My Dog

You may think that this will be about a dog that I have, but THAT IS NOT THE CASE!  I'm actually going to talk about a dog I ONCE had.

Not too long ago, maybe six months ago, my family bought a dog.  He wasn't the best looking dog, but that all changed when we got him a haircut and had him groomed.  My mom was actually out at the grocery store, and decided to head to the Humane Society on the way home.  We had been looking for a dog for about a month, now.  She texted me a picture of the dog, who was a silky terrier, and asked if she should bring him home.  I said "Sure," but she decided to let me play with him for a while first.  My sister was out of town at the time.  It would be a surprise for her.

So I was picked up about half an hour later, and we headed back to the Human Society.  Nearly two hours later, we owned a dog!  We brought him to the groomer's, and left to go eat.  We weren't able to pick him up until nearly 10:00 that night, and we had already done all of our "dog shopping."  We finally got home at nearly 11:00 that night, and my sister was VERY surprised!

My mom wasn't too sure about getting a dog, and only got him for us.  She wanted him to stay in the bathroom at night.  Well, this was not a good idea.  He didn't like being in there, and eventually pooped on the carpet in there... AND the floor.  My dad and I didn't like cleaning it up.  He hadn't pooped all day, at least that is what the Humane Society said, but they didn't think it was a big deal.  This was the only time he ever pooped.

The next day, we had to leave, and my mom put him in the bathroom so he wouldn't terrorize the house, but we accidentally forgot to leave him with water.  So when we got back, he rushed to his water dish, and then head outside to throw up.

Only a day or two later, I began crying, not really knowing why.  I finally decided that we got the dog at the wrong time.  My schooling wasn't doing great, I was stressed about my mom going into surgery, and there was a LOT of stuff going on that made me stressed and depressed.  Although I loved that dog, I finally made the decision to get rid of him.  My parents respected my decision, and that night he slept in my sister's room, and we sent him back the next day.  I cried the whole way there, holding him close, not sure if I was making the right decision.

Now that nearly six months have passed, I feel I made the right choice.  Although my entire family misses him a LOT, even my mom, who HATES animals, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  I cried for a while after, as I knew that was the only dog we would ever have.  I wasn't able to handle him then, and although it would be easier now, the small amount of time we had him changed my life.  I don't think I want another dog.  They are a lot of work, and even eating was different.  My mom had held him one night, and we out to dinner, and she dropped some pasta on her shirt, and flung it back onto her plate.  This grossed her out, and made her lose her appetite, and mine, too.  I don't want to deal with the burden-and I mean that as challenge more than actual burden-of a dog.
