Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. President Kennedy made many enemies with the 'Bay of Pigs' disaster. What unsuccessful plan did this include?

Answer: A plan to invade Cuba

The Bay of Pigs was a fiasco. Kennedy inherited certain plans that were made during the Eisenhower administration for the invasion of Cuba. Early in JFK's presidency, the plan went forward - but failed when JFK did not provide air support. The entire affair made many enemies for JFK.
2. Following the Bay of Pigs, JFK threatened to 'splinter' this organization 'into a million pieces'. Which organization was this?

Answer: CIA

JFK blamed the CIA for the Bay of Pigs. He fired Director Allen Dulles (who later served on the Warren Commission).
3. Who was the alleged head of organized crime in New Orleans and Dallas at the time of JFK's assassination?

Answer: Carlos Marcello

All were alleged to be key players in organized crime at that time.
4. Who was the police officer that was allegedly killed by Oswald at the time of the assassination?

Answer: JD Tippitt

It's unclear if Oswald committed the murder (or what the motive may have been if he was the murderer).
5. After being apprehended, what did Oswald state?

Answer: He had done nothing - he was only a 'patsy'

Oswald proclaimed his innocence.
6. There has been speculation about the role of this man in the assassination: he hated John (and Robert) Kennedy, and his career would have probably ended if Kennedy had remained president. Who was he?

Answer: J Edgar Hoover

Hoover hated the Kennedys - and knew that JFK (if re-elected) would force him into retirement.
7. According to conspiracy theorists, which of the following had antagonism toward John F Kennedy that could have provided a motive for assassination?

Answer: All of them

It is sometimes argued that Kennedy had many enemies. The Cuban government was disgusted with him after the Bay of Pigs - as was the CIA. Organized crime felt that he had betrayed them: they helped with his election and then became victims of a 'war on crime'. Right wing people didn't believe that he was tough enough on communism, etc.
8. Who was the person of eventual prominence who served on the Warren Commission?

Answer: Gerald Ford

It was Ford. Rusk and McNamara were in JFK's Cabinet.
9. An early critic of the findings of the Commission was Mark Lane. What did he write?

Answer: Rush to Judgment

'Assassins' was Garrison's book. 'Fair Play' was the name of the brochures distributed by Oswald prior to the assassination.
10. The House Select Committee on Assassination met in 1979. What did they conclude?

Answer: There had been a conspiracy that included more than one gunman

The HSCA concluded that there were at least two gunmen involved (and, hence, a conspiracy).
