What celebrities have you met?I went to a book signing and met George Carlin. When the Monkees were in town my mom and I snuck into thier hotel and we met Davey Jones and Peter Tork. But my favorite was when I met John Inman, I was eight months pregnant and he suggested I name my son John. We sat in the greenroom and watched an 'Are You Being Servd' marathon and he told me all about the episodes and little tidbits about it, it was so cool.

I met Ashton Kutcher from "That 70's Show" at the NBA All-Star Game in Philly this year. He was just stading behind me in the hot dog line talking on his cell. I got his autograph too!

As a lot of my work used to be in and around the London area, I got to meet quite a few famous faces, so here's just a selection of my favs:Richard Burton & Tony Curtis while asking directions for somewhere. We ended up having a few drinks and I ended up leaving my van and getting home on the train For those of you who know George Best, I once sat on his loo, but it was in the middle of the street at the time. he was in the process of moving. I rewired David Bowie's house in Chelsea. What an awesome music system. While this job was ongoing I also met Bill Wyman of the rolling Stones. But my all time fav was while working in kensington, I dropped my hammer down some steps, and who was there to pick it up for me? None other than Madonna. We ended up having a Baguette and coffee at a cafe round the corner. What a terrific lady.

Well, I know Lord Andry. He's this really great guy.Anyhoo, Dennis Franz picked up my jacket that I dropped in the Oakland Airport...he's pretty cool. I met Cherry Poppin' Daddies and talked to the band members at a concert. Alyson Hannigan and Seth Green of Buffy fame. I've seen many others...then again...I live in LA. but that don't count cause I didn't meet them. Like the time I was at Lucque's and I saw Patricia Arquette, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Robert DeNiro and Renee Zellwiger...all in that same restaurant. pretty cool! for livin' in LA...I sure haven't met very many celebs.

Sparky!! You had lunch with Spike Milligan ... surely thats got to rate a mention!!Won't mean much to a lot of you but I got to meet a bunch of cricketers over the years .. eg Bob Simpson, Stork Hendry, Joel Garner, Malcom Marshall, Tony Greig and a few others. And also a few Rugby League players ... Keith "Golden Boots" Barnes came to my grandfather's funeral. But all of these was when I was a kid, nobody famous since then.

Can I add a "Part 2" to the original question? What did you think of the people that you've met? Were they nice in person? Were they actually jerks? Did they live up to the "being" that the world makes them out to be? As for Tony Randall, I found him to be a very sweet, gentle man. He was very interested in the people that he was speaking to and seemed to be just as nice in person as he's always seemed on the screen. And, Felix seems to be just as tidy, too!

i grew up in Beckenham in south east london and a lot of local celebrities seemed to hang around or live around there, so i met (some of these are tentative tho'):Mari Wilson in the local record shop KMK - remember her song 'just what i've always wanted'..? she had a beehive..? oh well, she WAS famous for a while, honest!!! she was really nice the Krankies at a charity football match - they were ok John Yip (who played the chinese detective)he was ok One guy from 'On the Buses' who kissed me on the cheek. he was funny Peter Duncan (a la blue peter) who went to my primary school. he was ok Jeffery from Rainbow when i belonged to the 'zippy laugh fan club' at uni' - this was funny cos when i saw him i also saw Paul Coia and Debbie Greenwood with him and asked paul coia if he went to paisley tech college like me cos he looked so familiar - everybody laughed at me (i think this should go into the most embarrassing moment thread too!)jeffery was VERY tanned, and nice too, but very tanned !!! Shatrugan Sinha - a bollywood film actor - at Heathrow airport Madhur Jaffrey at the Glasgow Film Theatre - i asked her a question and gave my mom her autograph Nisha Ganatra an american-indian young director emailed me about a film that she directed that starred Madhur Jaffrey i spoke to KITT at universal studios (that's a little tentative, but doesn't it count ?!!!!) my husband knows marty pellow's (from wet, wet, wet) burd
i met a guy who used to be on aberdeen radio and tv alot when i lived there and was attractive to alot of the girls.he also jointly owned a menswear shop. i think he is now on scotland fm or something like that - i can't remember his name altho i thought he was really handsome at the time - tho now think yuck!! he didn't have much of a personality either!!! OH it's Robin Galloway. I was on the telly once - for about 5 seconds, and the back of my car got 10 seconds in Aberdeen when i was a social worker up there - we were collecting presents to distribute to local families in need one xmas. i have it on video (oh dear i think i'm just a little sad!!!) there are more equally tentative ones, but i'll come back later when i remember them - am i allowed to tell u really tentative ones, or does it have to be direct contact..?

A few summers ago I worked as a set dresser for an independent movie (The White River Kid). I got to have a drink with Bob Hoskins; he's very funny and down to earth. I saw Ellen Barkin's boobies as well, but I didn't meet them.I met Marilyn Manson eight years ago. Freak. I got to work security at a Marcus Allen book signing and got to have a few words with him. He was my hero when he played for the Raiders.

I've never met anyone. Oh, I met Jeff Green, the English Comedian. He was lovely. I know a guy that stood up a girl at a pub and missed meeting Ray Manzerek. And that's the last time he stood anyone up, I think....

I've never met anyone famous. My best friend, however, met former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau when her class went to an IMAX presentation in Ottawa. She had gotten up for some reason, and when she came back somebody had taken her seat. So she left the area where her class was sitting and found an available seat next to an elderly gentleman. They spoke for awhile, and when the presentation was over they introduced themselves. She tells me that her jaw dropped when she realised she'd just been having a casual conversation with the former PM of Canada!! Another friend of mine that I met at school last year was from Norway, and she'd had a summer job for a few years at EPCOT Center in the Norwegian pavilion (lucky girl!). While she was working there one day, she met David and Courteney Cox Arquette! I correspond with (but have not met) a quasi-famous person. Gabriel Koerner, the Star Trek Geek from Comedy Central's Beat the Geeks. Just recently he asked me to help him maintain his website, which will be fun.

Such a hurry! Archie Moore-boxer William Davis-Premier of Ontario in the 60's (lunched) Sammy David Jr.-ran right into him in the Four Seasons in Vancouver, along with Frank Sinatra and Dean (it was the LAST time Dean was with 'em)....right after we'd seen their concert. Literally walked SMACK into them on a small stairway...and we sat...and they sat, right across from us in the lounge...and they acted like immature idiots, but there was this piano player there named Peter, and he played all my favourites from the musicals...cause besides the celebs...on a Tuesday night....we were the only ones THERE![ 03-08-2002: Message edited by: lefois ]

I worked for Woody Hermann, Freddie Green (of the Count Basie Orchestra), and Bob Mintzer when I was in college. I met Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers in an elevator at the airport. I met Carl Perkins with my dad. THey talked for over an hour. I met Survivor when I was in High School. I have several musician's children in my class. Most of them are sessions people but one has worked some big names: Ginger Sands (made the top 10 cut for a Grammy Nomination two years ago for her children's CD), Mary Beth Peterzell (songwriter), Dave Van Sickle (Session drummer), and Julie Schraeder-Rust (writes a lot of well known children's songs). I keep telling them when they win their first Grammies to not forget their kids' Preschool Teacher.

