Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Teresa

Teresa is a former Number 1 and Clare's former mentor, and the reason she became a Claymore. A powerful warrior with excellent battle analysis skills, she finds Clare in a youma-infested village and Clare follows her around. Although she is harsh towards Clare at first, she soon develops a bond with the little girl and when Clare is kidnapped by bandits, Teresa slaughters them in revenge. This gets her marked for death by the Organisation, as Claymores are not allowed to kill humans.

A squad of Claymores is sent to kill Teresa and one of them, a particularly powerful and enthusiastic young Number 2 called Priscilla, almost awakens while fighting Teresa, to the point where Teresa has to tap into 10% of her youma energy (her pupils turn gold and slitted) to fight her. Priscilla begs Teresa to put her out of her misery, only to cut off Teresa's hands and head before completely awakening and killing two of her former team mates, Noel and Sophia. She ends up becoming the most dangerous enemy in the story, while Clare has Teresa's severed head implanted in her body and becomes a Claymore. In the climax of the manga, Teresa's spirit takes over Clare's body, transforming her and finally defeating Priscilla.

The picture is the 'smiley face' symbol. Teresa is known as 'Teresa of the Faint Smile'; the reason for this is because she is such an excellent all-rounder that no particular skill stands out, and she is mainly recognisable by her almost permanent smile.
2. Roxanne

Roxanne is one of a trio of former Number 1s turned Abyssal Ones who were resurrected by the Organisation as a secret weapon against Claymores uprising. She has a doll-like face and a cruel personality, and in her awakened form, she has tentacles and a cobra-like head. In her previous life, she killed Cassandra. When she is deployed, she attacks the younger Claymores but is stopped by Cassandra, who has a score to settle, and eventually awakens after Cassandra bites off her arm. The two end up fighting each other. After Roxanne fires her remaining blades at Miria, Cassandra eats her alive.

The picture is a pair of gloves with 'LOVE' and 'HATE' on the knuckles. Roxanne's nickname is 'Roxanne of Love and Hate' because of her habit of befriending other Claymores, getting close to them and copying their techniques, only to leave them to die in mysterious 'accidents'. One of her victims, a Number 9 called Nadeen with youki-sensing abilities, had lost an eye before becoming a Claymore and wore an eyepatch; after 'befriending' her, Roxanne copied her by slashing out one of her own eyes and wearing an eyepatch over it, which freaked the other Claymores out. She healed her eye after Nadeen's death while fighting a low-ranking youma, an incident that made other Claymores suspicious because a single-digit Claymore normally would not have died fighting such a weak opponent.
3. Undine

Undine is Number 11 and one of the squad leaders in the Northern Campaign, along with Veronica, Jean, Miria and Flora. She is arrogant and hot-headed, and has little patience for weaker Claymores, seeing them as a nuisance. She uses youki to beef herself up and give herself a muscular appearance, and is physically very strong; for instance, when an Awakened Being that can manipulate youki tries to force Undine to cut her own throat, she manages to move her hands and cut her face instead. However, the Awakened Being uses Undine's technique against her by forcing her muscles to expand, breaking her armour, and she nearly awakens. Deneve, who is on Undine's squad, pushes her out the way and tries to attack the Awakened Being; with the help of Undine lending her her strength, Deneve manages to cut its head off. Although Undine argues with Miria, she also compliments her on her plan to take half the youki-suppressing pills.

Deneve walks in on Undine while going to get supplies and discovers that she is actually very thin and frail-looking when she is not using her youki to increase her muscles. Undine is angry and orders her to leave, but Deneve calms her down and gains her respect. Undine is later killed by Silver Lion King Rigaldo when he targets the squad leaders, and Deneve mourns her death.

The picture shows a pair of crossed swords. Undine's nickname is 'Undine of the Twin Swords' because she carries two swords, her own and a sword belonging to a dead friend. Deneve correctly figures out that Undine does this because her dead friend looked up to her and Undine was upset about not being able to protect her, and carries her sword to honour her. After Undine dies, Deneve takes up her sword and uses Undine's friend's sword as Undine's grave marker.
4. Dietrich

Dietrich appears after the timeskip and is ranked Number 8. A small Claymore with her hair in pigtails, she makes up for her lack of size by being able to jump very high and then slice her opponent while coming down. She is very loyal to the Organisation, but eventually defects. Deneve and Helen come to her rescue when she is attacked by an Awakened Being and try to knock her out, but she escapes. She protects Helen from an attack after deciding that she and Deneve are friends, not enemies. Deneve and Helen ask her to keep the incident quiet but she feels duty-bound to report it to the Organisation out of loyalty; however, if she pretends to be kidnapped by the other two, then she can get out of reporting them.

