Answer: San Francisco

Berkeley is located across the bay from San Francisco, in neighboring Alameda County, and borders Oakland.
2. No great school would be complete without a great rivalry. Which university does Berkeley have a long-running rivalry with?

Answer: Stanford University

Every football season features a big game between the Cal Bears and the Stanford Cardinal. The winner of the game gains possession of the Stanford Axe. During football season, it is considered traitorous to wear red, Stanford's school color.
3. Berkeley is famous for the Free Speech Movement which took place during the 1960s. Which park did students and school authorities clash over?

Answer: People's Park

University officials wanted to turn the park into an athletic field but students wanted it to remain a community park. Violence erupted when the school tried to bulldoze the park. Eventually, then-governor Ronald Reagan sent in the National Guard. One student was killed and numerous others were injured.

In the end, People's Park was not developed but remained under university control. Today, it is a popular gathering spot for the city's homeless population.

DeCal courses are part of the Program for Democratic Education at Cal. Some of the classes offered are pretty off-beat, including "'The Simpsons' and Philosophy", "James Bond: Politics, Pop Culture, Hero", and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Analysis". All classes require a faculty sponsor and all curriculum must be approved by the university. Usually, the courses are only one or two units. Students take them to meet the minimum units that they are required to enroll in each semester.