I've met Paul Newman, Henry Fonda and Lee Remick while they were filming "Sometimes a great Notion" in Oregon. Paul Newman is the most charming person and quite natural and didn't mind in the least my sister and I taking his photo. He also did some wildlife films with my cousins in Idaho, so they had the same impression. Michael Sarrazin was in that film so we saw him for some of the shots.I've seen Jimmy Carter speak in Montana to a large gathering of Native American tribes and then was going to shake his hand and the Secret Service bustled him along. He's a very urbane and kind person. I've said hello to French actor Pierre Richard twice, once in a town where I lived and then in an airport. He's a nice guy too. I've seen the Princes of Monaco a few times close up, but I was working at the time and couldn't shake hands. Too bad. I've seen a couple of sports stars close up here where I work. Tomba the skiier, and many motorcycling champions. (the former does shave his legs!) I've seen a few Formula one guys too. I saw Jesse Jackson at the airport one time as our flight was delayed for 24 hours and I was waiting in lines to get a hotel voucher and he was going into the VIP lounge. I used to work next to Reagan's house in Sacramento but as my friends would say, "hey, I tried to go up and sell my girl scout candy and the guys turned me away!" I've seen Jerry Brown, former California governor but never saw him roller skating with Linda Rondstadt when they were an item. I lived a block away from his apartment that he refused to leave to go into a mansion in the suburbs. He played Gregorian chants in the Capitol park. I've met a few more bigwigs, one of Claudia's main squeezes but otherwise, I find that celebrities are like others, they come in all sorts. By the way, John Inman was Mister Humphries? He was wonderful. For years my daughter would say, "You mean that actor is dressing like a lady? Like Mr Humphries?"

What an array of famous people we all already have met !!! my mum reminded me that when we were very young, my folks took us camping to the lake district. it was a bit of a washout and the tent got completely drenched so mum and dad had to go a-begging at the nearest farm. the couple who owned the farm allowed us to stay there and as a bonus for mum and dad, they looked after my sister and i to allow our parents some time together - well most of the holiday apparently, whilst we mucked in on the farm. they turned out to be Edward Heath's cousin and spouse. Edward Heath was PM at the time i think!! and they say there's no such thing as child labour !!!i never knew this story until a few weeks ago when my parents came to stay and we had dinner with my friends. well u learn a new thing everyday don't u?

Adrian Quinn came to our little hometwon moviehouse, meet everybody and signed autographs for the area first showing of Songcatcher", the lovely movie made here in the mountains. Very, very nice. When The Cell opened here, Vincent D'Noffrio, was at the moviehouse, stayed after the movie, talked, signed autographs, but his people live near here. Very friendly. Astronaut Rick Searfoss, who went up in several Space Shuttle missions, gave a talk here, and was just so very nice, talked a long time to us. Of course, our US Senator lives near here, when not in Washington, so you'll see Charles Taylor ordering a burger, he'll speak, Very friendly--always getting the vote! Andie MacDowell lives in Asheville, so if she's not gone on a shoot, she's seen everywhere up here. Her people are from SC. I've seen actors in live theater, like Paige O'Hara, but never meet them. Oh, we meet Peter Noone and Paul Revere after an old-goldie show--very nice.

Well, if we're going to talk about relatives, too... My teacher and volleyball coach in high school was named James Bonham-Carter. At first I thought it was just a huge coincidence, but then it turned out that the actress Helena Bonham-Carter really is his cousin!

This is gonna make me sound like a right stalker........As a taxi driver in Lincoln, our company had exclusive contracts with Radio Lincolnshire and the Theatre Royal: Eric Sykes.....miserable Brian Glover...top northern geezer Lesley Joseph..stuck-up Lisa Tarbuck...friendly Eve Ferret.....even more friendly Arthur Bostrom.(gendarme in 'Allo Allo')......shy Linda Lusardi..(former 'page 3' girl).........my favourite Ken Livingstone(Mayor of London......his Mum lived in Lincoln).......didn't give him much time to talk about himself as I was busy berating the GLC! ('ere guv.......you'll never guess who I had in the back of my cab the other day?') On parade with the RAF: Maggie Thatcher.....I won't have a word said against her..LOL Liz.................distant look in her eyes Sarah Ferguson......strangely attractive with short hair? As a member of the RAF in Berlin...(we used to be a tad cheeky and invite ourselves backstage at some gigs): The Stranglers......although I'd met them before and after Echo and the Bunnymen. talked mostly about football. The Tubes...........minus Fee Waybill and the dancing girls, 'interesting' Jim Davidson......met him in a pub in Soho, wasting some time while I was waiting for a flight back to Berlin. On seeing my RAF kitbag, struck up a conversation with me about the forces. Boy...does that bloke love the British forces. Sir Anthony Hopkins.....whilst he was filming 'The Innocents' (the less said about that particular film, the better), in the Officers Mess in Berlin. Fiona Richmond.......(famous..er..'adult' British film star). After watching her in 'Space in my Pyjamas' at a theatre in Swindon in the early 80's. She came into the same pub that we were in for an after-show 'snifter'. What did you expect me to do? Ignore her? Dickie Davies (former World of Sport presenter) and Mike Channon (Saints footballer). At our local Boys Clubs player of the year awards, in the 70's. Ray 'Butch' Wilkins........(former Chelsea, Manchester Utd. and England footballer) at the Andover player of the year award, also in the 70's. Anne Robinson..........on my 'Weakest Link' appearance in 2000 (horrible woman) William G Stewart......on my 3 '15-1' appearances in 99, 2000 and 2002 (nice fella) Hugh Bonneville........(Father Jack Dowling in the upcoming film, 'Conspiracy of Silence'). Watch out for me, I'm an extra, dressed up as a Priest in the Vatican scene (skinhead, in black, with dog-collar). wez oh.......and by the by, I went to school with Brian Hughes (former Swindon Town and Torquay Utd. footballer) and Anthony McGlone (National Hunt jockey). Also used to play football against Paul Rideout (Everton footballer who scored the winning goal in the FA Cup Final for Everton against ManU in 199!"£$$£$^$......GIT!) However, this all pales into insignificance against the Madame Cholet reference.

