1. Who was the Argentinian President during the Falklands War?

Answer: Leopoldo Galtieri

All of those mentioned were Argentinian Presidents during the 1970s and 80s. Videla served from 1976-81, and was succeeded for a few months by Viola during 1981 before the latter was overthrown in a military coup. Leader of the coup was Lt Gen Galtieri, who himself led the military Junta from December 1981 to June 1982.

The Falklands War began in April 1982 when Argentinian forces invaded and occupied the islands. They surrendered to British forces in June 1982 and Galtieri was replaced or ousted from office by Bignone, who served until December 1983.

Jan Smuts was Prime Minister from 1939-1948); Mandela was President from 1994-1999; and Mbeki was President from 1999-2008.

All of the above (except Golda Meir) received the Nobel Peace Prize. Sadly, Anwar Sadat did not die of natural causes as he was assassinated in 1981. Golda Meir (1898-1978) was Prime Minister of Israel from 1969-1974. Menachem Begin (1913-1992) was PM of Israel from 1977 to 1983. Yasser Arafat (1929-2004) was the leader of the Palatine Liberation Organisation.
4. Who succeeded Juan Peron as President of Argentina when he passed away in 1974?

Answer: Maria Estele Martinez de Peron

Eva was the second wife of Juan Peron, but was never President. However, his 3rd wife (Maria Estele Martinez de Peron) became President upon his death and served from July 1974 to March 1976. At the time of her husband's death she was the Vice-President. Jorge Videla was the Senior Commander of the Argentinian Army who ousted Maria Estele from the Presidency in a Military Coup. Victor Martinez was President from 1983-1989.
5. I served twice as the head of state of the French Republic, including the first President of the Fourth Republic. Who am I?

Answer: Vincent Auriol

Auriol was head of the Provisional Government in 1946 but was elected as the first President of the Fourth Republic from 1947-54. Both De Gaulle and Poher were heads of state on two occasions, although, Power was an interim President on both of his occasions. De Gaulle was President of the Fourth Republic from 1959-1969. Coty was President from 1954-1959.
6. I served as Prime Minister of Canada for less than three months. Who am I?

Answer: John Napier Turner

Napier was PM for 79 days from 30 June 1984 to 17 September 1984. Campbell was the first female PM of Canada and served from 25 June 1993 to 4 November 1993. Clark served as PM from 4 June 1979 to 3 March 1980. King was PM from 1935-1948.

Kekkonen fought in Finland's Civil War in 1918 (Whites vs Reds). He was President of Finland from 1956-82. Paasikivi was President of Finland from 1946-56 and Ahtisaari President from 1994-2000.

Muzorewa was preceded by Ian Smith and succeeded by Robert Mugabe. Muzorewa became PM of Zimbabwe/Rhodesia during an Internal Settlement and only held office for 6 months before the country was renamed Zimbabwe. Soames was the last Governor of Rhodesia.

Bill Clinton was born William Jefferson Blythe IIII. He changed his surname to that of his step father (Clinton) at the age of 15. Cassidy was his mothers maiden name and Jefferson is his middle name.

Answer: Shipley

Jennifer Mary Shipley became New Zealand's first female PM in December 1997. Helen Clark succeeded Shipley in December 1999. Bill Rowling was PM in 1974/75 and David Lange was PM from 1984 to 1989.
