Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the Honda Valkyrie's first model year of production?

Answer: 1997

After a few years of rumors, the Valkyrie was introduced for sale in late 1996 as a 1997 model.
2. What was the engine displacement of the Honda Valkyrie?

Answer: 1520 cc

Huge for its time, it would now be considered mid-sized.
3. The engine in the Honda Valkyrie is a modified version of which already existing motorcycle's engine?

Answer: Gold Wing

Honda obviously took note of American hot-rodding to change the placid Wing's engine into the monster mill of the Valk.
4. For the Valkyrie engine, there was a change from the donor motorcycle's configuration of two 36mm carburetors. What was the Valkyrie's carburetor setup?

Answer: Six 24 mm carbs

In order to produce the extra power Honda wanted for the Valkyrie, they also enhanced its ability to guzzle the dinosaur juice.
5. In addition to the carburetor change on the Valkyrie, Honda also made a few changes to the internals of the original engine. Which of these did they change?

Answer: Hotter cams and solid lifters

They gained roughly a 10% power increase with relatively minor changes.
6. For the 1999 model year, a Valkyrie with a full fairing, radio, hard bags, a trunk and a larger gas tank was introduced. This touring cruiser was named the Valkyrie ___________?

Answer: Interstate

Almost all the capability of the Wing in a cool hot-rod package. What more can you ask for?
7. What was the final drive system on the Honda Valkyrie?

Answer: Shaft

No adjustment, lubrication, or worry about belt stretch. Honda thinks of everything.
8. Where was the Honda Valkyrie built?

Answer: Marysville, Ohio

That's right, Harley isn't the only American-made motorcycle.
9. What cooling system does the Honda Valkyrie use?

Answer: Water

Big power means big heat. With an engine this size air cooling doesn't seem to make much sense.
10. What was the final production model year of the Valkyrie? (The Valkyrie Rune is not considered a true Valk)

Answer: 2003

One of the biggest mistakes Honda ever made was to discontinue the Valkyrie.
