Answer: West Philadelphia

Penn is located between 30th and 43rd streets and between Market and Pine. The main thoroughfare is Locust Walk. The oldest two-tiered stadium in the country, Franklin Field, is on South Street.

Harvard was found in 1636. William & Mary was founded in 1693. Yale was founded in 1701. Penn was founded in 1740. Columbia, founded in 1754 is the ninth oldest school in the nation.

A group of working-class citizens decided to erect a great preaching hall that would also serve as a charity school. A deed of trust was formed, but funding fell through for both the building and the school. In 1749, Benjamin Franklin named a board of trustees, with himself as president. The Academy opened in 1751 and was chartered in 1755. Mark Lloyd, university archivist, calls the 1740 date "a triumph of law over common sense."

The world's first collegiate business school was the brainchild of Philadelphia entrepreneur Joseph Wharton, who wrote a letter asking the University of Pennsylvania to create a school to prepare young men to assume control of the complex economy that was unfolding.
Wharton consistently ranks among the first three business schools in the nation.
5. Which founding father of the United States is also the founding father of Penn?

In 1749 in Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin presented his vision of a school in a pamphlet titled "Proposals for the Education of Youth in Pennsylvania". Unlike other American Colonial colleges, the new school would not focus on education for the clergy. Instead, it would prepare students for lives of business and public service. The proposed program of study would become the nation's first modern liberal arts curriculum. Doors to the University opened in 1751, when the first classes were held.

Thomas Jefferson founded the University of Virginia and John Adams went to Harvard.
6. What are the colors of the school?

Answer: Red and Blue

Penn's colors are red and blue. The legend goes that a runner at an early Ivy League track meet was asked what colors would be representing his school, Penn. The runner responded that the school's colors would be red for beating Harvard and blue for beating Yale.
Blue and White are the colors of Yale. Crimson is the color of Harvard. Green and White are the colors of Dartmouth.
7. What is the mascot of the university?

Answer: Quaker

Penn's mascot is the Quaker. It is a rather oxymoronic mascot, especially for a football team, seeing that Quakers are nonviolent. However, the Quaker is loved nonetheless.
8. What is the name of the main avenue that runs through campus?

Answer: Locust Walk

Locust Street or Locust Walk runs through the center of campus. No vehicles can use it. Also, bike riding is not allowed monday through friday from 8:30am to 5:30pm. It is the heart of campus. The favorite "broken button" can be found there as well.
9. How many undergraduates attend the school in an average year?

Answer: 9,500

There are around 9,500 to 10,000 undergrads in four schools. The school of arts and sciences is the most populous. The other schools are the Wharton school of business, the nursing school, and the engineering school. The undergrads live in eleven dorms.

Answer: Princeton

An unofficial version of one Penn cheer states "don't send my son to Harvard, the dying mother said. Don't send my son to Princeton, I'd rather see him dead. But send my son to the U of P, the home of the red and the blue!"
