Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What year was JROTC founded in?

Answer: 1916

It was founded by the National Defense Act of 1916. In 1916, in the midst of WWI, the government needed more troops to fight the war over in Europe. To do this, they enacted the program to train cadets into soldiers.
2. In Army JROTC, what does the term "SAI" stand for?

Answer: Senior Army Instructor

SAI stands for Senior Army Instructor, and the SAI is usually, most of the times an officer. The term changes within each separate branch (Marines, Navy, Air Force), but are generally the same.
3. In JROTC, what is the highest rank any cadet can achieve?

Answer: Colonel

The highest rank anyone can achieve is Colonel, but most schools, including my own, it is Lieutenant Colonel. The ranking system is similar to that of the actual Army, but with a few differences. In the Army, they have the ranks of Specialist, and the Warrant Officer Ranks, in JROTC, we only have the basic enlisted ranks, and the 6 lowest Officer Ranks (Lieutenants to Colonel).
4. Relating to Marksmanship (Air Rifle Team), what is the highest total score a cadet can achieve?

Answer: 300

In air rifle, you fire 3 positions, prone, kneeling, and standing. In each position, you fire 10 pellets into 10 targets, and the maximum point value in each target is 10 points. So, 10x10=100, and 100x= 300/
5. According to the ranks, which is highest: a MSG, 2LT, CPT, OR PVT?

Answer: CPT

CPT is the abbreviation for Captain, 2LT is 2nd Lieutenant, MSG is Master Sergeant, and PVT is everyone's favorite, Private. These same abbreviations are used in the Army. They all have different responsibilities, but ultimately, they all must work together to accomplish the mission.
6. How is a military map read?

Answer: Rightward and Up

Its pretty self explanatory. You would start at the lower left corner of the map, and find your way by going right to the nearest coordinate, and then going up to the coordinate. This is not only true for JROTC maps, but for all military maps.
7. In CADET ranks, what is the rank of Major symbolized as?

Answer: 1 Diamond

The question asks for the rank in cadet terms, so instantly you can get rid of gold and silver wreath, because they are the actual army ranks of Major and Lieutenant Colonel, respectively. 2 diamonds refer to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in Cadet ranks.
8. How many ranks are there total in the entire JROTC program?

Answer: 17

The ranks are modeled after the Army ranks. JROTC doesnt include the ranks of Specialist, and the general ranks, but you also include the Private E-1 rank, which is no insignia.
9. Out of these four positions, which is the highest position? In other words, which of these four positions has the most authority?

Answer: Company Commander

In a company, these are the highest ranks that people can obtain, but Company Commanders are generally Captains, the XOs are generally First Lieutenants, 1SG are First Sergeants, and Platoon Leaders are generally Second Lieutenants.
10. In a military organization, there is a group of people that have different jobs that aid the commander in their job to make it easier. This is called the Staff. In this staff, generally how many positions are there? (Ex. S-1, S-2, etc.)

Answer: 5

In most military organizations, there are 5 staff elements. They are the S1, S2, S3, S4, and S5. All of them have different jobs, and they all help the commander in their job of successfully doing their job.