When the trio run into the Abyssal One Isley, who is battling with the Abyss Feeders, Dietrich goes to Rabona to warn Miria and Tabitha about their new enemies. She is shocked when she learns the truth about the Organisation and that they are the ones creating the youma, and defects. At the end of the manga, she loses to former Number 3 Galatea, now a nun, in a drinking contest.

The dog in the picture is a bloodhound, known for its tracking skills. Dietrich is known as 'Tracker Dietrich' because of her excellent tracking skills, which she uses to follow Deneve and Helen, even though both Claymores are suppressing their youki to avoid being spotted. She also uses a piece of Riful's dress as bait to lure some Abyss Feeders to Yuma's location, and the Abyss Feeders attack the creatures being spawned by the Destroyer.
5. Miria

Miria is the Number 6 of Clare's generation and becomes the leader of the group known as the Seven Ghosts, the survivors of the Northern Campaign, which also includes Deneve, Helen, Clare, Tabitha, Yuma and Cynthia. Like others on the Northern Campaign, she has previously come close to awakening. She is a squad leader and the overall leader of the Claymores in the Northern Campaign (and the only squad leader who survives), and comes up with a plan to take half of the youki-suppressing pills they are given so that the enemy will assume a Claymore who loses consciousness is dead and will leave her alone. She also divides the Claymores into mixed-ability squads so that they all gain experience fighting. Although six others survive thanks to her plan, she still feels guilty for the many deaths in the campaign.

When Miria, Helen, Clare and Deneve are sent on a dangerous mission, Miria thinks that the Organisation are trying to get rid of them because they partially awakened, and warns them of the top 5 Claymores and that they must be avoided (though Galatea, the Number 3, becomes an ally later). After the timeskip, Miria tries to take down the Organisation alone, attacking the Claymores but not killing them; they cut her down and the Organisation assumes they killed her, but instead, they spare her life, although she has an X-shaped scar on her face. When the Claymores rebel against the Organisation and Miria discovers the truth about youma from Rimuto, the leader, she kills him.

The photo is of a poster for 'Phantom of the Opera'. Miria's nickname is 'Phantom Miria' because of her superhuman speed; she moves so fast, she leaves after-images or 'Phantom Mirages', making her difficult to catch (although some super-powered enemies, like Priscilla, are able to keep up with her). To keep up with Hysteria, who is even faster, she partially awakens, with her pupils turning slitted, her facial veins bulging and her teeth becoming sharper, and appears to pass through her opponent's body.
6. Anastasia

Anastasia is one of the Claymores who appears after the timeskip and is the new Number 7. She has long curly hair and uses strands of her hair, fused with youki, as a tightrope to walk on. She is one of the more reasonable Claymores and believes that as a single-digit, it is her duty to protect weaker Claymores and set an example. She is rescued by Deneve, Tabitha and Helen when her party is attacked by Awakened Beings. She fights Hysteria the Elegant, another former Number 1 resurrected by the Organisation, but is injured and has to be rescued by her team mate Nike; however, Miria makes use of her hair to lure Hysteria into the fight between Cassandra and Roxanne.

The picture shows a heron being chased by a smaller bird. Note the wings: Anastasia's nickname is 'Winged Anastasia' because although she cannot actually fly, walking on the strands of her hair makes her look as though she's floating. However, the technique becomes useless if an enemy figures it out and cuts the strands of hair, as the Awakened Being Europa does when she goes rogue and attacks Rabona.
7. Cassandra

Cassandra is a former Number 1 and one of the three Number 1s to be resurrected by the Organisation, and the most benevolent. She has a personal grudge against Roxanne after Roxanne went on a mission with the Number 35 at the time, Cassandra's only friend among the Claymores, and left her to die at the hands of an Awakened Being, claiming that she didn't want to 'spoil the fun'. Cassandra attacked Roxanne in a rage, only for Roxanne to stab her and the other Claymores to cut her down and kill her.

When Cassandra regains her memories while fighting current Number 3 Audrey and awakens, she turns into a giant human figure with tentacles, with copies of her head on them. The heads eat Roxanne, with Cassandra commenting on how disgusting she tastes. After killing Roxanne, she abandons the battle. Later, Cassandra is assimilated into Priscilla - Priscilla's arm was used to resurrect Cassandra, making her susceptible to Priscilla's control - but forces herself out of Priscilla's body when Teresa calls out to her via Clare. Cassandra and Teresa fight, before Teresa kills her at her request and enables her to die happy.

