1. Our first stop is South Carolina, where Blindlady-27 has told me she wishes to go. Blindlady-27 wants to get in touch with a dear relative in Hub City, South Carolina. What is the more common name for this 'burg?

Answer: Spartanburg

As railroads grew in South Carolina in the late 19th century, Spartanburg was located at the intersection of many tracks and quickly became a railroad hub. At one point, up to 90 trains passed through or stopped in Hub City. Now it is the crossroads for Interstate 26 and Interstate 85.

2. Our Team Magnate ArlingtonVA is next on the list for a holiday. However, his idea of directions left something to be desired. All I was told was "take me to Surrentum." Where in the world is Surrentum?

Answer: Italy

Surrentum is the latin name for Sorrento, in Italy. Sorrento is famous for its production of Limoncello. So now I know why ArlingtonVA wanted to go there!

3. After letting ArlingtonVA off the bus to enjoy his holiday, we followed our itinerary, where we soon reached our next destination. Runaway_Drive wishes to leave us here, where he has told us that he is off to visit the Rockefeller Center. Where did Runaway_Drive wish to go?

Answer: New York

The Rockefeller Center in New York was declared a "National Historic Landmark" in 1987. New York is also home to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, as well as the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. The Bronx is one of the five boroughs of New York, the others being Manhattan, Staten Island, Queens and Brooklyn.

4. Sherm35 wants to go to the Bahamas. I know the Bahamas were occupied by American troops briefly during which war?

Answer: American War of Independence

The capital of the Bahamas is Nassau. Nassau was formerly known as Charles Town, and was burnt down by the Spanish, to be rebuilt as Nassau in 1695.

5. The next member of The Flakes is BeergirlLaura. She told me she wanted to go to Poland. More specifically to a place synonymous with the history of the Holocaust. Where did BeergirlLaura's holiday ticket read?

Answer: Auschwitz

Prehaps the most well-known German-run concentration camp from the Second World War was Auschwitz. After it was liberated by the Allies in 1945 it was preserved as a memorial to those who perished there. Bergen-Belsen, Dachau, and Ravensbr�ck, were all concentration camps in Germany, with the latter being a camp specifically for women.

6. Our next stop takes the Flake Bus to Asia, where we are to send our teammate margiefish for her holiday. Margie would love to go to India to visit the Taj Mahal, but who was responsible for its construction?

Answer: Shah Jahan

The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan ordered the construction of the Taj Mahal as a memorial to his wife Mumt�z Mahal, who died giving birth to their fourteenth child Gauhara Begum. Construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1632 and completed around 1853. The Mausoleum is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Jahanara Begum Sahib was the eldest daughter of Shah Jahan and Mumt�z Mahal.

7. We arrive in the USA for our next holiday. Praia would love to visit America, because she would love to take a helicopter through a certain gorge in Arizona. Where does Praia wish to go?

Answer: The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon was carved by the Colorado River, and is 277 miles long, and 1 mile deep. The Pueblo Native Americans saw the grand Canyon as a holy site and made pilgrimages to it.

Cheddar Gorge is in Somerset, England, and is the site where what was then Britain's oldest complete human skeleton, Cheddar Man, was found in 1903.

Samari� Gorge is on the Greek Island of Crete, and the Saklikent Gorge is found in Turkey, in the Antalya province.

8. AlOpeesha informs me that he wishes to go to Ireland for his holiday, and proceeds to give me the following clues as to where in Ireland he wishes to go: a) somewhere in County Fingal b) known in Irish as Baile �tha Cliath. Unfortunately, I am not fluent in Irish. So where does Al want to go?

Answer: Dublin

The English name Dublin comes from the Irish for "black pool." Dublin is situated at the mouth of the River Liffey, on the east of the country. Its modern name Baile �tha Cliath means "town of the hurdled ford." Dublin is also the home of Guinness, the stout which was first brewed at St. James's Gate in 1759.

9. Our team leader Amyrn007 wants to visit an African country for a safari. Which of the following countries does she want to visit?

Answer: Kenya

The Tsavo National Park is split into the eastern and western areas, divided by a railway and the A109 road. The National Park is popular, as it contains the Lugard Falls and the Aruba Dam.

10. Astir would love to visit Greece, and an interest in Greek culture leads her to want to visit a well known Greek temple. Not wishing to make her destination too obvious, Astir did not give me any more clues. Being slightly geographically challenged, where do I need to drop Astir off to visit in Greece?

Answer: Parthenon

Astir is off to visit the Parthenon, a temple in the Athenian Acropolis, dedicated to the greek Goddess Athena, who was considered the protector of people in Athens.Athena is the Goddess of war, wisdom and justice.

The Colosseum is in Italy, as is the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Ampitheatures were built both by the Greeks and the Romans, although they were not used as temples.

11. Fado72 told me to send her somewhere to watch birds. The Flake Bus has stopped, after dropping Fado72 off, along with some ornithologist binoculars, I told her she was at Caerlaverock. Where was Fado72?

Answer: Scotland

The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust site at Caerlaverock is a wetland nature reserve in Scotland, to the south of Dumfries, famous for its flocks of barnacle geese. Caerlaverock is special for non-ornithological reasons as well, as it is home to one of only two UK populations of the Horseshoe Shrimp, known as the "living fossil."

12. Norabee is next on the list. She has told me she would like to visit Lake Volta, but where in the world is Lake Volta?

Answer: Ghana

Lake Volta lies completely within Ghana, on the west coast of Africa. The lake is formed by the Akosombo Dam, which was completed in 1965. Although many people had to be relocated because of the dam, it provides electricity for much of the country. There is a National Park, called the Digya National Park of Ghana, on part of the western side of the lake.

13. This time we arrive in England, which Hannah500 has always wanted to visit. To paraphrase, "jewels are a girl's best friend," and so Hannah500 is off to visit the most famous jewels in England. Where are these jewels kept?

Answer: The Tower of London

The Crown Jewels have been kept at the Tower of London after they were stolen from Westminster Abbey in 1303. They are protected by guards, who stand guard outside the Jewel House. The Queen Victoria Pub, Albert Square, is seen as part of English culture, as it is part of the soap "Eastenders."

14. Scottishrose44 would love to go on a cooking holiday, and would love to spend time in Italy. To which one of the following places can Scottishrose44 go in Italy?

Answer: Tuscany

Tuscany attracts visitors for many reasons. Whilst the food and wine is attractive to some, others visit Tuscany for its art, as well as its attractive countryside. Scottishrose44 will have lots of fun exploring Tuscan cuisine, through cooking classes and by sampling the local cuisine.

15. Lastly, before the Flake Bus returns to Flakeland, we stop at our last destination. Mrslitlmac has told me to send her to New Zealand, but to a specific place known as "The second great lake of Kahumatamomoe." What is the more common name for the destination?

Answer: Rotorua

Rotorua is known for its hot mud pools and geysers, and attracts tourists from abroad as well as from within New Zealand. Due to the sulphur given off from the geothermal activity Rotorua has gained the nickname Sulphur City.

Taupo comes from the Maori for "The great cloak of Tia." Tia was the name of the person who discovered the lake.