I've got a couple more...My mom accidently walked onto a shooting of "Renegade" and got her picture taken with Lorenzo Lamas. When Donny Osmand was in the studio my mom met him and got his autograph on my 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' CD and (this is sad) my mom brough home a bottle of water that he had only drank half of. Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser) walked behind me while I was in line waiting for popcorn at a movie theater in Hollywood (He was going to see 'Gone In 60 Seconds' unfortunately I went to see 'Me,Myself And Irene' I met Red Green... woo hooo. At one point Bruce Campbell (Army Of Darkness) was looking for houses in Michigan and my mom was his real estate agent, she used to let me listen to his voice mails that he left her.

Living in Jersey as I do it would be strange if I hadn't come across some of the cast of Bergerac, in particular John Nettles who played the lead role - he was very pleasant when I got chatting to him one day when he was going to be giving prizes to some children, I also used to see him in the local supermarket doing his weekly shop! Sean Arnold who played Crozier, well what can I say other than he thought that he was someone grand - and he wasn't!Like most people in the UK, I have seen virtually every member of the Royal Family at some stage, the nearest was when my daughter was awarded her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award which meant that she (and a guest who was me) went to St James Palace - there were loads of youngsters collecting their awards but it is arranged in such a way that they stand in a crescent shape with the Duke of Edinburgh in the middle, none of them is more than a few feet from him as he speaks to them. The guests were on the other side of the room but placed in such a postition that we could see our own child. We were lucky to be in the Throne Room, they also used a number of other rooms. For those who might wonder, there was a lot of red and a lot of gold paint, all the chairs the guests had to sit on were painted gold, carpets were red. When I was about 14 I stayed in the same house as Joe Brown and the Bruvvers who were popular at that time, the house was owned by a man who later was shot and killed in the pirate radio stations war. The ex-formula one racing driver Derek Warwick was dishy, he awarded prizes at a Christmas Fayre held at my daughter's school, his daughter was in her form. I used to frequent a pub in Hamble which is in the south of England, one day for fun I helped out behind the bar as a friend of mine was working, the then Prime Minister, Edward Heath, came in looking for his yacht crew, he had lost them - what an arrogant man!

Your reference to the Bergerac fellow, what a doll, reminded me of some guys I'd forgotten! As I lived in a vacation paradise, Hawaii, where some films were shot, I met Tom Selleck a couple of times, he's just as nice as he looks. He was just doing his shopping in the department store like everyone else. I met Jack Lord doing his shopping in the supermarket, you know the Hawaii five o dude. He was wearing an aloha shirt and extremely high shoes, he isn't as tall looking in person, and pushing a cart. I've been on stage with Herb Ellis, jazz guitarist, as a band member, great guy. Kai Winding, a trombone player, same story.

I've met quite a few famous people but I'm sure none of them remember me....Matt Dillon (very nice), Kevin Dillon (a little smug), Richard Harris (he mistook me for a houseguest he was due to greet at the airport. I guess he'd never seen her), Marvellous Marvin Hagler (the boxer--he tried to pick me up when I was about 17!), Bob Vila (of 'This Old House' fame. I met him in a casino. He couldn't figure out how to work a slot machine, believe it or not. I was tempted to make some sort of tool-related joke, but wisely, did not. He was extremely polite), Sting (also very nice--and absolutely striking in person), Lou Gossett Junior and Jonathan Silverman, while they were filming a movie in Vancouver (Gossett was charming, Silverman was okay), three of the 'Kids In The Hall', Jean Chretien (our Prime Minister. I actually got to sit alone with him in a restaurant. He was lovely), a bunch of Canadian politicians that I'm sure no one wants to hear about, and finally, I ran into Tony Randall--quite literally. I was dashing through an airport to catch a connecting flight, and ran right into him, nearly knocking him over. I couldn't really stop longer than to apologize, but my recollection is that he was incredibly polite, friendly and composed. He looked exactly like the roles he plays on TV--He was perfectly groomed and dressed, wearing a hat, with an overcoat folded neatly over one arm. That's about all I can remember right now...

I live in Indiana, so I don't get the opportunity to meet a whole lot of famous people. There have been a few, however. The most recent "encounter" was in June, 2001. The Monkees were in concert in my town, and my friend and I attended. Afterward, we went to a nearby bar to have a couple of drinks. We had been there about 45 minutes, when Micky Dolenz walked in. Most of the people in the bar had attended the concert, and everyone was very excited to meet him. My friend and I got his autograph, and were able to chat with him for awhile. He was quite nice, and very personable. He stuck around for quite awhile and played pool with some of the patrons in the bar. A few years ago, I won backstage passes to meet Joan Jett and Cheap Trick, who were appearing in concert together in my town. My husband and I got a limo ride there and back, and were able to meet and talk with each artist for a considerable amount of time. They posed for pictures with us, and signed autographs. We even got to sample some food and beverages from their buffet table! After meeting everyone, we were able to watch the concert from the "wings" of the stage. A very exciting night! Several years ago--around 1986, perhaps? My husband and I took in a movie one Sunday afternoon--Mad Max, Beyond Thunderdome. We were standing in the concession line, when I happened to notice a guy in a "Crosby, Stills and Nash" t-shirt. It looked just like Graham Nash, and I knew they had played a concert in my town the night before, although I hadn't attended. I told my husband I thought it was him, but he said it couldn't be. Just then, we heard a guy (a bodyguard, I think), say "Hey, Nash--what do you want to drink?" Then, I KNEW it was him. We followed the guys into the movie, and sat a couple of rows behind them. I think I paid more attention to him than I did to the movie. Anyway, after the movie, my husband and I met up with them in the parking lot, and chatted with Graham for a bit, and got his autograph. He seemed like a nice guy. There are a few "lesser known" celebs that I've met, but this is enough for now. I think I've gone on long enough.

Ok, everybody's met the Monkees except for me! It's not fair!! They were supposed to tour, but they had a fight (I think it was Mike's fault - but I don't care, I love him the best) and they cancelled... WHY HAS GOD FORSAKEN ME!!!!