The animal in the picture is an echidna, a burrowing animal. Cassandra has a bizarre fighting technique that bears some resemblance to burrowing, and it earns her the nickname of 'Cassandra the Dust Eater'. Cassandra rapidly moves from side to side while lowering her body to the ground, enabling her to attack the enemy's legs. However, she gets dirt on her face and Roxanne gave her the nickname after spying on her and being disgusted by Cassandra's technique. Cassandra often went on hunts alone because the other Claymores avoided her.
8. Ophelia

Ophelia is the Number 4 of Clare's generation and has a reputation for being unstable, violent and cruel. As a child, her brother was killed by Priscilla and she hates Awakened Beings because of it. In the past, Miria's friend Hilda gave Ophelia her black card to give to Miria, hoping Miria would kill her before she awakened, only for Ophelia to cruelly tear it up. Hilda later turned into an Awakened Being and Miria was forced to kill her, but did not recognise her until it was too late. She almost awakened as a result and Ophelia tried to goad her into fully awakening.

When Ophelia meets Clare, she cuts off Clare's legs and plays a 'game' with her, ordering her to try and reattach her legs before she kills Raki, a young boy who has befriended Clare. An Awakened Being interrupts the fight and Clare and Raki escape, but Ophelia chases them and attacks Clare; however, Irene fends her off and gives Clare her arm. Ophelia later awakens, turning into a snake-like creature, but does not realise she has awakened until she tries to drown Clare and sees her own reflection. She challenges Clare to cut her up without awakening. Clare defeats and kills her and Ophelia dies with a smile on her face, hoping to be reunited with her dead brother.

The picture shows a ripple in water, and Ophelia gave herself the nickname of 'Rippling Ophelia' because of the way her sword technique works. (It's certainly nicer than her other nickname of 'the Blood-Smeared Wicked Warrior'.) Ophelia rapidly shakes her sword arm, making her sword vibrate and look like it is rippling. Nobody who has seen the technique has survived, according to Ophelia, and she uses it to destroy Clare's arm after severing it. However, Clare uses Irene's arm as a replacement.
9. Miata

Miata is a young but extremely powerful Claymore who appears after the timeskip and is ranked at Number 4, although she is strong enough to be a Number 1. Like her predecessor Ophelia, she is severely mentally unstable and acts like a feral child; she latches on to Clarice, the new Number 47, who acts as her caretaker. In return, Miata is extremely protective of Clarice. During Europa's attack on Rabona, Miata awakens into a feathered serpent-like creature, with Clarice and Galatea linking their energy with hers so that she does not completely lose control. After Miata kills Europa, Clarice manages to reverse Miata's transformation but dies shortly after, and before she dies, she erases Miata's memories of her. Miata remembers her real mother and cries in Galatea's arms.

The picture shows an infected bloodshot eye. Miata's nickname is 'Blood Eye' because of her excellent sensor abilities and enhanced senses. She has a sixth sense that enables her to track other Claymores and determine their strength without even needing to sense their youki; she can also conceal her abilities from other Claymores with similar powers. She can also use this sixth sense to search out other Claymores and guide them to her.
10. Jean

Jean is a Number 9 Claymore who is captured by Riful and Dauf, two Abyssal Ones, who try to force her and her team mate Katea into awakening. Katea awakens and Dauf kills her for being weak, but Jean refuses to awaken because she wants to die as a human. When Clare finds her, Jean has awakened into a butterfly-like creature, but still has her mind intact and begs Clare to kill her. However, Clare synchronises her energy with Jean's and reverses her awakening. Jean feels indebted to Clare and follows her around, despite being ranked much higher than Clare. Because Jean has awakened in the past, she is sent on the ill-fated Northern Campaign and is made one of the squad leaders.

When Rigaldo targets the squad leaders, Jean survives his attack, but is severely injured. Clare awakens and eventually kills Rigaldo, but is close to completely awakening and has multiple blades coming out of her body. She begs Helen to kill her before it is too late, but Jean intervenes. She is impaled by Clare's blades and uses the last of her energy to help Clare return to normal. Clare is deeply upset by Jean's death, feeling that she is unworthy of being saved.

The picture is of a drill, and Jean's nickname is 'Jean of the Drill Sword'. By twisting her arm multiple times and then releasing it, she can essentially turn her sword into a drill and bore holes in her opponents; however, it takes time to prepare, so she is at risk of being attacked while she twists her arm. She first showcases the technique in the Northern Campaign arc. After the timeskip, Helen - who can stretch her limbs like rubber - has taught herself Jean's Drill Sword technique.
