1. Which of these presidents, like Barack Obama, graduated from Harvard Law School?

Answer: Rutherford B Hayes

Hayes is the only Harvard Law graduate, graduating in January 1845. The degree served him as well, as a Congressman and Governor of Ohio before he went to the White House. Clinton and Ford both attended Yale Law School. FDR did his undergraduate work at Harvard, but attended Columbia Law School.
Obama was an outstanding student at Harvard, and named editor of the Law Review.
2. Which of these presidents, like Barack Obama, practiced law in the state of Illinois?

Answer: Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln practiced law in Springfield, in an office directly across from the State Capitol building. Lincoln was quite successful as an attorney, serving in the State legislature (1834-42) and US Congress (1847-49). Like Obama, Lincoln questioned the legitimacy of a war started under questionable circumstances.
Grant lived in Illinois, but was not an attorney. Harrison was a lawyer, but practiced in Indiana. Ford was an attorney in Michigan. Much of Obama's legal work in the 1990s was for non-profit organizations; he also taught Constitutional Law.

Obama was the third sitting Senator to become president, after Harding and Kennedy. Truman, Johnson and Nixon all served in the Senate, but all left to become Vice President. Harding was from Ohio, Kennedy was from Massachusetts.
Obama was elected to the Senate from Illinois in 2004; when he left, his replacement was Roland Burris.