Since Toronto has become coined as "North Hollywood" you'd think I would have met more celebs than I have, but then again I don't live in T.O. anymore. No, I met my celebrity in Newmarket (my home town), where I was taking an extra job for Christmas (the yongest HAD to have a Nintendo 64 lol)! Anyhow, here I was sitting in the food court at Upper Canada Mall waiting for my shift to start at Laura Secord (yuck), when all of a sudden I see a guy sitting across the way, and he looks just like Graham Greene (Dances with Wolves, Thunderheart, Secrets of Forensic Sciences...). Wow, I thought, that's Graham Green eating at my food court!!! In that moment, even though my mother loves him, I decided to be cool and not approach---the man was having lunch, afterall! The next thing I know a young girl does approach him and I found myself feeling sorry for the dude.
It was time for work, and I am not into adoring people just cause I saw them in the movies, ha, ha, ha, so off I go to sell chocolates and icecream.
When I got to work, I couldn't wait to tell the girls of my sighting. But no sooner did I get my green apron on, then there he was with his wife(?) asking me for two vanilla cones!!!
Calmly and very ly, I made those cones and all that is running through my head is it is almost Christmas and how thrilled my Mom would be if I could give her Graham Greene's Autograph...So I asked. He was very put out and I was pissed, (don't like to have my pride questioned)! He gave it to me on one of the small L.S. baggies and then walked away without a word. Hummmph.
Too be fair, I later read in the tabloids that he had a nervous breakdown, or some such, later that month. Compassion ruled and I forgave his lack of respect.

I have only met two very famous people in my life so I have no trouble remembering them.
Fred Hayes (came to speak at the University in town, and there were only about 15 people at the lecture he gave, so afterwards my family went up and my brother and I got to talk to him and he autographed our Apollo 13 books- he signed mine "Good luck!" Which I thought was a bit odd knowing the kind of luck he's had- not only with the whole Apollo 13 mission but also a few days before he came to do the lecture he had visited his grandson's school and fallen off the stage so he had a large bandaid on his forehead)
Jesse Ventura (came to my high school to give a talk. It took all my willpower to not boo him loudly and walk out) although my craving to express my displeasure at Ventura was satisfied when a number of Advanced Placement Government students asked him a bunch of government questions that he couldn't awnser.
and there I go I've done it. I told myself I would get to bed by 12:30 and it's 1:12. It's off to bed for me..

I went to school with Patsy Palmer. For people who have never watched Eastenders it'll mean nothing, but for those who did she was Biance and was famous for shouting "Ricky". She wasn't in my year, but was in my younger sister's class and her real name was Julie Harris....not quite so glam.
I've also met Nigel Havers - not very momentous as he asked me where the toilets were. No quite the charmer!!
My old man says to say that he's met Prince Charles and the Queen Mum whilst he was in the army. That's showing off!!

Professionally, I have had the pleasure to meet two chemists who are arguably the most influential people in their fields for the past 30 years; namely, Allen J. Bard (electrochemistry) and Al Cotton (inorganic chemistry).
I have also attended a lecture by a Nobel chemistry laureate whose name escapes me at this time. His work was instrumental in determining the extent of ozone depletion in the atmosphere during the late 70s.
On a more musical note, no pun intended, I shook hands with and got an autograph from my guitarist idol Al DiMeola. He is an influential jazz-fusion guitar player with amazing technical ability.
I never met her, but I came across a movie shoot for Shelley Long of Cheers fame who was making a movie on the campus of my alma mater, the University of Minnesota, in the early 90s.

Look what I've found! I could have started a new thread, but then no one would have been able to see the earlier selection as well. This has become a bit of a hobby of mine, partly as I've always wanted to be famous myself and this is the next best thing.
Firstly, as we had a family guitar and music shop I served in for 10 years when I wasn't studying, and all the major guitarists were customers, including John Williams and Julian Bream, as well as Lonnie Donegan and many less well known but regular contributors to TV such as Freddie Phillips who played all the music for Camberwick Green. Tom Conti also spent over an hour with me in our practice room trying all the concert guitars but couldn't make up his mind to buy one.
Otherwise, I have a long list which I'll prune of fairly big names I've met from an early age one way or another. I'll start with Clement Freud, who was at an exhibition when I was about 8 and my mother pointed him out and said I should get his autograph, which is lost in the files of time. Then Roy Hudd was signing books at a book fair. Ron Moody was a family friend, who I saw a few times, and he was the star guest at my barmitzvah. At that time I was in an amateur production of Oliver, and we had a lesson from Lionel Blair, who was great fun to be with. I was in an antique market with my father who said "look who's opposite", and it was Liberace! I went up and said hello, and he shook my hand and was very cheerful and friendly. I was so surprised I actually forgot to ask for his autograph.
In more recent years there has been a fairly steady procession, the most recent being my dreamed about meeting with Big Brother contestants (as described in the TV forum), when I met (and was filmed for TV) 4 members outside the studio at the finale. Just before that I'd exploited my discovery that in a certain theatre the actors all eat in the main canteen, and tailored my visits to coincide with hopeful glimpses of my favourite people. I saw a number rehearse as well (till the director finally saw me and chucked me out), including the best of all, Patrick Stewart, also Sue Johnson, and in the canteen saw Ian Lavender, Neil Hamilton and Kate O'Mara, and actually went up and spoke to Ann Charleston, who was Madge from neighbours. And finally, any British UFO enthusiasts will know Nick Pope, the Ministry of Defence UFO man, and national authority. When he was first on TV I said 'That's my friend Sebastian's brother I haven't seen since he was about 9!' That's because we used to see them on holiday, and rarely met in London. As I had an interest myself I wrote to him, and have been helping him out ever since (after an evening working it out in a pub) mainly interviewing possible alien abductees and working on methods of hypnotic regression for them. He's helped me towards my own first level of media presence by mentioning me on some of his radio shows, and in his articles and website. And funnily enough, I was scheduled to meet another investigator who few people would know, and just before I left he was on the Sci Fi channel on 'Sightings' in a ghost hunt which was filmed about ten years earlier! A few hours later I was in his lounge having tea with him. It can be a small world at times!

I should start with, to me, the most important. Picasso!
I didn't actually meet him, but he stared at me! I went to the South of France in the late 50's and was taken to Vallauris where he had a studio. I stood transfixed at the back of the room where he was working.(He was painting on a piece of glass, so you could see the work from the other side.) I have never forgotten that.
My first husband was at RADA with a particularly good year:
John Hurt (I have written about wheeling him home in my daughter's pram in another post), Sarah Miles, David Warner (Shakespearean actor), The Burton himself, and our good friend and best man, John Thaw.... what a darling. Terry Rigby who is in so many plays and movies but never gets remembered. He started off as Sgt Snow in Zed Cars.(The one with Radar the dog) Lots more I cant remember.
On the 25th anniversary of the Macau GP, we took a saloon car and a formula 3, as my husband was in the garage business. The next pit to ours was that of Michael Schumacher, young and arrogant then. During that same week we went up in the lift with Sterling Moss and Jackie Stewart, which was a giggle .
During our days of visiting the race track we met Piggott,(who was not as miserable as he looked) and some other jockeys, famous at the time.
Oh and finally I saw Bardot too( on that same trip to France) She was getting to be well known and looked sensational/I modelled my whole look for the next 3 years on her!
I was at Cambridge at the same time as the son of Michael Redgrave, Corin, and went out with him for about 6 months. I did have the luck to meet his dad(we went out on the river when he came up for the day) I think that was really the high spot of our relationship! I didn't meet sisters Vanessa and Lynn.

