Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is not a derivation of F-16?

Answer: F-16G

F-16DG is another name for F-16 Block 42. F-16N was US Navy's F-16C. The F-16XL is a radically different version of the standard F-16. The most obvious design change is the 'Cranked-arrow' double delta wing. It never entered production and only 2 prototypes were built. NASA uses F-16XL for test work.
2. What is the ship name for CV-67?

Answer: John F. Kennedy

One of the few US Navy aircraft carriers not nuclear powered. The other two being the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Constellation.
3. How many hellfires can an Apache helicopter carry?

Answer: 16

The only helicopter in the US Army that can carry that many. AH-1 Cobra can carry 8. The new RAH-66 Comanche can carry 6.
4. What is the main difference between AGM-65D and AGM-65G?

Answer: Warhead size

AGM-65D: 125lbs/IR/Air Force
AGM-65E: 125lbs/laser/Marine
AGM-65F: 300lbs/IR/Navy
AGM-65G: 300lbs/IR/Air Force
5. USS Seawolf and USS Connecticut were built and first homeported in what city?

Answer: Groton (New London), CT

Norfolk and San Diego are the largest Navy bases on the east and west coast respectively. DoD announced in 2006 all the Seawolf class submarines will homeport in Bangor.
6. What does the first 'N' in the acronym 'LANTIRN' stand for?

Answer: Navigation

LANTIRN stands for 'Low Attitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night'.
The LANTIRN system consists of 2 pods -- one for navigation; the other for targeting. It is the survival tool for F-16s and F-15s at night.
7. What is the company that makes the MP5?

Answer: H & K

US companies dominate the defense and weapon industries. But firearms are the exception. H&K is German; SIG is Swiss; Beretta is Italian. Beretta produces the M9 pistol, and FN Herstal, a Belgian company, produces the M249 SAW -- both used by US Army.
8. One of the F-4's missions was to attack enemy radar sites. They carried anti-radar missiles such as HARM. What were these F-4's missions called?

Answer: Wild Weasel

After the F-4 was decommisioned, the US Air Force does not have a specialized plane to carry out wild weasel missions anymore. F-16, equipped with HTS pod, is the replacement, but it does not have the kind of ability that F-4 used to have.
9. Equipped with stinger missiles, this modified M2/M3 is called M6 ______?

Answer: Linebacker

Linebackers tackle opponent RBs so they can't reach the secondary -- so do the M6s, except that opponent RBs are actually enemy aircrafts.
10. The famous aerobatic manuever done by the SU-27 is called Pugachev's _____?

Answer: cobra

This amazing maneuver is done with the plane's nose pointing vertically towards the sky while flying horizontally -- just like an attacking cobra.
