The new season (Season 4) starts on Showtime Sunday 9/27. I started watching Season 1 online before last season and was instantly hooked and it is easily my favorite show.

Love it! It appeals to my warped sense of humour. Unfortunately I got hooked on the first series, which was on normal TV. I haven't got satellite TV so have to wait for the DVDs. Just seen series 3, which I didn't think was quite as good as the first two.
The TV series is a little more user friendly than the books, which are a lot darker.

I am an avid fan of the show. I even got my hubby interested in this one. It is strange to find yourself liking a man who does what he does, but he only kills those that are GUILTY and not likely to be caught by the authorities. I have recently found out that John Lithgow will be a fixture in the new season, I didn't read further as I wanted to be surprised. For this reason I haven't read any of the books. I have done the same for True Blood as well, which is probably for the best because I'd notice the changes.

I'll have to say the thing that bothered me about season 3 was the lack of Dexter actually killing people (as warped and morbid as that sounds). lol. Season 2 had it's moments for me as well...as it started to feel a bit soap operaish. Loved season 1 though and have enjoyed every season as a whole.
BurgGurl, I'm excited to see John Lithgow...he's an awesome actor and is very capable of playing a very dark character. I also haven't read any of the books...yet.

Haven't had time yet, but I bookmarked it on the DVR, maybe in the next day or so!

Dexter's my new favorite show currently on TV since BSG finished up. I think I'm just realizing now that they really needed someone like Doakes - somebody who could figure out Dexter. Speaking of which, does anybody get the impression that Lundy figures something is up with Dexter, or is it just me?

Agree with you completely, illiniman, about both Lundy and Doakes. The Doakes character and the interaction between him and Dexter was great. I think Lundy and maybe Quinn are thinking something is up with Dex.

I don't want to spoil the most recent episode for anyone, so if you haven't seen it, stop reading here:
I wonder if Quinn is thinking that Dexter is going to blackmail him at some point for taking the money so he'll start following Dexter looking to get some dirt on him as well. I always like it when somebody gets in Dexter's way that doesn't fit the code.

Good point illiniman, that's probably what'll happen. I also like how Dex manipulates the code sometimes.

I like "Dexter". It's a great de-stresser. I'm only through the second season but it's really good.

Lithgow as Trinity is a great addition to the storyline. He is such a fine actor.
Darn, I liked Anton. Deborah continues as a trainwreck. I do think she has grown in that role, though. She is a much better actor as the seasons pass.
Sometimes I wish the next person in a plastic covered room would be Rita. I'm not too impressed with what a naive pain they make her out to be.
Not sure what the deal is with the LaGuerta/Angel storyline. It's like they have a couple characters too many to juggle around. Eventually I'm sure it will all play in.

***SPOILER ALERT***
If you don't watch this season as they occur, best to ignore my post and future posts.
So who shot Deb and Lundy? I did think it was Trinity, even though Dex took the files, but was it just random?
Tredici, you aren't the only one that is getting tired of the Rita character. LOL. I really don't like the way they have written her character this season. At all.

*SPOILER*
Well pyonir, after this last episode I got the weird feeling that it was Quinn's reporter girlfriend. I'll admit that when they got shot I thought it was Anton, but he has since disappeared. Of course, Masuka did demonstrate that somebody his height did it... maybe he has an insane streak in him.

Masuka cracks me up. One of my favorite moments of the season so far is when he drops Dexter off at home. The camera pulls back to reveal Masuka's vehicle as a monster truck. When he drives off we are left seeing Dexter watching him drive off. Without saying a word, the look on his face is perfect.
I agree, they are trying to point the blame towards Quinn's creepy reporter girlfriend. I'm trying to recall why she would've started following Deborah around though. And what killing Lundy would accomplish for her? I can't quite put it together just with wanting a story.

My son was Dexter for Halloween (twice!) this year.
I got to make the "blood" (corn syrup and red food coloring) and ever-so-artfully applied the spatters on his face.

It's a pretty good theory that it's the reporter. She was dying to do a follow up "hero" story on Deb after it. So she shoots Deb in a spot she knows she won't kill her, and the look on her face when Deb said she'd do the hero piece finally. And the shooter was the height of Vince, that matches the reporter as well. It also makes a nice story line so that Dex has to find a way to kill Quinn's girlfriend...with Quinn already suspicious of Dex.
Verbonica, that's awesome!

Wow. This has turned into the best season ever as far as I'm concerned. All though I did enjoy season two with the Doakes character quite a bit, too.
Lithgow is such a great actor. So tell the truth, how many of you had your eyebrows shoot up when Quinn's girlfriend opened her door to see Arthur and says "Hi Dad".
DumDumDUM! The plot begins to thicken (and to make sense).
I like the tension in allowing Deborah to become a good cop and almost figuring out who Trinity is before Dexter has the chance to eliminate him.
Still don't think much of the Bautista/LaGuerta storyline and the two or three times per episode of them meeting up in the hallway or elevator is becoming repitiously annoying. They seem to have so many characters to juggle, bringing in a new neighbor to hit on Rita seemed rather pointless, too.
I like how the Dexter character is evolving. Choosing Trinity as a 'mentor' is more pointing out to him how he doesn't want to be when it comes to living in his family environment. I think they are setting the stepson Cody up to be the one Dexter will mentor in the future.
Can't wait for Sunday nights!

haha, even when she says "Hi Dad" my dad (who really doesn't like the show) said out loud "What!?".
The one thing I do like about the neighbor is it gives Vince a reason to want to talk to Dex, but not know how to tell him. It shows that Vince really likes Dex as a friend and is worried how his friend will take the news. I think it'll be interesting when he does tell him, to see what Dex will do. His neighbor is a father and a good father (so it seems). He doesn't really fit the code, since he didn't hurt Rita or the kids. Perhaps it's a storyline for next season.
I think Cody is going to be Trinity's target now...since he's about 10 years old or so, right? Who knows but I'm really looking forward to the next two episodes!