Hmmm, I've met a bunch of people most folks haven't heard of.
I met the band Marvelous 3 at a show a few years back. I also met a few members of Reel Big Fish.
I met Eddie Izzard last year.
We met Martin Sheen, Ben Affleck, Rob Reiner and Julia Louis-Dreyfus at a political rally a few years ago.
My picture in the scrapbook was taken at a Faster Pussycat show in 2000. The guy standing next to me is their lead singer, Taime Downe. I also met Brent Muscat at that show.
I met Art and Greg from Everclear before anyone knew who they were. I didn't even know who they were at the time.
I talked to Penn from Penn and Teller on the phone once.
My gram has very vivid memories of a very young Alice Cooper terrorizing the church where his father was a deacon.
Oh, and I've traded emails with Henry Rollins and Johnette from Concrete Blonde. She actually played a few of my quizzes
That about wraps it up for me.

Wow, thank you for bringing up this thread, Satguru
Ren, how neat that you got to see Picasso in person!!!
Strange as it may sound, I met Robert Duvall! But it was here in Argentina, not in the US, since I've never been to the States.
Robert Duvall's girlfriend is Argentine and he comes here often with her. He loves tango. And apparently he really likes Buenos Aires. Two weeks ago I watched an interview with him on 60 minutes and the interview took place here. It was very interesting.
Anyway, I met him three years ago. My parents and I had gone to the movies and then to the food court of the place to have lunch. Right after we sat down to eat, my dad says to me, "turn around, you will never believe who is sitting on that table". I really couldn't believe it. How often can anyone see a foreign actor here? And most of all, an actor like Duvall! He was having lunch with his girlfriend and some other people, (there was a baby with them that was very cute).
I like Robert Duvall, I think he's a very good actor. Well... I wanted to tell him Hi and something like that, but I was too embarrassed and shy so I didn't say anything! So maybe I shouldn't say I "met" him... I wish I could have talked to him, I regret that now!

I met Tom Selleck a couple of times, he's just as nice as he looks.
My mum can attest to that. A few years ago in London, she accidentally wandered into an area where they were shooting a movie, and walked into Tom Selleck. (As in actually collided with him ) Apparently he was really nice about it, and she wont hear a word said against him now!
I have met Kylie Minogue, and she is actually as short as she looks! I've also met Hugo Weaving, who was really friendly. The rest probably won't mean much to non-Aussies....John Howard, *our Prime Minister* , Glenn McGrath and Colin Miller (both cricketers, and McGrath was pretty horrible) and a few AFL players.

Since posting above I have met the Princess Royal (Princess Anne) and have photos to prove it. She was charming and asked very intelligent questions about our work, she is our patron and takes her role seriously.
Thinking back there was Robert Morley, shared a lift in a hotel in Leningrad (as it was then) back in the 70s. Elizabeth Taylor was reputed to be staying in the same hotel but no one saw her so we won't count her.
Ren, I was very interested to see that Picasso stared at you, now we know who he used as inspiration for his "Woman With a Book",

When I was much younger, I had a beer with Willie Nelson and his band at a friends house. Very nice man.
My dad and Paul Newman used to race cars together and I met Mr. Newman and played with his dogs. Also very nice man.
Sean Connery came into my store that I was manager at while he was filming a movie in my home town. He was not very nice.
Michael Gross and I had the same kind of car and we traded compliments. Nice man.
Lou Diamond Phillips waved to me as he drove by me. I was flattered; that was nice.
I had drinks one night with a few professional wrestlers after a match: Tully Blanchard (nice), Terry Taylor (nice), and Arn Anderson (not nice).
Edited to add: I almost forgot - while in college in my Astronomy class, I had the honor of meeting Clyde Tombaugh, the discoverer of the planet Pluto.

I used to live just a few miles from Broadlands, the home of the late Earl Mountbatten (uncle of the Duke of Edinburgh) and where the Queen spent her honeymoon. Members of the Royal Family would be driven past the end of the road in which I lived. Having said that the Royals get everywhere, we last had one visit our island today (in fact I expect she is still here).
I have seen the Duke of Edinburgh at least four times, the Queen at least twice, the Queen Mum, Prince Andrew and Fergie, Princess Anne (to touch and speak to) and possibly more that I can't remember.

I've met quite a few celebrities, local and world-known, through my father. When he owned a local aviation company, all sorts of people came in.
One such was Patrick Swayze. They filmed "Too Wong Foo" in a small town in Nebraska, and at the same time Patrick Swayze had just purchased a new Cessna 414. He needed to be checked out in it, so my dad gave him lessons. I met him on a number of occasions, including one opportunity to actually be with him on set while he was filming, and hang out in his trailer afterwards. My little sister and I were absolutely charmed. (I was 17, Jen was 15, and both of us were in absolute awe of his good looks...) He's such a nice guy. He introduced us to his dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback who was almost as big as he was. After meeting us the first time, he told my dad that "both your daughters have amazing eyes." *SWOON* Dad had to go with him when they moved on to filming in New York because Patrick's training wasn't through. Patrick had my mom come out twice to horse shows, (he trains horses in his spare time) and also took my dad to the Indy 500.
There is a scene in the film where Patrick's character is wearing a peach-colored pajama set, and he closes the door to their room and says something like "He's beating her again" and I'd like to go on record as saying that my little sister and I were actually the people he was talking to when he filmed that scene. John and Wesley had already gone on to New York, and Patrick was just finishing up a few scenes here in Nebraska, and he wanted two real people to be sitting in the places that John and Wesleys' characters were supposed to be. My sis and I were those two people!
Also got to meet Harrison Ford. Some of you may remember a much-publicized emergency landing here in Nebraska, wherein Mr. Ford was said to have frequented the local strip clubs. Well, he had his plane fixed at my dad's place, and one of our courtesy cars appeared large-as-life on Conan O'Brien. I met him the day he left, and he (very graciously) signed my Star Wars: A New Hope poster. He was very friendly, but in a press-hounded and suspicious kind of way.
I've also met multiple local sports stars, mostly Nebraska Cornhusker football players, as well as local politicians, including all of Nebraska's recent US congressmen and senators, just because of where I live.
When I was in high school, we did a theater production of The Martian Chronicles. The entire cast had the opportunity to conference call with Ray Bradbury, and I was able to ask him questions about my character. It was fascinating!

