Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Leaving Sioux Falls we soon come to the turnoff to a South Dakota city that shares its name with both a city in China and the city in Ohio that is home to the (American) Football Hall of Fame. What city is this?

Answer: Canton

Canton, SD got its name because early residents believed the town was directly opposite Canton China on the other side of the earth.
2. Interstate 29 passes through the fourth largest city in Iowa. This city is named for an Indian tribe. What city is this?

Answer: Sioux City

Sioux City is the home town for advice columnists Ann Landers and Abigail Van Buren, Jerry Mathers who played Beaver on the TV show "Leave it to Beaver," and Fred Grandy who played Gopher on "Love Boat" and later became a U.S. Congressman.
3. About 50 miles into Iowa is a state park named after a famous duo of explorers. What is the name of this state park?

Answer: Lewis and Clark

Meriwether Lewis and William Clark passed through the Sioux City area with their expedition in 1804. The expedition was undertaken to explore the country to the Pacific Ocean. They started at the mouth of the DuBois River in Illinois and reached the Pacific at Cape Disappointment, Oregon a year and a half later.

Cape Disappointment is on the northern headland of the Columbia river, and is now in Washington, not Oregon.
4. At the Missouri Valley/Blaine turnoff there sits a truck stop with a very uniquely shaped water tower. The tower resembles something normally found at a truck stop. What shape is the water tower at Sapp Brothers? (Hint: the scientific name of what this item is made from is Coffea arabica.)

Answer: coffee pot

Although their truck stops are centered around their home base of Omaha, Sapp Brothers has 16 truck stops altogether from Clearfield, PA to Salt Lake City, UT. Most of the stops are along Interstate 80 with only one along Interstate 29. The red and white coffee pot-shaped tower is a real eye-catcher from the highway.
5. What major river, that shares its name with a state, forms the border between Nebraska and Iowa?

Answer: Missouri

The Missouri River begins in Montana and runs over 2300 miles to the confluence with the Mississippi. Answer: Omaha

The Omaha Steak Company has been in business since 1917. They sell steaks (obviously), chicken, seafood, pork, veal, pastas, appetizers, desserts, sauces, seasonings, and even pet treats. Although they have some retail outlets, the bulk of their business is through mail order and online sales. Omaha Steak also supplies restaurants.

Answer: corn

According to the Corn Refiners Organization, Iowa traditionally leads all states in both corn production and corn acres. In 2004 Iowa contained 17% of the total U.S. acres planted in corn and produced 2,244,400,000 bushels of corn for 19% of the U.S. total. And that ain't no hay.
8. About fifty miles from Kansas City is a city named after the foster father of Jesus. Which city is this?
