Nethergarde Keep

The closest town to the Dark Portal, Nethergarde Keep is the nearest that Alliance players will get in terms of flightpath to the Outlands without actually being there. The closest Horde town is Stonard though it's not in Blasted Lands. Here, players can partake in all of their quests for the zone, trade, and train.

While it doesn't contain as many amenities as your average large city (ie. Stormwind) it is still a welcome town that should accommodate needs this far into your journey. Nethergarde Keep is in the northeast corner of the zone.
3. Do the Blasted Lands touch the coast of the continent?

Answer: No

Cliffs actually block off the entire zone from the nearby Forbidden Sea, so players won't be able to swim around a coast or reach other zones via the water. Blasted Lands doesn't contain any significant body of water in fact, so players planning to up their Fishing profession won't find solace in the dusty landscape provided in this corner of the map. Even without coastline, players are unable to climb the cliffs to reach the sea, enclosing characters into this barren and canyon-heavy zone.
4. Archmage Allistarj leads what forces in Serpent's Coil?

Answer: Shadowsworn

Archmage Allistarj is an elite level 58 character who rests in the hollowed-out remains of Serpent's Coil, a small cave system slightly to the south of Nethergarde Keep along the cliff walls. This mage is demonic and fairly strong for high-level original "World of Warcraft" players.

The Shadowsworn forces found here are usually around level 52 and 53 while higher-ranking minions of Allistarj, known as Servants of Allistarj, are level 55 for the most part. The deeper you delve into the cave, the worse they get.
5. Rise of the Defiler is home to what demon overlord?

Answer: Razelikh

Razelikh the Defiler, a level 60 elite, is an example of a high-end elite boss in the original "World of Warcraft". This creature, a demonic dreadlord, is found at the end of an extensive quest chain to his inevitable battle. To reach Razelikh at the top, you need to use a specific amulet and one of the Runes of the Defiler at the base of his mountain to teleport (these runes are purple and on the ground). Rise of the Defiler is found in the center of the zone; if you head south on the main path it'll be on your right.
6. Which of these contains lower level monsters?

Answer: Dreadmaul Hold

Dreadmaul Hold, found in the northwest corner of the zone, is a Dreadmaul Ogre compound for lumbering Ogres in the mid-to-high level 40s. This is typically regarded as the easier of the enemies in the zone- as you make your way south towards the Dark Portal, you're likely to get into more trouble. Dreadmaul Post is slightly south of the Rise of the Defiler.

This cave system is home to similar Ogres though at higher levels (53/54). Both areas are visited for quests from Nethergarde Keep, but both are just far enough off the beaten path so as to be avoidable for passers-by.
7. The Tainted Scar contains enemies above level 60.

Answer: True

Not only are the enemies of the Tainted Scar above level 60, but they're elite! Any players of the original "World of Warcraft" would find it difficult to kill these unique Felguard creatures solo, but considering the nearby expansion opportunities, they shouldn't be a problem for more advanced characters.

The Tainted Scar is a large area spanning most of the western half of the Blasted Lands. This area is noticeably different from the rest of the zone. While Blasted Lands is barren and orangeish-brown, the Tainted Scar is a discouraging grey.
8. The Dark Portal takes players to what "Burning Crusade" zone?

Answer: Hellfire Peninsula

Players can make their way into the Dark Portal at almost any point in the game though there used to be a level requirement of 58 before players reached the Outlands of their own accord. Once players walk through the swirling, green portal of doom, they'll arrive at the Stair of Destiny and the Legion Front on the eastern edge of the Outlands and Hellfire Peninsula.

Here, the monsters will likely be too difficult for new arrivals to beat, so flightpaths will open up to the nearest towns: Honor Hold for Alliance and Thrallmar for Horde.
9. What is the only zone to directly connect to the Blasted Lands?

Answer: Swamp of Sorrows

The Swamp of Sorrows can be found directly to the north of the Blasted Lands, and the path leading between them stretches north from Stonard all the way down to the Tainted Scar and the Dark Portal. While the Blasted Lands also border Stranglethorn Vale to the west (and possibly Deadwind Pass to the northwest) neither of these directly connect via footpath (or offroad venture).

This is due in part to the location- Blasted Lands is down in the corner of the Eastern Kingdoms map.
10. Are there any instance dungeons to be found in the Blasted Lands?

Answer: No

While Blasted Lands is important for players, there are no instance dungeons to be accessed from within its borders. Instead, players can visit the Temple of Atal'Hakkar (The Sunken Temple) up north in the Swamp of Sorrows or Karazhan in the nearby Deadwind Pass if they so decide to take on a dungeon.

While the Temple of Atal'Hakkar is for players from 45-55 and is built for five-man groups, Karazhan is a level 70 raid instance from the "Burning Crusade" expansion pack which, if you want to go through the Dark Portal, you're going to need anyways.