I met Johnny Weissmuller when he was doing promotional visits for state of Indiana Ford dealerships. He didn't seem particularly happy about being here, and spoke fewer words than he did as Tarzan.
Robert Kennedy came to town during the '68 primary and they hauled several classes to the airport to see him. I was last in line along the fence as he was shaking hands. I couldn't tell where he was with all the girls screaming, and he wasn't very tall. Then he was standing in front of me all of a sudden, so sudden it took me by surprise. I know I must've look shocked as he mocked my wide-eyed expression right back at me. Then he grinned and mussed up my hair (which wasn't as long as his).
I've seen & met John Mellencamp at the mall and around town. Hard to live here and not see or meet Mellencamp around town somewhere.
One night I was heading toward a local record store, and was walking pretty fast when I bumped into Nick Nolte who said "Hey bud" at me. I was about to say I was sorry but once I realized it was Nick Nolte, my mind just froze. He was with some well known director whose name escapes me now. They both looked at me as I looked at them (perhaps waiting for a sorry-I-bumped-into-you or asking for autographs). But the lure of the record store was too much so I just bolted out of there. Those fellows were in town as they were filming somewhere on campus or southern Indiana.
I've meet Brian Wilson and a few members of his current touring band. I have to admire his sense of humor and knowing not to take himself and his legend too seriously.
Met Harry Chapin many years ago. He was way too nice for the music business.
Also met actress PJ Soles when she was in town filming "Breaking Away". This was after she was in "Halloween" but before I saw her as Riff Randle in "Rock'N'High School". What a babe!

OK, I didn't actually speak to him, but I was just sitting underneath Arsene Wenger at an Arsenal reserve match. He was up in the directors box at a 45 degree angle opposite, so he was almost facing me. He's a lot bigger than he looks on TV, and so is his hair!

Mickey Rooney was starring in a movie that a local production company was shooting. They needed a police officer for a scene, and since I had worked there before joining the force they asked me to do it. Mickey was very nice, but he is very short. I'm 6'4", so I was much bigger than he.
I've also been lucky enough as an officer to get field assignments at Skydome. I have talked to several major league baseball players and umpires. I have a baseball given to me and signed by umpire John Hirshbeck. On my way back to the field from the umpire's room, I was walking past Ken Griffey Jr. I asked him to sign it as well, which he did. He is a very soft spoken guy, very nice, but not as big as I thought a home run hitter would be. Obviously, he is a superb athlete.
I also drove an umpire to the airport. He was flying home for one day between assignments, and the game went into extra innings. He wasn't going to make it, but a cruiser with lights and siren on is much faster than a taxi!

OK, put another badge on the anorak for me, I was just waiting in a car park in Windsor (where the queen lives) and someone asked my Dad for change for the machine. I went over too and asked him how much he needed (£20, no I didn't) and my Dad said 'Look!'- it was our comedian who was massive on TV in the 70s and 80s, Russ Abbott! As we went past the entrance we saw him at the change machine and said he'd just been given 20 pound coins and how was he supposed to carry all that around with him? It shows everyone (except maybe the royal family across the road from the car park in the castle) has normal lives and problems, and it's always nice when you meet these celebs by chance as well!

Back in the mid 1980's I wrote news, columns and features for a local news company. Bill Clinton was in the Arkansas governor's mansion then. He and Hillary had many friends up in Carroll County and often came up to visit. If he was slated to be in town one of us would have to get a statement from him {to use in a cutline under a photo} or do a full interview. We all knew about Bill Clinton. On a brighter note, Annie Potts and Tim Curry once came to our area to work on a [bad] film and it was a pleasure to meet them.

Well, I used to be in the theatre business, so I have met some. Hal Holbrook did his Mark Twain show at the college I worked at. The school also did the first not-on-broadway run of the musical 'Mack and Mabel' in many years, so one of the Sherman brothers, who wrote the music, came to the opening and afterwards we all gathered around the piano while he played (mostly Disney tunes--they wrote a lot of Disney stuff). Professionally, though, I worked at the now defunct Asian American Theatre Company in San Francisco, and had the pleasure of working with a lot of great people. The Asian entertainment crowd is not very large, so pretty much anyone "famous" will pass through a theatre like that on some occasion. One of the first shows I did with them was a work in progress by David Hwang, who wrote 'M. Butterfly'.
My husband had the fun job, though. For awhile he worked at an airport parking garage in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It's amazing how many celebrities live in N.M.! He used to bring me home all sorts of autographs--Shirley MacLain and Brian Dennehy are my favorites.

Hi!
Well, I've volunteered at a few Star Trek conventions, so I got to see a lot of the stars that go to them, I'm not sure that classifies as "meeting them". One thing I'd like to point out though is that Bill Shatner seems to be sometimes arrogant and not very fan-friendly, although he always does a lot of conventions. It's probably for $$ though, who could turn that down?
The only real "meeting" I could say is Duane Causwell, who used to be on the Sacramento Kings. I used to live next door to him.

Well, let's see...I've met Molly Holly and Spike Dudley (professional wrestlers) at a wrestling match when "Raw" was live in August 2001; I've met John Schneider, Tom Wopat, and Catharine Bach (Bo, Luke, and Daisy Duke from "The Dukes of Hazzard"). I've met Ray Reyes' father (Ray Reyes was a member of Menudo in the early 1980s). I've met Robby Rosa of Menudo during a taping of "Dancing on Air" in 1986 (I almost got to kiss him).
I've met Linda Carter in the 1970s when she was "Wonder Woman". I met Mick Foley, Lassie, and Whitney Houston in 2000 when I worked at USAirways. I met Boyz To Men in 1993 or 1994 when I worked at Channel Home Centers.
I've met Philadelphia Mayor John Street and future Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, when John Street was running for Mayor and the then outing mayor, Ed Rendell, was campaigning for him.

I doubt many in the UK haven't- now you mention it I saw the Hi de Hi show in the theatre with everyone but the jockey in it, so I must have seen her as well!

I once worked for Madison Square Garden. There I met the entire 1969 New York Knicks basketball team. Cazzie Russell taught me how to make a jump shot. In the Gaarden's bowling center, I met Dick Weber who was there for a tounament & he gave me bowling lessons. I also met Billie Jean King, Judy Garland & Liza Minnelli.
Later on in life I met Diana Ross who was very kind and gracious.

