Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which whatchamacallit is Spanish for a striped equine zoo animal whose jukebox might play "Feelin'Groovy"?

Answer: cebra

All of the choices given are words in Spanish for animals that might be found in a zoo, but only the zebra ("cebra") fits the bill for being a striped equine. Because of how the stripes run on a zebra's body, I imagine that any zebra's jukebox could include the Simon and Garfunkel tune "Feelin' Groovy"!

"Gato" is Spanish for "cat". "Leopardo" is Spanish for "leopard". "Caballo" is Spanish for "horse".
2. Which whatchamacallit is French for a quirky primate lacking a tail whose jukebox might play the zany vocal "30,000 Pounds of Bananas"?

Answer: chimpanzé

All of these are French words for animals, but only the chimpanzee (chimpanzé) lacks a long tail and is a primate. I imagine any self-respecting chimp would love to have Harry Chapin's funny song "30,000 Pounds of Bananas" on a playlist!

"Lion" is French for "lion". "Perroquet" is French for "parrot". "Singe capucin" is French for "capuchin monkey".
3. Which whatchamacallit is Portuguese for an animal with a long body part and an even longer memory whose jukebox could have the zippy ditty "Found a Peanut" from the quirky "Serial Mom" soundtrack?

Answer: elefante

All of these are Portuguese words for animals with elongated body parts, but only the elephant (elefante) has the reputation for never forgetting. I could see a hipster elephant humming along to Kathleen Turner singing "Found a Peanut" from the movie "Serial Mom" (1994)!

"Girafa" is Portuguese for "giraffe" (which has a long neck). "Rinoceronte" is Portuguese for "rhino" (which has a long horn). "Serpente" is Portuguese for "snake" (which has a long body).
4. Which whatchamacallit is Italian for an endangered fuzzy feline that lives in Vietnam and Myanmar whose jukebox would likely play the quizzical theme song to movie "Rocky III"?

Answer: tigre

All of these living things are Italian words for furred animals, but only the tiger (tigre) is a feline native to Asia. I imagine most tigers with jukeboxes would love to jam to the "Eye of the Tiger", which was the hit song from "Rocky III" by Survivor!

"Cane" is Italian for "dog". "Topo" is Italian for "mouse". "Mucca" is Italian for "cow".
5. Which whatchamacallit is German for a reptile that sheds its skin and whose quixotic zen-themed jukebox might play "Let's Give Adam and Eve Another Chance"?

Answer: Schlange

All of these are German words for reptiles, but only the snake (Schlange) sheds its skin and is associated with the creation story from the Bible. Since this a quixotic and zen snake, he probably feels remorse at the fate of the first man and woman, and Gary Puckett & the Union Gap's tune would be a popular one on his jukebox!

"Schildkröte" is German for "turtle". "Eidechse" is German for "lizard". "Krokodil" is German for "crocodile".
6. Which whatchamacallit is Spanish for a very crazy-looking Australian egg-laying mammal with the bill of a duck whose jukebox would quite likely play "People Are Strange"?

Answer: ornitorrinco

All of the choices are words in Spanish for animals from Australia, but only the platypus ("ornitorrinco") has the bill of a duck and is an egg-laying mammal. Because it is such a strange-looking creature, I imagine that many a platypus would have "People are Strange" by "The Doors" playing on their jukeboxes!

"Canguru" is Spanish for "kangaroo". "Emú" is Spanish for "emu". "Dingo" is Spanish for "dingo".
7. Which whatchamacallit is French for a quirky and much-feared cartilaginous sea-dweller whose jukebox might play the zany vocal "Maneater"?

Answer: requin

All of these are French words for ocean-dwellers, but only the shark ("requin") is much-feared and is considered a maneater. I imagine any self-respecting shark would love to have Daryl Hall and John Oates' song "Maneater" on a playlist and would also never fail to tune in to the Discover Channel's Shark Week programming!

"Baleine" is French for "whale". "Poulpe" is French for "octopus". "Dauphin" is French for "dolphin".
8. Which whatchamacallit is Portuguese for an insect or bug noted for being quite a hard worker by Aesop and others, and whose jukebox would have the zippy "High Hopes" among its top ten hits?

Answer: formiga

All of these are Portuguese words for insects or bugs, but only the ant (formiga) was the subject of the Aesop fable that touted its hard-working nature. I could see a hipster ant blasting Frank Sinatra's version of "High Hopes" as an anthem to their industriousness!

"Abelha" is Portuguese for "bee". "Libélula" is Portuguese for "dragonfly". "Minhoca" is Portuguese for "earthworm".
9. Which whatchamacallit is Italian for a poisonous snake that can kill a human and whose jukebox would likely play the quizzical song by Eminem, "Venom"?

Answer: cobra

All of these are Italian words for different varieties of snakes, but only the cobre (cobra) is a poisonous one capable of killing a human. Because the cobra has traditionally been part of a dancing snake-charming act, where it appears to dance to music, I think most modern cobras with jukeboxes would prefer Eminem's "Venom" as their new theme song!

"Pitone" is Italian for "python". "Anaconda" is Italian for "anaconda". "Boa" is Italian for "boa constrictor".
10. Which whatchamacallit is German for a fun and quirky mammal that is totally at home in the water and whose jukebox might play Elvis's zany "Do the Clam" about one of its favorite foods?

Answer: Otter

All of these are German words for animals, but only the otter (Otter) is be totally at home in the water. Though the otter can spend time on land, the other options listed would not be happy spending that kind of time in the water, by contrast. Elvis Presley's playful romp "Do the Clam" would be a perfect choice for an otter's jukebox!

"Fledermaus" is German for "bat". "Bär" is German for "bear". "Kaninchen" is German for "rabbit".
