The Australian Navy has been awarded a single Victoria Cross. This was awarded posthumously (and rather belatedly) to Edward "Teddy" Sheean in August 2020 for actions on HMAS Armidale during the Second World War, following a long-running campaign. Five members have however been awarded the George Cross "for acts of great heroism of the most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme danger".