Nice I can keep this list going! (it's becoming one of my hobbies now...).
Last week a letter came through my grandma's door to say my favourite comedian, Harry Hill, would be filming opposite her house for a few days this week. I did go to see him perform a few years ago but it was cancelled when I arrived, and I hadn't tried since. When I got there nearly all the sets were built around the village green, and they were filming by a wall, where they filmed the same 2 minute scene at least 8 times (no idea what went wrong each time, but they were fiddling with the lighting a lot). He wasn't in that scene so I asked where he was as I couldn't see him in the crowd of staff, and he was under a black cloth watching the monitor. He did come out from time to time, and between takes I crept up and asked his assistant if he'd mind writing an autograph, and he came over and spent about 5 minutes talking to me. He was a really nice guy, and asked me who else I'd met over the years, and how people wait outside the BBC to meet him every time he's on the radio, and it more than made up for missing his show, as everything there is also shown on TV, but meeting him means a lot more. My 95 year old grandma came with me and sat on the bench watching while I was by the set opposite, and is now waiting for it to be on TV so she can see it all properly.

It must be a sign of old age, because I know I have met lots of celebrities, but when I try to make a list of them, I go blank!
The only really famous one who springs to mind is Queen Elizabeth II. She stopped to speak to my daughter when she was visiting Brunei on the way to the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998. At the time we were in the Amah's market while she was doing a walk-through.
I could list off a number of local celebrities but most of you would not have heard of them. There are lots in this thread I have never heard of, presumably for the same reason.
What I always find interesting is discovering which celebrities are like their public persona and which ones are not.
There are a few I have met who are very popular because of the 'face' they present to the public, but in real life, they are nowhere near as nice. In fact, some are so "up themselves", it's not funny. I always think of them as "plastic people". A case in point is Lionel Yorke, a well-known Perth radio DJ. On air, he is so syrupy sweet, and off-air, one of the rudest people I have ever met.
Some of my favourite personalities are those who I have discovered to be exactly the same in real life as they are in public. For example, Dr Harry Cooper (TV Vet) and Bryce Courtney (Australian author).
I occasionally go to book signings so I've met quite a few authors. I meet a lot of politicians and medical personalities through my work. I've met a number of magicians through Maynooth (who is also a magician). As an ex-high school teacher, some of my students have become famous in adulthood, but mostly on a local level.
When I was young, I met a lot of music personalities as I went out with a radio DJ (NOT Lionel Yorke). Some I have met include the bands Sherbert, Zoot, Ted Mulry Gang and the Dave Warner Band (I'm really dating myself here).

Most of the celebrities I've met have been mushers. I met Dee Dee Jonrowe when the pet store close to here had two booths set up, one for the local skijor club (NASSPA) and one for the Iditarod. I was helping out at the NASSPA booth (my dad is a board member, and since he was out of town, I had to take over for him), and ended up sitting next to her. She's really nice. She brought her Lab and her small dog with her. I met Ellie Claus (she's the youngest woman to enter the Iditarod) at a lecture. She got really excited when she found out that I was almost old enough to enter some junior distance races here, and offered to help me get qualified for the Jr. Iditarod and get me a good racing team.

You're right, Mothergoose. When you think back over a life time, it's easy to forget a few here and there. The ones I can remember right now are:
-Bill and Hillary Clinton
-John Boozeman [US Ark. 3rd district congressman who used to be our eye doctor]
-Tim Curry
-Annie Potts
-Johnnie Wiesmiller [Tarzan from the 30's]
-Lynard Skynard band members
-Buddy Miles
-Leon Russell
-Willie Nelson
- Lunch with Chuck Jones [Warner Brothers honcho animator]
-Paul Rugg [WB semi - honcho animator]
-George W. Bush
I would sure love to meet novelist Anne Tyler, someday. What a treat that would be.

Hmmm, I haven't met as many as you guys have, probably 'cause I get all shy when I'm around a celebrity. But I've met a few hockey players... (well, they're considered celebrities in Canada ) I met Brett the Hitman Hart, I'm not a wrestling fan, but he was walking down the same street as me once and a friend dragged me along after him as she chased him to say hi. I met one of the kids who worked in the American Pie movies once when I was in Montreal; Sean something or other, he played the silly one who said the "F" word every other word in a sentence... my friend thought he was cute so I got dragged yet again to meet the guy. That's about it, though... for now.

hi all well, let's see, i went to the first east-west and third east-west philosopher's conference at the university of hawaii in the late 1950s and had chats with d.t. suzuki, sri radhikrishnan and some place other than there met alan watts, also met several ambassadors names and countries not now recalled; spent christmas with the family of my first major girl-friend (mom was the first--maybe second--woman ambassador to represent the USA [denmark, later became minister to bulgaria and a trust territories administrator, grandfather had been a professor of botany? and invented the cereal puff process--very interesting family; i had known my girl-friend from reed college where several of us with interests that included physics had lengthy chats with (the only two i now remember were) robert oppenheimer and edward teller; one local (olympia, wa) gal [gretchen christopher--used to call me up and play/sing her latest songs and ask me what i thought of same] and got her interested in my mensa group turned out to be one of the fleetwoods singers (she composed some songs i have forgotten the names of right now--mr.blue and come softly to me?) she always thought it was cool that her songs/group topped one of elvis presley's songs, i think she was a bit taken back by my never having heard of her (keep in mind that i listened primarily to classical music)--oh that reminds me when i was trying to educate myself a bit about more popular music in nyc (ship being recommisioned in brooklyn naval yard) waltzed into a bar in manhattan and got asked by ella fitzgerald what song i wanted to hear and what drink did i want her to buy for me, all i knew about her was that she was a famous singer that was it so i asked her to pick out her own favorite song and sing it (also don't remember what drink she bought for me) sorry about that, let's see, also always had a free box seat at carnegie hall (courtesy of the levintritt foundation) remember a rehearsal that toscanini was doing and the time i met a composer sitting next to me, hope i remember his name before i conclude my remarks here started with m, and i think i may have known stephen bishop kov--something, the excellent pianist, oh yes, at berkeley high school [dave brubeck had graduated from bhs and had come back to play for us] had several sons of nobel prize winners in my chemistry class (segre, ernest lawrence, and some other guy), that was the brightest class i have ever known at any level (doctorate included). plus shook hands with a few presidents don't remember which ones now. goodhealthpeacelovejoy drbob ps, i am sure i have forgotten a bunch more, oh well, also it was martinu that was the composer.

