Update

Time is surely flying by!  I've finally taken the plunge (for the second time) into Gold Membership.  Since I don't do a whole lot of quizzes on that side of the site, I'll wait and see if it is a good thing to put my money into.  ;)

I seem to be spending more time here lately, probably because I'm home more lately.  I spent a week in the hospital in May, starting in the General ward with pneumonia, and winding up in Cardiology.  Two days after I "got out," it was determined my husband has cancer.  Now we are going through chemotherapy and the Doctor tells us it is going to be a long haul, not something that can be fixed in a hurry.  I pray it is fixable.  We just celebrated our 44th anniversary and would surely like to make it to 60 or 70 years.

So, it would seem that Fun Trivia is my "escape" from the daily dose of reality.  Fun Trivia reality is so very much better than the junk reality on television.  Probably why I don't spend much time watching except for baseball, basketball or hocky.  :)

Thinking maybe I'll start a diary, on paper!  :)

Almost here!

Well, completion is almost here!   Tomorrow the new carpeting goes in ~~ yippee!  Now that doesn't mean I'm done working on it, just done with all the projects that other people were scheduled to do.  Whew!

The new quartz counter top went in without a hitch (well, but then we don't have any horses here ).  I hooked up the water for the refrigerator ice maker ~ no leak.  (whew again!)  I've changed out all the electrical outlet covers with walnut covers.  The the wall (or backsplash) was tiled and grouted up to the cabinets, all the way around the kitchen.  In my brilliance I decided that I did not want the tile behind the range top to get greasy or dirty, so right then and there I got on the phone to the local glass shop.

Finding out that the glass I would need should be tempered (resistant to heat) I took the measurements for the area above the range top and, the above the sink!  The area above the range top is 30x30 inches, and above the sink it is 44x6.25 inches.  When I went to the glass shop they were certainly curious as to why I'd want to pieces of tempered glass in such odd measurements.  When I told them what it was for, they said "well, that's a first for us!"  However, now that the glass in in place I couldn't be happier.  Now I will just have to clean down nice smooth glass instead of rough porcelain tile, and the tile will be staying neat and clean.  I know, I know, I'm out of my mind!

Today I rehung the wine glass holders under the cabinets, cleaned and re-hung the last mini blind, as well as hanging the long portions of the window treatments.  Then this afternoon the painter came for the last time and re-hung all the valances.  I'm so glad this is almost over.  But, as I've stated, there is lots of other stuff to do.  After all, if the carpets are new, new flooring, painting, then I'm sure as shootin' going to have everything in the place clean!  So I have the powder room walls to wipe down, paint the trim in there, and then do a bit of re-placing of things around the house.

Hopefully pretty soon I'll be able to take a photo of a couple of the rooms and post them in the Photography Thread in the Forums.  Then I'll collapse and relax for a day or two.  Either that, or actually wrap the Christmas presents!

Ohh, the paint of it all!

Well, going from bad to worse.  I just wrote two pages of update, moved the mouse to get it out of the way, and everything disappeared!  I think it's to bed for me without dinner.  I'll just have to post my ordeal this week when I have a bit more time.  **sniff**sniff**

Why?

Just why is it that sometimes we can be so changeable?

Why is it that out of the clear blue sky someone can say something that just wants to make you cry?

Why is it that out of the clear blue sky someone can say something that just irritates you and makes you angry the next minute?

Why is it that we can be just so moody!

There are at least three people in the Forums that have written posts or private messages that have meant so much to me it has brought me to tears.  And the other person probably has no idea just how much it meant to me.  Is it the growing closeness one feels for the people here?  Is it just a mood?  Can we really be close friends on the internet?

Then, there are people that have said something that makes me really angry, unreasonable, and thoughtless.  Yet they have no idea what they said or written has had that impact on me?  Is that also the growing closeness?  Is it, too just a mood?

Is it because the written word leaves so much to be desired,  or that people simply cannot write their feelings?  Do we leave out of our writing our true feelings?  Or, could it simply be that we are afraid to allow our feelings to show?

There are several people on this site that mean so very much to me, yet they will never know how close I feel to them.  My dream would be to some day meet these people -- although I realize that could never happen for me.

The saga continues

Well, it is the week for "one step forward and two steps back."  Friday we re-seated the toilet in the powder room.  Saturday it was leaking.  I had grouted around the base, only to find it was not drying.  I discovered a drip from the tank and my husband and I were discussing which part was leaking.  I was all for the seal between the tank and base, my husband insisted it had to be the bolts holding the tank on the base.

I must insert here that my dear husband tries so very hard, but he simply is not a plumber.  What takes most people one or two tries, takes him 12 attempts before it get done correctly.  Well, possibly I exaggerate a bit.  He does remind me of Dr. Huxtable and his aggression in doing plumbing repairs.  I try very hard not to let him do anything in the plumbing arena.  I am usually the handyman around the house, and he supplies male muscles when needed.

So there we were "discussing" where the leak was when the painter came in and took a look.  He is a very nice man, does all sorts of things construction-wise, and started looking at the toilet.  His response was "Well, you may have a leak there, but you have a bigger problem here!"  Turns out the base of the toilet had cracked -- we had evidently tightened the bolts down too hard and the porcelan slowly cracked.

Today it was off to Lowe's to buy a new toilet.  You know, all the toilets today are the "low flow" type toilet so as to not waste water.  (Thank you kindly Mr. Gore!)  Ugh -- now we all know it's the "suck" that makes the toilet work, and without that, it just is not the same!  Without that, it just isn't the same.  In any case, I installed the base,  being very careful not to tighten the bolts too much.  Then I attached the tank and the water supply.  Carefully, ever so carefully, I turned on the water.  No leak!  yet...  I've flushed and flushed!  Still no leak.  So, keep your fingers crossed it will still be dry tomorrow.

I must be prophetic!  Three days before the pipe burst in the kitchen we were discussing putting in a new floor.  Oh dear, we're doing much more than that now!  And a couple days before the toilet broke I suggested maybe we should put in a new one.  Hmmm, I wonder if I tightened those bolts too hard on purpose!

Then I attacked the kitchen.  I finally got the trash compactor all cleaned up, looking all spiffy and new, managed to get it back in it's proper spot under the (old) countertop and it, too, works again.  Yippee!  And lastly, I at long last got the frame re-installed around the microwave in the wall.  It's been a long day and then a sleepless night.  But, if the powder room is not full of water (heaven forbid!) then we know the installation of our brand new potty is a success!
