Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Although it is famous for the things that have gone on within it, what cavernous landmark, located in ZIP Code 70112, gained fame for surviving something that was going on outside of it, in 2005?

Answer: Louisiana Superdome

The site of Super Bowl XII, the first Super Bowl game to be played indoors, the Louisiana Superdome served as an emergency shelter for thousands of New Orleans residents who stayed to face down Hurricane Katrina. The Saints, the dome's permanent tenant, split time during the 2005 NFL season in San Antonio and Baton Rouge, before returning in 2006 and making its first appearance the NFC Championship Game.
2. What structure, at one time the tallest building west of the Mississippi River, can be found in the ZIP Code 98109?

Answer: Space Needle

Situated on the grounds of the Seattle Center complex, the iconic Space Needle was built to withstand a magnitude 9.5 earthquake and Category 5 hurricane winds. Ironically, it was an earthquake that brought down the Space Needle in the opening scene of the made-for-TV movie "10.5", originally telecast on NBC during the May sweeps in 2004. Critics of the movie were quick to point out that the Needle's steel legs wouldn't crumble like masonry if a quake were to strike.
3. Batter up! You'll get your fill of good baseball and good food at which ballpark, situated in the ZIP Code 53214?

Answer: Miller Park

Replacing venerable Milwaukee County Stadium as the home of the Brewers in 2001, Miller Park has seen its share of unusual and, unfortunately, tragic events. The stadium's opening was delayed for one year when a construction crane collapsed and killed three people in July, 1999.

The 2002 MLB All-Star Game ended in a 7-7 tie. And Touchstone Pictures filmed the 2004 feature film "Mr. 3000", starring Bernie Mac and Angela Bassett, there.
4. At ZIP Code 15222 is the first commercial radio station in the United States. By what call letters is this station known?

Answer: KDKA-AM

Although KDKA can lay claim to a number of firsts, including being the first radio station to broadcast presidential election returns (1920) and the first AM station to broadcast in stereo (1982), it's current location was not its first. According to KDKA's website, the station's first home was a shack atop Westinghouse's "K" building in East Pittsburgh.
5. ZIP Code 37214 is the home to what musical noted musical landmark?

Answer: Grand Ole Opry

A who's-who of country music has graced Nashville's landmark radio broadcast, which started in 1925 as the WSM Barn Dance. The Opry program got its more famous name in 1927, and has been located in several different venues, including the current Grand Ole Opry House, which opened in 1974.
6. The 90th Space Wing of the U.S. Air Force can be found in ZIP Code 82009. What name is given to the installation where the 90th Space Wing is headquartered?

Answer: Francis E. Warren Air Force Base

Named after Wyoming's first governor, Francis E. Warren Air Force Base has been used predominantly as an ICBM base since being transferred from the U.S. Army (as Fort D.A. Russell) in 1948. Warren housed the first operational Atlas missiles during the late 1950s and early 1960s, and currently houses Minuteman ICBMs. Launch facilities under Warren's command can be found in southeastern Wyoming, western Nebraska and northern Colorado.
7. The action gets fast and furious in ZIP Code 28027, which is home to seven different NASCAR related events. What facility located in this ZIP Code hosts all these events?

Answer: Charlotte Motor Speedway

NASCAR's longest race, the Coca-Cola 600, is held at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the Sunday evening of Memorial Day weekend. It is the climax of two weeks of events at the track, which sits just inside the city limits of Concord, at the Cabarrus/Mecklenburg County line in the Charlotte region. From 1998 to 2009, the speedway was title-sponsored by Lowe's, a North Carolina-based chain of home improvement stores.
8. For higher learning, look no further than ZIP Code 61801. Which major institution can be found there?

Answer: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Boasting a student population around 42,000, Illinois (as it's popularly known) is highly regarded for its programs in agriculture, aviation and engineering. The school is one of six charter members of what is now known as the Big Ten Conference.
9. If you're passing through ZIP Code 44708, you can make a stop at which of the following attractions?

Answer: Pro Football Hall of Fame

Among the 17 members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's charter class of 1963 were former NFL commissioner Bert Bell, longtime Bears coach George Halas, and Washington Redskins owner George Preston Marshall. The last living member of the class, Redskins quarterback Sammy Baugh, died in December 2008.
10. When the Weary Traveler takes off from ZIP Code 75261, what major airport happens to be his point of departure?

Answer: Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport

For many years, Dallas-Fort Worth International, more commonly referred to by its call sign, DFW, was the largest airport in the United States in terms of land area, at 18,076 acres (28.2 square miles). The airport lost that title to the new Denver International Airport, which at 34,524 acres (53.9 square miles), is nearly twice its size.