The lift doors opened to meet a President surrounded by the 5 biggest body guards I've ever seen. Amongst apprehensive looks and moving hands. I got the next lift down and he was whisked away.

*lothruin lays the scene for Gats*
You're waiting for an elevator. One comes to rest at your floor and the doors open to reveal a President and 5 body guards (or secret service, or whoever, depending to which country the president belongs). Startled looks pass both ways, hand signals are passed, you step aside to wait for another elevator while the President is hustled away from the obvious danger you pose.

I honestly think Gats understood the premise of this little vignette ...but maybe questioned the abstract fashion in which it was told?
We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

*slaps self silly* I understood that the poster was describing the scene of a President stepping off an elevator, entourage in tow. I was wondering which President, that sort of thing. The post did a reasonable job of describing a scene but, as per the thread theme, failed to mention the "who the heck was he?" part. Or maybe it doesn't matter...

I assumed he was not only a US president - but the sitting president, for some reason. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

hhmmmm sounds like he was standing up...sorry, I have a lapse of good joke sense!
This is an interesting thread. I have a couple to add. I also saw Hal Holbrook perform his Mark Twain portrayal. I enjoyed it but I was in far, far, far back of my college auditorium. I might as well have seen him on tv!
I went to a concert of country western star Travis Tritt a number of years ago. I had a bit of a crush, and so, I sent him a rose. (didn't get to give it to him personal... )
Twenty + years ago I was in the front row to hear John Houseman speak about the (then) controversial topic of black and white film coloration. Houseman played Professor Charles W. Kingsfield on the tv show, Paper Chase. (anyone remember this 78 tv show?? I loved it!) I was soooo excited because I was part of the journalism staff at my college (my first time in school ) and that is why I got to sit up close.
This last fall, back stage, I met The Smothers brothers: Tommy and Dick Smothers. Anyone remember this 70s comedy duo that had a Comedy Hour variety show? They were my first crush (LoL) was a kid. Although, for the life of me I can't remember which one I thought was cuter. I ACTUALLY told Tommy that I'd had a crush on them. How crazy is that?!
They showed family video and pictures from their childhood as well as their old show. And evidently (I didn't remember this, I guess I was too young) they were fired for their stand against the Vietam war. It was a great show and they were very gracious while visiting with everyone.

I met Frank McCourt (at a book signing at the Museum of the CIty of New York). He was really funny on stage (talking about his newest book, Teacher Man, which is about his experiences as a NYC teacher, including Stuyvesant High School, my school!), but afterwards, he seemed grumpy and tired, not that I blame him. If I were in my 70's and just spoke for 1/2 an hour, I'd be a bit gruff too.

<--feels silly, Gats.
I met someone else famous this week, though perhaps not very well-known if you aren't a needlework enthusiast, and mostly in America, I think. (Though I know her books have really struck it fairly big in the UK, at least.) Debbie Stoller did a book signing here for her new crochet book, The Happy Hooker. She's the author of two previous books, those focused on knitting, the first entitled Stitch 'n' ... well, we'll just say Stitch 'n' Witch, then won't we. And the second, SnB Nation. Her books are usually described as "not your grandma's knitting" but judging from the crowd at the book signing, that isn't really true. The projects in her books are "hip" or "fresh" but also lovely and functional, and all but SnB Nation are really excellent resources for new crafters as well. Nation is mostly patterns, or so I've heard. I didn't invest in that one because I didn't like enough of the patterns quite well enough. Anyway, I guess I'm babbling, but it was really very interesting. She's a great public speaker, her talk was really entertaining, and the only fault I could find was that it didn't last long enough.

HI all
I don't know if this counts but I stood behind John Howard (Prime Minister of Australia) at an ATM in Sydney one time. I remember thinking before he turned around ...My the back of this guy looks like John Howard...
You would think that the elected head of the country would have people to do that for him?

Interesting thought. Would YOU give your PIN to an employee so they could check your bank balance? I have never given thought to how such people get cash from the bank, it would be interesting to find out - probably their wives/husbands do it for them.

I met Robert Redford once when I was a kid at his Sundance Ski Resort Restaurant. I've also met Olympic athletes, Ed Eyestone (distance runner), Henry Marsh (steeple chase), and Curt Brinkman (wheelchair marathoner). And Moses Malone, former National Basketball Association player. One person I've met and conversed with for a few moments is John Huntsman, billionaire philanthropist. What a nice man he is.

Karl Malone - Utah Jazz - very nice man
Maury Povich - A dork, and fake
Leeza Gibbons - Nice
Shelley Long - Shallow
John Walsh - "America's Most Wanted" - A genuinely good person
President George W. Bush - Shook his hand
Johnny Whittaker - remember "Family Affair"?
Irene Ryan - Granny from "The Beverly Hillbillies" - I was a kid and she gave me a piece of cake while my Dad cleaned her pool.
Dick Sargent - From "Bewitched"
Slim Pickens and Denver Pyle (The Dukes of Hazzard) came into the gas station where I worked. Both very nice.
Jimmy Osmond - kind of bland
Neil Patrick Harris - "Doogie Howser" - snob
There have been others over the years in different places. These are the ones who come to mind and my impressions.

For all the Aussies here, I've met a few cricketers over the years - I've umpired Shane Watson, Martin Love, Wade Seccombe, Joe Dawes, Adam Dale, James Hopes, Heath Davis etc. I've met and/or had a few beers with Andy Bichel, Jimmy Maher, Stuart Law, Martin Kent, Sam Trimble, Glenn Trimble, Tony Dell, Dirk Tazelaar, Carl Rackemann, Ian Davis, Malcolm Francke, Geoff Dymock, Phil Carlson....

Ah, cricket, that's another reminder (as with guilt by association I seem to only get fame by association!), besides running on the pitch at the final Ashes test match at the Oval in 1975, where my friend patted David Steel on the arm having just injured it, which didn't go down too well, I was walking past a local pitch in Surrey and realised coming on the pitch after tea was our then current captain, Alex Stewart, with his son.
It turned out it was a regular charity match, and besides the actor George Layton, who I actually knew from where I used to work, Tony Meo the snooker player was also fielding though I can't remember any other major names that afternoon as I was busy watching Alex Stewart who I always greatly admired. I went to another one the year after, and besides Alan Butcher, the father of the current batsman Mark, who was fielding, the only other fairly famous name was Mark Austin, the newsreader, who was watching it, who signed my programme. Of course within a day or two I saw him again on TV!

Pope John Paul II.
I went to a Catholic school and I was on some sort of welcoming committee for the pope. I had a short conversation with him. I don't remember a whole lot except thinking that he was very old. But I guess everyone seems old when you are 13!
