In 1914 the Morton Salt Company added the umbrella girl to the slogan. The slogan was inspired by the proverb "It never rains, but it pours." The umbrella girl has seen several modifications over the years, but the canister of salt always pours!

In 1892, when he believed that the perfect blend had been found, he offered twenty pounds to the food buyer of the Maxwell House Hotel. Responding to the hotel customers, that became the exclusive coffee for the hotel.
