Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When was the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill founded?

Answer: December 11, 1789

In 1795 the University of North Carolina first started enrolling students. North Carolina is the oldest public university in the nation. Hinton James was the first ever student to go to the University of North Carolina. Hinton also founded the Dialectic Society, and has a dormitory named after him.

2. What University of North Carolina symbol is based on the Temple of Love in the Gardens of Versailles?

Answer: the Old Well

You can find the Old Well in front of the South Building. The Old Well was not originally in front of the South Building; it was closer to Old East. Old East is a dormitory. There are still remnants of where the Old Well used to be; there are sunken bricks in the shape of a circle in nearby a sidewalk.

The Old Well was once the sole water supply for the university. Now the university has a different water supply. It's tradition for students to get a sip of water from the Old Well on the first day of class, to bring good luck or straight A's. Since 2001 at every home football game the Tar Heels do the Old Well walk.

The team is dropped off at the Old Well and walk from there to Kenan Memorial Stadium. Kenan Memorial Stadium is the University of North Carolina's football venue.

The idea was approved; Vic was given $25 to purchase a ram. The ram was shipped from Texas, and then dubbed Rameses. The debut of Rameses was at a pep rally before The Tar Heels played Virginia Military Institute. Rameses was brought to Emerson Field, the Tar Heels football stadium at the time.
