Concerts then, concerts now.
About 35 years ago...spur of the moment... I hopped in a Chevy van (or was it a Ford?) with some friends and took off to Little Rock to see the Allman Brothers Band in concert.
I must admit, my memory is hazy. I remember it was a good....no, make that VERY good, concert. The Marshall Tucker Band opened, and they were fantastic.
Last weekend, I had a chance to go see the Allman Brothers Band once again. My goodness, has it really been 35 years? Needless to say, it wasn't quite the same. Greg Allman, although aging (he even uses a cane) is still very good vocally. I'm not sure how many founding members are still in the group......only two, maybe three, I think.....but the new guys were pretty good.
You know how, in the middle of a concert, there seems to always be a drum solo, a L-O-N-G drum solo.....giving the other musicians a break off stage? Well, this concert was no different.
In brief, the "solo" ended up being a four man jam session, and I have never enjoyed a percussion intermission more. It was incredible.
It wasn't the concert of 35 years ago, but it was fun and I wasn't disappointed.
At least I'll be able to remember this one. :-)
