Just wanted to let people know that the last round of GMM that was supposed to reset on the hour didn't.

This is still out of sync. The time is showing that a new game has started but the old game is still running.
Also, I don't think the scores for last month are correct. They appear to be the scores for January, not February.

Is this linked to the change to Daylight Saving Time?

Not really sure if it is related to Daylight Savings Time. W hat I do know is that the timer reset as if it were the next 6-hour set, but it still showed that I had played and had to wait for the next set to begin.

I think it is -- it appears to be an hour off.
This is why we don't play those silly daylight savings time games in Arizona

I played early today, and scored well. I was looking forward to the next set. When the clock reset and said that a new round had started, I tried to play and was told I already had. So the clock reset, but the play didn't (if that makes any sense). It was well beyond the one hour difference to compensate for DST the last time I tried to play, so I don't think it is just the difference in time here (and I do agree it is silly). I do think it might have something to do with the hour change, but I'm not sure what!

This last set was an hour off -- it didn't switch until the time showed five hours left. Not sure about the earlier set...

Well, I was just able to play a few minutes ago, so you are probably right, PDAZ, that there is some mismatch between the clock resetting and the actual questions themselves. I don't think it is just one hour, though, but I guess Terry will be able to figure it out. At least I got to play! Wish I had played better, but I played.

The games are all running normally on their regular cycles. Due to the time switch, some of the displayed countdowns are off by 1 hour. Hopefully I just fixed them...

Still not working. Currently the timer shows 5 hours and 50 minutes left but the last game is still showing.

Now it shows 4 hours and 50 minutes and it's still showing the same game...

Of course it is - because I got a poor score this time around. The ghost in the machine saw its opportunity and pounced the second I didn't get a top 10 - said aha! Let's let a 12-hour amount of people to play once I get a bad score.
Nah, seriously, if I was more paranoid, I might this was the case as at times it does seem that I get shafted (and it does seem to happen to me more than everyone else combined) at seemingly random times.
However, seriously, though, it would be nice to see one of these glitches/freezes/etc. actually work in my favor for once instead of the other way around. (rolleyes)

The same thing happened the other day. It appeared to skip a whole round (leaving play open for 12 hours) before resetting one hour later than expected (due to DST, as PDAZ noted then).

Daylight savings time messes up our server software's scheduling, which is a real annoyance (and a reason why I may change all games to GMT to keep things simple).
Are the timers all working properly now?

>> Daylight savings time messes up our server software's scheduling, which is a real >> annoyance (and a reason why I may change all games to GMT to keep things simple). yep, it'd make life easier. GMT is a constant, it's not a moveable feast. Do either of these posts, from 9 years ago, ring a bell? Quote:

(Americans would call today 2/12/00, europeans would call it 12/2/00. Confusing, no? Yes!) Since we have a world-wide group, a common time is fair. And since we already have a universal time in place at zero meridian, why not use it? Get us all on the same clock.

In aviation, actually we need to know both UT and local time. When talking to other aircraft, controllers et al in other parts of the world, it's a great help to have a common time reference. We also need to know more than one local time (origin of flight, waypoints and destination times.) Does that get confusing? You bet it does, that's why UT (GMT) is a great help. Many groundpounders (passengers, people meeting aircraft and the general non-flying population) have trouble dealing with concepts outside their immediate frame of reference, so we cater to them with their own local times.
Another concept a lot of Americans can't seem to handle is 24-hour (military) time. Aviation uses it everywhere except on posted schedules in the US.
And altitude? Easy to say "we were flying at 39,000 feet." Well, is that MSL (above Mean Sea Level) or AGL (Above Ground Level)? Altimeters must be adjusted for the barometric pressure at destination ground level in order to effect a descent and land at Zero feet.

I'd be in favor of UT, only leaves one time for everyone to reference and makes things a heck easier especially with all those DST changes coming at different dates across the world. (FT time was -7 CET all winter, is now CET -6 due to the US DST, late March it will go back to -7 again when we Euros change as well...)
Just make it easy and let's all do the worldwide standard. Plus, wouldn't it kinda be fitting to see a suggestion by Gunslinger implemented?
